  1. As a newcomer, I'm puzzled why someone would want to rent a specific system just because it's more costly.
  2. When I ordered 4 rolls last Saturday, it was $10 for shipping. Anticipating an equivalent increase in 16mm prices so thinking of grabbing some of that as well. Already limited space in the freezer though.
  3. If you are thinking of buying some in the near future, this might be the time to stock up :)
  4. I just went to http://store.kodak.com/store/kodak/en_US/DisplayCategoryListPage/ThemeID.4792758000/categoryID.70237500 and ordered some at $25.96 and received an order confirmation already. Is there some benefit from ordering as a Direct Customer? kodak order.tiff
  5. https://kodakcoin.com info on the site in 24 hours or you can google around for the news
  6. This site is an amazing resource for myself (newbie filmmaker) and I'm looking for something of similar quality for a writer friend. Screenwriting focus would be nice but doesn't have to be that focused. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tom
  7. considering that http://www.edinburghshortfilmfestival.com is a festival for short films, likely never :)
  8. Adam - I noticed in the Vimeo comments of your graded version that you chased the film look with your T4i and came quite close. I'd welcome any tips/settings that you might offer in that regard that I might apply to my T3i. Thanks.
  9. Will do. I was aware of another film on the subject but made a point of not watching it as I couldn't imagine watching Woody Harrelson in the role without hearing the theme from Cheers over top of it.
  10. This discussion led me to look up info on Badlands as that's one of the many gaps in my cinema knowledge. I had to smile & put it on my "see ASAP" list because of the topic. I read "Inspired by real-life killers Charles Starkweather and Caril-Ann Fugate..." and my jaw dropped. I'm basically a life resident of Lincoln, NE and vividly recall these events happening during my childhood including his execution. It's a major, dark part of local lore. My son went to find (and did) Charles's grave last halloween. My daily commute takes me past a building where I believe one of the killings took place.
  11. Thanks for the tips. As I have in excess of half a dozen of the Series E 50mm lenses, I bailed on my first one as soon after getting one screw loose but could see I was damaging the head of another one. I had tried the heat as well but think I may have been too eager & not let it heat enough. I didn't realize the acetone worked that quickly but wanted to be on the safe side & give it plenty of time to work so & didn't end up with multiple lenses with messed up screw heads. I think I'll be better off pursuing "real" 16mm lenses for my Bolex but may declick a couple more of the Series E for adapted use on my Canon DSLR.
  12. Cool! So I have a ten dollar curiosity to put in the closet with the rest of them :) I will have to figure out a way to take some footage thru to first just as a challenge. Thanks.
  13. Mount end looks odd to me. Missing something? Special purpose? What does the Hi-Fi indicate? Don't have it in my hands yet but should before end of the year.
  14. Thanks. Acetone worked... on my second lens :) I managed to damage the head on one of the 3 screws on the first lens. As I've got several of these lenses, I grabbed another and did a bit of acetone on each screw twice a day for 4 days before applying a screwdriver. All 3 broke free without much of a fuss.
  15. Thanks. Will give that a shot this evening. Actually, I was going to give it a shot this evening anyway but it's nice to know that I'm going in the proper direction rather than just removing screws because they happen to be exposed.
  16. I recently acquired something on eBay and this lens came with it as an extra. It seems like a decent lens for something that was essentially free but the aperture ring is tight. Glass looks real good and focus is smooth but what's best thing to do about the aperture tightness? It actually rotates fully and seems to have loosened up a tiny bit with repeated rotations but I think it's gonna take some other action to make it really useable. I hesitate to just drop a bit of oil in there. I have some acetone and maybe a touch of that will loosen up some dried grease? Either way, I think I risk getting something deeper into the lens where I don't want it to go. I'm not seeing an easy way to remove the ring but the aperture stop is a screw. Maybe I remove that and the aperture ring will rotate off allowing me to get at the threads? Any input appreciated. Thanks, Tom
  17. That actually would be a good thing as I'm going for subdued & dreamlike.
  18. Pretty sure I've got a handle on this but it never hurts to double check. Am shooting with a 16mm Bolex and am considering shooting at 18 fps rather than 24 just to make a 100' roll last longer. It will be telecined & edited in Resolve so I just pay attention to bring it in at 18. Sound will be recorded externally with tracks (dialog, score, foley) laid over top individually. There won't be any rapid action or real quick dialog so the difference in frame rate shouldn't be noticeable in the end. Do I have that correct? This will also expose the frame a bit longer so & should be able to get more depth of field. This (8 minute short) will be shot outdoors in full sun or partial shade (park setting) with D50. I was planning on over exposing a bit (maybe set camera & light meter at 40) but think it won't be desirable at 18. I think that the deciding factor on that may be what stops look best thru the lenses I'll be using (Nikon Series E 35, 50, 100, and 75-150 zoom) and set ASA accordingly with desired depth of field in mind. Any input appreciated. Thanks, Tom
  19. I'm wanting to declick some Nikon Series E lenses for use on my Bolex EL and the process looks pretty straight forward. All except removing those 3 screws at the back to get to what I need to get to. What's the best way to get them loose? I suspect there was some glue used during assembly but would a drop of something loosen them (and risk getting some where I don't want it) or would I be better off using a soldering iron to apply heat directly to the screw (and risk some damage to plastic parts)? Any other tips? Thanks, Tom
  20. Duh... I just took one of the screws out so I can use that to find out what thread they are.
  21. I'm wanting to build a focus puller for my Bolex EL and Nikon series E lenses. A step in that direction would be support rods like used for the matte box. Anyone know the thread size of the rods where they screw into the EL? Or have a set of rods to sell? Or even the whole matte box assembly? Thanks, Tom
  22. Also looking forward to seeing some footage as I'm using Nikon series E lenses on a Bolex EL. With my first short, I had an actual editor and I sat with him as he did some rough edits with Resolve. I had never edited and was totally unfamiliar with Resolve other than that bit of watching him. Then he was too busy to do any additional editing (welcome to the world of no budget indie filmmaking) so I downloaded Resolve and just jumped in. It turned out to be so easy & enjoyable that I've taken a real liking to editing. Between using the manual & online resources, it isn't difficult to quickly pick up the basics & expand with your specific needs. Enjoy the process!
  23. This doesn't appear to be an issue of them being sold out. Up until about 3 weeks ago, you could see all of the S8, 16, & 35 mm offerings but some would indicate availability for order & some would not but that would vary over time. Their online store has just been a server error for several weeks now. If it were an issue with their web pages, they'd have it fixed within 24 hours.
  24. I got the email as well but I'm really concerned for Kodak and wondering if that camera & "processing ecosystem" will ever be a reality. I've been unable to buy film off of their website for a couple of weeks now. I've got plenty of D50 16mm for a project but wanted to pick up some S8mm to try out a loaner Bauer and all I'm getting is server errors. Not a real temp. issue as their online store has been this way for several weeks now http://store.kodak.com/store/kodak/en_US/DisplayCategoryListPage/ThemeID.4792758000/categoryID.70237500
