  1. thanks a lot, morgan. of course you dare to say that, i definately consider it a compliment. and, i will of course post the entire film when it's finished. and you are all of course invited to the premiere (in vienna <_< ) ...
  2. ive made good experiences with cinejib's hotdog dolly. i think it's one of the cheapest jib arm - compatible ones...
  3. verdammt, niemand deutschsprachiger hier?
  4. and one more thing i forgot: what about rain when going the hdv route via mini dv tape? we'll have large drops of artificial "film rain", so a lot of movement and detail.... will this cause compressionartifacts, as i fear? sorry, two things i forgot to ask: what about tapes? are usual minidv tapes any different to the 5 times pricier hdv tapes? thanks again, alex
  5. hi. i've got some rather urgent questions that i need answered ansered as soon as possible, since we're shooting rather soon. what possibilities does one have to record the uncompressed 4:2:2 signal off the xl-h1's hdi output? is directly into a laptop possible? or is there a potable harddisk solution available? what portable hdcam or dvcpro decks are out there? thanks a bunch in advance, alex
  6. thanks a lot. if i remember correctly the premiere is announced to be on june 11th, so the final product should be completed on probably the 10th ... ;)
  7. Just a quick question.. Does anybody know what illumination (lux or fc) Miniflo's provide? No, sorry, two questions. Does a Miniflo kit also come with daylight and tungsten balanced tubes? thanks in advance, alex
  8. also to be noted: 16bl's and 35bl series I and II need a lens blimp in order to be sync sound compatible. 35 bl series III, IV, IVs and evolution don't do so.
  9. just as a warning, this fake-documentary might be totally boring for anyone not fond of the german language, since it's rather dialoge/monologe-driven. anyways, this was shot during the instant36 shortfilm-festival. i heard those kind festivals are nothing special in the u.s., but they arrived over the lake here just one year ago.... the subject one had to shoot a film to was "jemand schien Pause gedrückt zu haben", "somebody seemed to have pressed pause" in english.... we shot on a sony dsr-500 and did post on 3 computers parallel, one with premiere for editing, on with combustion for effects, and one with cubase and a midi-keyboard for music. youtube-video: (bad quality) downloadable *.wmv: (good quality, but 35.6mb) oh, and on a sidenote: i only slept 2 hours prior to this, because i just flew in from a shoot in hamburg. talking about unhealthy doses of coffee....
  10. We shot one day at this location in vienna, it's basically just a gravely jard where once was an appartment house. most likely until WWII. now there's a appartment house on the left, on the right, and at the back, all without windows of course, since those were once walls merging with the house missing now. and right in the middle there is a huge tree, as high as the houses surrounding him, probably 15-20meters. the guy who ownes this place is a retired lawyer who charged us 100euro just for coming and opening the chain blocking the entrace, altough he knew that we shot a noncommercial studentfilm with extremely tight budget. okay, we agreed to pay for one day, but couldnt finish, because the steadicam operator who would be so kind to operate for free for us had no time that day. but that greedy old bastard won't let us shot another half hour there on tuesday (that's all the time we'd need, we are just missing one shot) without charging 100euros again. so here i sit, with a steadicam operator at my hands the first time, a wireless bartech radio focus unit scrounged from another operator i was recently assisting for, but a production that hasnt 100euros left(/doesnt want to pay another 100 euros) and beeing pissed off to no end. goddamn, i'm angry. so, what were your bad experiences with locations? P.S: that shoot was the last day for the shortmovie i already posted the trailer for here ... oh and sorry for the probably annoying rant and my bad english.
  11. well, we shot with unblimped zeiss highspeed primes, so it was extremely noisy, but good to focus, since they allow follow focus being used, which is not an option with the stock blimp.
  12. It might have been a not so clever decision, but it still made you my hero.
  13. looked nice, but sound was horrible. what did you shoot on?
  14. great, now you killed the topic with your sarcasm. well done, my scotness. but i have to admit, it was funny.
  15. well, the (potetial) dof of the genesis should not be different to 35mm, since it's got a super35 sized chip.
  16. thanks a lot. i'll surely be announcing it here!
  17. hi well, what i thought watching many of the shots was that the lighting was rather flat, often coming from almost camera's angle. and that's why i liked the shot of the peiod piece with the woman cutting vegetables or whatever very much, it stood out of the others, because i found that one extremely nice backlit. but overall i found that your lighting was a bit too unrisky for my taste. .. but maybe that's just because of my philosophy to better wrap with 15% daringly failed shots and 85% superduper ones rather than 100% of ok, but nothing too special safety shots. especially on rather uncommercial student-films. i think the learning effect is bigger whit a little bit of daring. well.. that's about it. this was my honest opinion, not ment to hurt anyone. we're all still learning. all the best,
  18. the girl at the end of the reel is hot.
  19. 16bl equipped with rented zeiss highspeed primes and follow focus here... (shot this with it)
  20. no, never heard of it. but it says it's located in the lindengasse, just a few houses away from where a good friend of mine lives... i might stop by there before i'll visit him next time... jaja, die welt ist ein dorf..
  21. as far as i know from my photography background, i'd say you simply need a lens with a big enough "bildkreis" to cover your desired format without vignetting. unfortunately i don't know what "bildkreis" is called in english, but it's the size of the image projected by the lens on film plane level.
  22. irreversible was shot with an a-minima, except for some special effect shots that were done on 35
  23. yeah, the sugarcube thing was kieslovski tribute the director wanted to do. i haven't seen the movie tho. thanks.
