  1. Also just noticed you had the BMPCC mounted at a 90 degree angle—is the image sideways before it goes through the viewfinder? Had no idea.
  2. I looked into a using a pi for a bit, but the issue there is you have to add hdmi/sdi in some way, and you have to interface with the pay some way too, so then you end up with the same amount of bulk. Also the loose cabling freaks me out. I’m hoping to use the video tap for not just framing but also for focus, so I’m okay with some extra bulk if I can punch in on the image and keep a good amount of resolution. There are some tiny all in one 4K cameras that are probably of decent quality, but then your price starts to go up again, and then by that point the price isn’t too different from the fp (which just had its price lowered). It’s probably less of a permanent solution though, I agree. I also can limit the size of the lens if I just go for an apsc lens and change the fp to apsc mode—it stays at 4K in that mode. Something like this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1611819-REG Also wondering, does the speed of the lens that you’re using in the video tap matter?
  3. Oh the original BMPCC, wow that’s like 2.8x (owned one myself at one point). So the full frame equivalent would be like 70-100mm? Way more telephoto than I was expecting. There are definitely some macro lenses in that range though.
  4. Which BMPCC did you use, the 4K one with M4/3 mount? So that would mean I'd need around 50-70mm full frame (plus the Sigma fp doesn't lose any resolution at super-35). I could probably do that. Also thinking I could just use a couple close-up filters to fix the close focus issue.
  5. So maybe I should try a macro lens? I was able to get it working with my iPhone camera which has a minimum focusing distance of about 4”, so maybe I need to aim for that. Although I attached the iPhone to the viewfinder rather than mounting it directly to the camera body. What focal length did you settle on with the BMPCC?
  6. I’m soon going to attempt making a video tap out of a Sigma fp with my ACL. Very similar to y’all’s BMPCC solution, but I thought I’d go for an fp since it’s almost half the weight and a bit smaller. Plus it’s got the director’s viewfinder feature built in that could increase its functionality a bit. This might be a dumb question, but do I need a lens that focuses very close in order for it to work as a video tap?
  7. Yes there is a Zeiss Super Speed 50mm for super 16, only Mk II or III. Pretty rare though from my experience.
  8. Where are you getting the Optar Illuminas serviced? Thinking about buying one or two myself, but it seems most of them need to be CLAed these days. Also, are you aware of if their were different versions of the Illuminas? Hard to find info online (unlike the the differences between Zeiss Super Speed versions which is well documented).
  9. Any chance these are still available? Could be interested in the 12mm and/or 16mm.
  10. Thanks for the response—will keep these options in mind!
  11. Besides the zoom (see my other post), I’m also looking at buying a 16mm and/or a 12mm Superspeed. I’d much prefer MkII or MkIII, but will consider MkI. Already have MkII versions of 9.5mm and 25mm. Thanks!
  12. I'm looking for a super-16 zoom. It needs to go as wide as 12mm-ish on super-16 (while the telephoto side can be pretty much anything). In the $2500-$4500 range. PL mount would be much preferred. Let me know what you've got, and I'll take a look!
  13. Looks like Dufeal Baptiste might have one. Check out the thread they made.
  14. Seems like a decent price to me. Plus it’s not really good forum etiquette to be arguing over a price publicly, especially if you don’t intend to buy. Just move on if you think it’s too pricey.
  15. I’d very much like to hear your results too!
  16. Just want to know for sure while I’m planning a project. Can I switch lens (in daylight) while in the middle of a 16mm 400’ roll? My camera, an Eclair ACL, doesn’t have a multi-turret design. Does the shutter protect the rest of the roll (as long as the camera isn’t running)?
  17. Awesome. Good to hear. What type of shots did you use the 90mm for? That’s like a 300mm 35mm equivalent, right? Macro?
  18. This is a bit specific so I might not get a response, but has anyone ever adapted Leica m-mount lenses to a c-mount cine camera? There are adapters out there, and the flange distance appears to allow this to happen, but I’m still a little unsure as to if it’ll work perfectly. The fact that Leica lenses are built for cameras that don’t have a mirror, and I’m attempting to adapt it to a camera that has a mirror, seems backwards. Usually you can’t adapt mirrorless/rangefinder lenses to SLR lenses (while maintaining infinity focus). Additionally, I know m-mount lenses that are wider than 50mm perform poorly on mirrorless cameras like a Sony Alpha, but I think that’s a digital-only problem. For context, I have an Eclair ACL for which I have two Zeiss Superspeeds. I’m going to be purchasing a Leica 50mm soon for photography work (most likely the Summilux ASPH), and I would really like to use it on the 16mm cam as essentially a telephoto, close-up lens.
  19. Wow these are some interesting options. I was just strapping an iPhone to my camera haha. Will need to try these out once I’ve got time and a little expendable cash.
  20. I think the S16 conversion might have to do with it, or the filter holder is just busted. The gels are probably the best option if I want to do something dramatic, like tint the whole image dark green, then I don’t have to go out and get such a specific glass filter. On the other hand, I use NDs so often; better to have a reliable set.
  21. The main issue was when I did tests with the gel holder, every time I slid the holder out, the gel had been scratched all over. So I had no way of knowing if the gel was clear and fine once it was slid in, plus I’d have to replace the gel every time I change it out. Definitely too impractical.
