  1. Thanks for the replies guys. I sat down with the EP and pretty much talked her out of purchasing the equipment for many of the reasons Mike listed. I prefer to hire an owner/operator intimately familiar with his own gear. Now to figure out the format and the camera. So many choices these days...
  2. Thanks for the replies. I should have mentioned that the producers are looking to purchase the equipment. I'll also need to include the remote head in the estimate. Can anyone suggest a ballpark figure? Thx
  3. I have to budget a low budg news/talk show. Since it's going to run weekly for 26 weeks the producers asked me to price out a jib for them. I need something that's 18 feet long with a remote head and includes controls (focus, zoom, iris). Thanks.
  4. Beautiful, Francisco. Really excellent work.
  5. I experienced the same problem with mine a few yars back. I used one of those flexible rubber bottle cap openers to get it to turn.
  6. I was just hanging a flag over "The Black Kids" in a studio today and used that appendage to run a safety wire through.
  7. I don't think any discussion on Dreams and Film can be complete without mentioning Fellini's "8 1/2" and the works of Carl Jung. Look into "Man and His Symbols".
  8. Great stuff, Francisco. I've made some updates: http://www.flickr.com/photos/billtotolo/
  9. Nice job casting the role. Good lighting.
  10. David, Those stills look amazing. How is the resolution holding up on the wide shots?
  11. This thread must have planted a seed in my head. I went out and bought my 1st DSLR this weekend. I must say, I'm loving it!
  12. Great work, Adam. It was the combination of all the right touches that added up to a really nice piece. The SFX1 was a nice addition. How much seperation do you think you had between the subject and the b/g when you did the MCU's and the CU's?
  13. I shot a fun bit for G4 TV at the Fox in Westwood last night. Interviews like the 1st person in line to see the movie, the last person, etc. Turns out the 1st person in line was a producer for "Hitman". Anyway look for it tonight and/or tomorrow on "Attack of the Show".
  14. That was extremely fascinating and enlightening, Joe. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm considering the HPX3000 for a gig next month and this answered a lot of questions and allowed me to anticipate issues I'd like to address in prep.
  15. Well the 2 1/4"x 5 1/2" trailer looked good on my monitor! (Although a bit contrasty).
  16. I wouldn't deal with the mirrors, I'd have art dept bring in pipe and drape. Dress the studio as if the mirrors were never there. Then I'd kill the overhead lighting and replace it with my own design. Some practicals to key off of, etc. Set design may or may not consist of large color coordinated pillows (matched to whatever drape is brought in), candles, rice paper lanterns, etc. For drape and set design I'd keep it warm and intimate and slightly feminine. Crimson and gold come to mind, maybe a bit of brown and green. The floor looks nice but because it's wood it may have weak joints and creak. If so bring sections of carpet. If it's tight you might want some dance card on the ground just to protect it. Because you have parallel walls and hard surfaces be prepared to deal with echo in there. Perhaps hang some 4 x floppies at 45 degree angles to deflect/absorb sound waves.
  17. Any opinions on the daylight globes?
  18. This is exactly what the set ups on the web series I've been shooting look like.......
