Hello, I see for some vintage lenses you can easily see online what movies were made in the era the lenses were made, like the Bausch and Lomb super baltars have the Godfather parts 1 and 2, the Cooke speed panchro have Casablanca and The Sound of Music, the Canon k35s have Aliens and Barry Lyndon, so on and so forth. But one I don't really see having older movies shot with them are the kowa prominar anamorphic lenses, like whenever someone asks about what movies were shot on them, you always here modern movies like Moonlight, A Star is Born, First Man, No Sudden Move, etc.... But never movies that were shot in the time period the lenses were made, so if anyone could give me examples of that, that would be great. -
Hi all, Been a long time lurker but finally registered an account. My recently acquired SR2 is finally back from servicing with Andree Martin/AM Camera. Now that I have the camera back, I'm finalizing my setup. I'm currently struggling with choosing a modern matte box that will work with my setup. My primary lens (which came with the kit) is a vintage Zeiss Vario Sonnar 10-100 f1.8 t2 zoom lens. I think it is a mark 1, but not sure. I'm also not sure if the lens diameter is 80 or 87mm. It is a telescoping lens, so the lens changes sizes when adjusting the focus. From my understanding, a rubber bellows is needed on the rear of matte box to "move" with the lens as focus changes to prevent unwanted light leaks and reflections. The kit came with a Arri 4x4 studio 15mm matte box. However, this seems way too big for my needs. I'm looking for a modern, lightweight matte box solution (think SmallRig/Tilta/Wooden) that can work with the telescoping Zoom and attach to 15mm LWS rods. I spoke with DuAll Camera and they offered a Cinetech 3 stage 4x5 matte that comes with rear rubber bellows. However, they said it's a little bigger than the studio matte box that came with my kit. I want something as small as possible and lightweight so it can fit in my main Pelican case, as well as not make my setup huge and heavy. I've attached a photo of my lens and two bellows/donuts that came with the kit. Can I use any of the following matte boxes with the bellows I have to ensure focus adjustments/telescoping don't mess with anything? Du All also said to only use rod supported boxes, as clip ons will make focus stiff. Option 1 - Tilta t04 4x4 lightweight mattebox Option 2 - Tilta mbt12 matte box Option 3 - Wooden Camera UMB-1 mattebox Option 3 - SmallRig Star trail lightweight matte box I would look on the used market for deals on these. I recently purchased a Kern Switar 10mm f1.4 lens, which appears to be in good condition, for use on my Bolex EBM with a c mount adapter. However, when mounting this lens I encountered a strange problem where it would only focus at extremely close distances and leaves the rest out of focus. Seems like this lens is not in such great shape after all but wondering if anyone knows a fix? Thanks for any help! -
For Sale: JSC Optika 25-80mm Vario Optar T3.3 Zoom (PL mount) Asking $4,500 USD. This is a very compact and *very* lightweight cinema 35mm/APS-C format zoom lens (less than 2.25 lbs!) with a great 25-80mm range and a constant T3.3. The Du-All Camera website says that theirs is adaptable to EF mount, so it's possible this one is too (though I can make no guarantees). The serial number implies a production year of 1994, but I'd say the image it creates could fairly be described as a "vintage" look, including how it flares. Focus and iris are smooth. Zoom feels a little uneven at the wide end and has a little play at the telephoto end. There's some light oil on the iris blades visible, and there are coating scratches visible on both front and rear elements, and some spots visible in the picture on some internal elements (maybe oil? see pics) but I couldn't get any of those to affect the image. The lens has bright markings for feet and inches (Imperial). A word of caution that the front *does* rotate and telescope when pulling focus (so it's not exactly matte box friendly), but there's an adapter on the front of the lens to use any round Series 9 filters you might want. I think a lot of people might embrace the lens flares from a vintage lens like this, so the lack of a matte box (and that extra weight savings) might be preferred anyway. You could also talk with Ben at Arma Cine to see if he can make an Orbital system for this lens, which is what I've seen Old Fast Glass has done for a few of their vintage zooms that have rotating fronts. There are so few vintage cinema zooms (for example, to compliment a shoot using vintage primes) that are as compact and lightweight as this one, especially with such a great range. All of the un-edited sample images I took (with a Fujifilm X-H2S) were wide open and at close focus, except the last two (or where noted). I'm potentially open to a trade/partial trade for a Cooke Speed Panchro 18mm and/or 25mm (Series III only) in very good condition, either not rehoused or TLS-rehoused. I'm not interested in any other trades at this time. I always prefer an in-person NYC sale where the buyer can see or try out the lens on their camera. I also have friends in Los Angeles who can help facilitate an in-person sale, if you're LA-based. And if you're somewhere else, I'm also open to working with a broker like Lori Carson or Matt Livingston, or a lens technician/third party service company, if you cover the shipping and associated costs involved. Asking $6,000 USD.I bought this lens a few years ago and intended to rehouse it with GL Optics (they're up to Mk V now and the mechanics feel really solid to me), but plans have changed. I personally love the look Lomo Super Speeds create, although I haven't shot anything with this particular lens. Here's some great sample/test footage showing how beautiful the Lomo Super Speeds are (this footage was not shot with this specific/serial number 75mm) https://youtu.be/IZZzro92hgoLens glass is in very good/excellent condition.The housing is a bit odd, but that shouldn't matter if you're just getting it rehoused. As you can see in the pictures, it has hand-scratched/engraved markings on the front, but these do match the lens cell inside as confirmed by an evaluation at Indie Optics in January of 2022. It's currently marked in Meters (not Imperial/feet and inches) and both iris and focus barrels feel smooth enough. The iris is 12-bladed and so stays circular throughout the range - it does not create a ninja-star or sawblade shape at any stop, as I've seen with some Lomo Super Speeds, which is a good thing for my personal tastes. While the front telescopes a little bit when you pull focus, the front does not rotate from pulling focus. It focuses in "reverse" like Nikon lenses. And the front does rotate when you adjust the iris. There are no focus or iris gears. Again, I'd recommend rehousing to any potential buyer.I'd prefer an in-person NYC sale. I can also ship within the U.S. (2nd preference) or abroad (3rd preference) if you pay the PayPal fees and shipping with insurance. I own one of these beautiful lenses along with a CSP 32mm as well, but mechanically they are different - I use it fine for sure on my GEMINI in manual focus, and I use it wide open at 1.7, which understandably make the image soft. However, I just wanted to make sure that the backfocus on my GEMINI isn't off and contributing to the softness, but for the life of me I've never figured out where the focus marker is on the lens. The aperture marker is evident enough, just not the focus marker. This is not my lens per se, but it is the same and I am linking the video for reference. -

This once in a blue moon piece of glass from the 1970s is used with signs of ware external ware, though in perfect working condition with no loss of optical quality. It is made with a BNCR mount, which may be converted to match any other full frame lens mount which supports BNCR flange depth (IE a PL mount for example). This is a vintage anamorphic cinema zoom lens from the 1970s which comes with its original casing. Todd-AO’s are known for their incomparable violet anamorphic flares matched with a sharp yet distinct image. This lens is in excellent optical condition: it's rare to find such a clean 25mm Series III lens with high serial number starting with a 7, making it among the last made, since you won't find any Panchro serial numbers starting with an 8. I'd say this is an excellent candidate for rehousing (ex. TLS). While it has a *tiny* amount of contamination (barely visible), that would be cleaned out during a rehousing. There's only the lightest/smallest cleaning marks (light scratches in the coatings) in the front/rear elements. No haze, no fungus, no yellowing, no oil on the iris blades, no scratches or cracks or pits that I can see. Mechanically, focus and iris are reasonably smooth, but I would always recommend rehousing. I shot a project on a set of freshly serviced (but unrehoused) CSP lenses years ago and they all exhibited some image shift when pulling focus - and I'd guess this lens would be the same. I ended up planning all my shots without focus pulls. This lens is Arri Standard Mount. TLS makes a very nice Arri Standard to PL adapter (Duclos Lenses sell it in the US). But as I said, I always recommend rehousing. In my experience, the PL mount adapters only make the focus movement less smooth, and they sometimes collide with internal baffles on cameras, like Alexas. This lens has been kept in a lens dry box (electronic humidity controlled) since I bought it in mid-2019, and I never got to actually use it besides a quick test. The previous owner clearly had it serviced with fresh yellow paint and focus gear added, but I don't know what year that was, and I noticed there's a bit of a gap where the gear screws together (it may just needs tightening). Front and rear lens caps included. I'd prefer an in-person NYC sale. I was wondering about the mount of this lens. I'm trying to adapt to micro 4/3. It looks like Arri standard, but it didn't mount to my Arri standard adapter. Does anyone know which mount this is? Thank you
