Edith blazek Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 So to my dismay, no one has 4 perf movements for the arricam lt. So besides the 2019 film Luce, what are some projects that use 2x anamorphic lenses on 3 perf 35mm film?
Chris Burke Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 if you are stuck with 3 perf, could you use 1.5x anamorphics? 1
Robin Phillips Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 are you only looking at local rental houses? I'd expect panavision to have 4 perf movements. some boutique rental houses in LA like standard camera or old fast glass should have 4 perf. I'd think arri rental would too. if its an owned camera, Andree at AM Camera might be able to help hunt something down.

To purchase I mean (there are now, at the time there weren't, not even from Andree), and I'm in Baltimore, not LA Edited July 9, 2024 by Edith blazek
Edith blazek Posted July 11, 2024 Author Posted July 11, 2024 Alright, ignoring whether one should or shouldn't shoot 2x with 3 perf, besides the movie I mentioned Luce (shot by Larkin Seiple), what are some projects that you know of either shot by someone else or you have shot yourself that utilized 2x anamorphic lenses with 3 perf 35mm film?
Edith blazek Posted December 3, 2024 Author Posted December 3, 2024 Okay I'm pretty sure someone else in the history of cinema has thought of using 2x anamorphic on 3 perf film before or at least after larkin seiple, can someone point to that?
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted December 3, 2024 Premium Member Posted December 3, 2024 There have been some TV shows that have shot 2X anamorphic on a digital camera for 16:9 HD. "Fear of the Walking Dead" comes to mind. Not the same thing I know. I think you can imagine the issue of 2X on 3-perf, that it's just a smaller negative area compared to 4-perf 35mm anamorphic so you'd expect a bit more grain and softness, and a bit more depth of field because you'd be using slightly shorter focal lengths. 2
Jefta Varwijk Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Perhaps you chop off 1/4th off a 4perf 2x anamorphic film and see if you like it? Or is that not what you mean?
Craig Boydston Posted April 29 Posted April 29 I haven't had the opportunity to shoot 3 perf anamorphic, but I'm sure it'll look fantastic and all things considered you'll only be cropping in a little bit. You'll really enjoy the extra run time. I am curious what you'll do for your ground glass.
