Punch Drunk Love

Recommended Posts

Does the blue lens flaring in this film come strictly from anamorphic lenses, or is there some sort of filtering going on here, too.

Many scenes exhibit the tell-tale anamorphic blue horizontal streaks, but there seems to be more going on that just that. Everything seems to have a soft blue aura around it.

Anyone know what this was shot on/with?

It was almost all shot on Fuji F-125T stock using Panavision anamorphic lenses. I don't think there was any unusual filtration, although I seem to recall reading that the Fuji film was shot uncorrected in daylight. Primo anamorphic lenses in particular seem to get a very strong blue tint to the flaring.

I did just watch it on F/X, yes. It looked terrible compared to my memory of repeated theatre viewings, and even compared to DVD - but it still had that characteristic blueness to it that I wondered about.

In addition to the anamorphic lenses, maybe might they have enhanced the blues as well? This may explain why Sandler's blue suit is just so electric!
