Tripod for NPR

I've been looking at several low-to-mid priced tripod systems for my NPR...

 

-Cartoni F100 head and sticks

-Miller DS25 head and sticks

 

I wondered if people had used either of the above heads/sticks in combination with

the NPR and have any comments or suggests, or might recommend another system

at a similar price point?

Seriously, you'll never go wrong getting a head that's MORE robust than what you really need. But if you get a head (or sticks) that are barely up to the task, there will be plenty of shots or setups where you'll regret it.

 

For general 16mm and/or SD video, I like the O'connor 1030 head. For heavier 16mm, HD or 35mm I like the 2575 head.

 

I recently evaluated the O'connor 25L sticks and they're pretty impressive and lightweight. Very high high, and very low low. I'm always cautious about twisting, flexing and bouncing with carbon fiber legs, but these hold up well enough with camera weight in 25lb. range (i.e. with the 1030 head). If you're considering the 2575 head you'll need to step up to more sturdy legs though.

Yes, I've had the 50D recommended to me by several folks.

 

As for the 1030, I don't have $3360 to spend on the head alone. I hear what you're saying but

I'm just not in the market for something at that price point.

 

I'm in the sub-$1K market. Used, and old or the new low-end Cartoni systems are what I've

been considering.

You should be able to get a used Ronford F4 for around that price. Very robust and good for 16mm film cameras (less so for long video cameras that need counterbalancing).
