Gary Lemson
I came across a pressure plate device for S8 carts advertised in Small Format magazine. It's called the "Frame Master". Anyone tried this? Edited October 25, 2006 by Gary Lemson
Olex Kalynychenko
I came across a pressure plate device for S8 carts advertised in Small Format magazine. It's called the "Frame Master". Anyone tried this? The better idea, if you will use the russian style Super 8 reloadable film cartridges with pressure plate inside.

John Adolfi
I have tired the metal pressure plate. It works and it steadies the picture about 20-50%. But I have never seen this Russian reloadable cartridge. Anyone have any experience with it? I'd love to see some close-ups of the gate area. Is it worth the hassle? Where do we buy 100-400 loads, Europe?
Premium Member Alessandro Machi Posted October 26, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted October 26, 2006 i have done an engine search and found two pictures of super 8 plates if this helps? Hey, it's Santo Reincarnated! The occasional rash of spam topics that seemed to coincide with your leaving the Cinematography forums, was that just a coincidence? Gary Lemson
It works and it steadies the picture about 20-50%. Could you clarify this? What would it take to improve the device? Is it too thin? Is it not stationary?
John Adolfi
What I was getting at was to get a closer look at the "gate" in the Russian cartridge. Edited October 26, 2006 by John Adolfi

Richardson Leao
Has anyone used this?? What reloadable film is available? How much are these? I have a few and they work very well. I dunno however where to get s8 film on core, what I am doing, I use foma DS8 (www.jandcphoto.com) and split it before loading the cartridge. Doing this, you have 2x 10m cartridges for US8.99$. By the way, you can also get a metal pressure plate to add in kodak (or other) cartridges from: http://www.german.film-super8.de/
André Bacher
Hello! The Frame Master is invented and built by GK-Film GmbH (Mr. Gottfried Klose). You can find all information about this Pressure Plate for Super-8 on his website in english: http://www.englisch.film-super8.de/ Here you can see a demo video which shows the result by using thie Frame Master: http://www.englisch.film-super8.de/3_andru.../demovideo.html The old super-8 problem is the cheap plastic pressure plate inside the cartridge which causes bad picture steadiness and sometimes out of focus pictures. If you put the Frame Master in the cartridge, you get a very steady image, much better than without it! You can change it very quick from one cartridge to another. On the GK-Film website you can find an english Frame Master manual pdf-file: http://www.englisch.film-super8.de/3_andru...atte/manual.pdf You can buy it on GK-Film website for 128 Euro. The same original Frame Master is sold by ANDEC Filmtechnik: http://www.andecfilm.de/en/e_s8_pressureplate.htm Price here is 120 Euro inclusive shipping to the US Film stock from 50f to 1000f (depends on which stock) are availible here: Wittner Cinetec Germany: http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de/katalog/...mm/s8_meter.php -Kodachrome K40 (called: Wittner Chrome 40T) -Fuji Velvia 50 Pro (called: Wittner Chrome V50D) -Fujichrome 64T -Fuji F-500T -Fuji F-250D -Orwo UN 54 (b&w) Kahl-Film germany: http://www.kahlfilm.de/ - 5 different black & white stocks Reloadable cartridges: Wittner Cinetec Germany http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de/katalog/...mm/s8_meter.php (bottom of page) - Plastic cartridge with plastic pressure plate, you can use this type with the Frame Master! Olex Kalynychenko (Ukraine ?) - Plastic cartridge with metal pressure plate (you can see it on the pictures linked 4 postings above by Mr. Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta) Attention: you cannot use this typ of cartridge with the Frame Master! I think this piece of metal is worth the money and now, Super-8 is really near the stable pictures of Double-Super 8! greetings, André Edited October 27, 2006 by Andre Bacher
John Adolfi
At 239 Euros plus shipping for 1000 ft. of film it comes to about $15 per 50' roll excluding the 1000 foot roll shipping. Then load your own cartridge with the metal plate. Or buy 50' cart. of film direct from Kodak and use you own reuseable plate. Seems like the metal plate in Kodaks cart. is the better deal all around. Am I missing something? Edited October 27, 2006 by John Adolfi

The only way to use this emulsion in the super8 format is to shoot in DS8 or use offers like the one from Wittner. But you can calculate it against the new Ektachrome 64T: If you buy 1000ft in 50ft cartridges (Wittner price), you have to pay US$ 9,34 against US$ 9 for 50ft K40 (Witter price, buying 1000ft and reloud it yourself). If the Ektachrome emulsion is ok for you, take it and dont stress yourself with loading 20 cartridges in the dark room  You can use the FrameMaster with any cartridge (as i know), but not with the russian one with another metal pressure-plate inside. greetings, André
Gary Lemson
Are there any cameras (Beaulieu, Leicina, Canon 1014, etc.) less susceptible to the inherent cartridge issue?
