Premium Member Frank Barrera Posted December 9, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted December 9, 2006 (WARNING: Shameless self promotion to follow.) Everyone should check out this month's American Cinematographer's Magazine's Short Takes section. (Casino Royale is on the cover.) I was interviewed for a short film that I shot that won the Silver Medal at this years Student Academy Award Ceremony. For those who do not have access to the magazine I will scan the article today and get a PDF up on my website ASAP. Thanks for all the support and don't worry I will be nice to everyone on my way up; because I know I will be seeing all the same people on my way down. f

Premium Member Frank Barrera Posted December 17, 2006 Author Premium Member Share Posted December 17, 2006 The shot of Tito & Gonzalo is wow!!! For some reason that shot reminds me of a Brazilian film I seen last year: Pixote: A Lei do Mais Fraco. Pixote is an unbelievably brutal film that we watched before we filmed our short. One of our central characters is also a street kid (as is the lead in Pixote). Perhaps not so subconciously some of that film's look seeped into ours. However, our film would never be classified as neo-realism as Pixote correctly has. Whereas Pixote went 100% for a documentary feel; we only went for a doc reference. Our film is very conventional compared to Pixote. Nevertheless, it is an honor for our little movie to be mentioned in the same sentence with such a master piece. thanks f
