cp 16 with oxidation

Hi

I work at a film co-op and we just got a CP 16mm camera given to us for free,by an old timer news camera man.

Anyways it looks like the camera has oxidation all over it,basically it looks like a moldy powder all over the camera.

I think the camera was in the guys basement for over 2 decades?

Anyways,I'm just wondering whats the best way to clean off that stuff?

And more importantly is it even worth the time and effort??

Im not sure if that stuff is also inside the camera motor,or moving parts

so just wondering if the camera should go in the trash,or if its worth cleaning up?

it came with a good lens, which seems to work great:)

That is disintegration of the alloy, intercrystalline corrosion. You cannot do a thing about it. There are several factors that can trigger it, sea salt is one of them, then rust from steel screws in the body, and more.

You could turn the knob on the central sprocket wheel to see if the camera turns over easily by hand. You should feel the movement resisting slightly but nothing rough or noisy. However, if you can't even open the side door to check I'd just dump it.

You can also remove the battery side cover using Allen keys to see if it's corroded inside.

Im thinking the camera might be usless:(

But the lens is still in great shape

Im not familiar with the mount of the lens?

Its an Angeniex zoom 10-150mm

Im wondering if this lens is compatible with another camera, maybe an eclair npr

but I dont know the type of mount the lens is?

Hi Daniel,

It must be CP mount. Only works on CP made cameras (CP-16R and GSMO)

Lens can be remounted to whatever you like.

This is a 16mm lens only and will not cover super-16 adequately.

In fact, it will even show vignetting in regular 16mm at wide angle and close focus.

Cheers,

Jean-Louis

How much would it cost to get the lens remounted to an eclair NPR?
