Mike Tay Posted March 1, 2015 Share Posted March 1, 2015 Can anyone think of any work possibilities in the film industry around camera/production which are regular, 9-5 kind of jobs. They are good alternatives/backup to the up and down world of freelance. My experience working at a film school has been very positive. Also been thinking of trying out universities media production units for on campus content. Can anyone think of other places that regularly employ people with film and video production skills? Premium Member Mark Kenfield Posted March 2, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted March 2, 2015 Long-form TV series, particularly things like network sitcoms that have a lot of episodes per season, is probably the closest you'll come to 9-5 in production. The support elements built up around the industry - rental houses, gear retailers, distributors, marketing companies are probably your next best bet for something related to production, but existing in a non-freelance form. Guillaume Cottin Posted March 5, 2015 Share Posted March 5, 2015 Just make sure you really know what it means to work in an office job before you commit to one on the long term. It's harder than it looks. You could try to work as an in-house cameraman for a TV station or as a prep technician at a rental house, at least you won't be sitting all day in an office. Guest Posted March 5, 2015 Share Posted March 5, 2015 If that's what you want, this business isn't for you. Even crew on series TV have a hard time proving to a bank they qualify for a mortgage. The bank still views them as freelancers with no job security. If you want to shoot "9-5" then work at a TV station and shoot news.
