Gregg MacPherson
For mags that you actually think need a tape seal, not just for show, what tape are you using? Years ago Scotch made a black paper photographic masking tape that had black gum, was very opaque, easy to use, strong, formable and came off cleanly even years later. Looking now at the currently available Scotch, #235 I'm told is the same. I'll find out maybe tomorrow. Suretape CP743, I put some on the front of my maglite and it's not so opaque. Compared to the Scotch, a poor seal for a trickey mag. Same high price tho.
Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted April 30, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted April 30, 2015 Just normal 1" camera tape (gaff) here. If that doesn't do it, then I wouldn't use the mag.
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted April 30, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted April 30, 2015 What mag needs tape to be lightproof?
Mark Dunn
Agreed, Our film tutor taught us just to wrap the can tape around the mag so we knew what was in it, because a thin strip of white tape wasn't going to keep the light out of a faulty mag. rob spence
Most older cameras...arri 2C, eclairs and aatons were/are taped as a belt and braces approach to light leaks.

A thin strip of opaque black tape should be effective.
Gregg MacPherson
Got some Scotch #235. Looks the same as the old stuff. Opacity is v good. Hopefully the longevity and clean release of the gum is as good.
