Ben Brahem Ziryab
Hi, Does anyone here know someone with a 65mm camera in the L.A/South Cal area? I tried Panavision Woodland Hills, but their cameras are out on long term jobs. Thanks! Ben
Premium Member Tyler Purcell Posted September 22, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted September 22, 2015 The only cameras on the west coast are the Panavision ones. Arri rental on the east coast has the 765. There are also a few fries 65mm cameras out there, but nothing for sound. The only sound cameras are the 765 and Panavision. Arri is going to stop renting them as well, so you may wanna call and plead with them.
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted September 22, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted September 22, 2015 There's always VistaVision if you want. I am sure there are a few of those laying around somewhere-- in various states of "working." Might be a bit easier on a post workflow too, at least in terms of development.
Premium Member Tyler Purcell Posted September 22, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted September 22, 2015 Beaumont vistavision cameras can't be used for sound either, they're way to noisy. You've gotta get the DB range into the 40's or less, for sync sound to be useful. Most sync sound cameras produce around 20db. Plus, vistavision workflow doesn't really exist anymore. 65mm in contrast, is pretty regular business at FotoKem and they've got a great workflow and competitive pricing that makes sense.
Ben Brahem Ziryab
Thanks. It's an MOS shoot. Who rents the 765 in LA?
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted September 22, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted September 22, 2015 I'm sure Clairmont or Otto Nemenz could get one from ARRI... (OK, not 100% sure, but it wouldn't hurt to ask...)
Kenny N Suleimanagich
Give Gus at ARRI New York a call. Very helpful and easy to work with folks over there. I’m sure they could arrange something. Premium Member Tyler Purcell Posted September 22, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted September 22, 2015 If all you need is MOS camera, just call up slow motion inc, they have at least one working Fries 5 perf 65mm camera. They have great movements and should work fine. Best of all, I don't think anyone knows they exist! :) http://www.slowmotioninc.com/#!rentals/c1alk
