Akos Baranya
I've been looking into getting some s16 primes for use with my BMPCC. The standard would be Zeiss superspeeds, but those are a bit expensive for me atm. There seems to be a big gap between the superspeeds and what seems to be a whole field of vintage c-mount glass that has a distinctive image. Does anybody have experience with the Cooke kinetal lenses? How do they compare in image quality to the zeiss lenses?I've gathered that the older ones with the arriflex mount need a special adapter because the whole barrel rotates when focusing. Jean-Louis Seguin
I am pretty sure that Kinetals under 50mm do not cover the super-16 frame.
Akos Baranya
There was an earlier thread here that had a number of people saying that they do cover s16 except for the 9mm one. Example footage on youtube is pretty rare though, the linked arri footage from that thread is long gone.
Arthur Benoit Lambrecht
I have the 12,5mm that cover S16 wihtout problem. The mount is Arri St, I use it with adapter to Aaton mount. No problem for focusing, but I can't use the distance report on the lens, that part doesn't move.
Freya Black
"Another word about lenses. I already mentioned how, in the early years, it was tricky to find good ones for Super 16. I tested quite a few, and found these quite acceptable: the Kinoptic 9mm, the Cooke Kinetal 12.5, 17.5, 37.5, 50 and 75mm." - Rune Ericson
