  1. Killed Monday by a Sting Ray barb to the heart while on a diving expedition on the great barrier reef. He sure was quite a character
  2. Im a sucker for James Horner's Braveheart score. Particularly "For The Love of a Princess" But how do you plan on obtaining copyright?
  3. looks great, what was the final budget for this film if you dont mind me asking?
  4. Koyaanisqatsi was in fact a big inspiration for my work back then. The work i showed was from a couple of different short video poems i made in class so its not a story in itself, but of course better editing could make more sense out of it. The shot of the face is done with just flicking a gelled gulliver on and off. The shot of lightning is superimposed over the shot of the face in premier and i just faded the lightning in and out.
  5. i was told by someone who did some hydraulics work on the set of the matrix that joel silver told him that the final budget for the film way exceeded what they claimed it was publicly. why they would do this or if it is even true is beyond me.
  6. thanx the bridge shots were a nightmare. Over 18 takes using about 8 rolls of 16mm and all but the shots u see were ruined due to a problem with the beaulieu camera i was using. The film would jump around in the gate for whatever reason so I had to end up using super 8. It was winter, i had to end up paying my mate to keep jumping. btw the timelapse was done just by recording in realtime and speeding up in post which i did coz the cameras didnt have a timelapse function. I went through two rolls of mini dv tape before i got that lightning. I shudder when i see how much the shots could have been improved with better thought to lighting, but that was then. btw im a sucker for snap zooms
  7. okay, so this is some of my footage from the film course i did at university. I was 18 at the time and never shot a thing at that stage and there is no real use of lighting setups, just available light. Shot on the small panasonic DS11 and sony PD150 mini DV formats. There are a couple of ungraded, DIY-telecini, reversal 16mm and super 8 shots which i used to get slow motion. The compression is terrible and makes a few of the shots jumpy for some reason so bear with it. Anyway, enough talking it down, enjoy and give me honest brutal feedback... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP_Zxhb6w9o
  8. Well i dont think they are in town yet and dont know any details apart from the email adress i was given, but I do know the project and have read the book so i think i will take your advice on writing a more personal letter, sounds like a good way to stand out i suppose and show my enthusiasm. Thankyou very much for your help.
  9. Im not sure if this is the right place to post this but, I was given the email adress of a producer of a large big budget production that will be comming to my area later this year and I'm planning on emailing them for work. Im a recent film graduate and have a small showreel of student work, and just want to get on set as a PA or an unpaid position. How do I go about it? My first instinct was to beg, but i know that would be stupid and unprofessional. So do I explain who I am, what I've done as a student and give a link to my showreel? Do I tell them that I would love to get onto a set and work as a PA or for free? What is the best way to go about it based on your experiences? Dajan.
  10. horrible. its worse for newbies like myself who are looking to buy equipment for the first time and now im terrified to buy on ebay. I wish i believed in karma.
  11. well you r in a better position than me. Im in perth and there is no industry here that i know of. I finished my course in 2003. I work 2 jobs and am saving for a short film to direct myself (ultimately i am more interested in directing than cinematography). Its a tough road. I hear Phillip Noyce is going to shoot a feature with heath Ledger near where I live this year, could be an opportunity to get on a real set. but how to...
  12. In Alien when the refinery module seperates from the Nostromo mothership there is a shot of it descending into the dark depths below. The romantic score just magnifies the beauty of that shot. Its definately my favourite. Also in Schindlers List there is a scene where a young woman is recounting to schindler the atrcities that accoured to her parents (i think) and he appears unmoved. He turns to face a window that overlooks the factory beneath. Through his reflection we see a fire in the distance but the framing puts the flame smack bang on his heart area. Its the first time that i started to think about composition as being an important factor in storytelling.
  13. how exactly do you determine if a listing is a scam other than low feedback scores? how can you be sure? So these people that fall for the scams lose their money and thats the end of it?? mad world
  14. whats the difference between a 1st and 2nd AC role/responsibilitiy wise? Is there anywhere a newbie can get a clear breakdown of all the roles on a set??
  15. well im a nobody but it seems some people have no grace when it comes to looking for work. Ive just started my fascination with film and when i call production companies looking for work i offer my self for free and tell them that i "make a killer coffee"! but who knows, if in ten years im still unemployed I'll probably become a bitter, twisted a-hole too! p.s......I make a killer coffee..............anyone??
