  1. Hello Tony, I think a flighthead and a russian-arm as a combination does not gonna help you. I would suggest to use a russian-arm-light-version for the rotation only and get an other remotehead like the ultihead from MrMoCo for the MoCo part of it. At the other hand: You will need a MoCo rotation, a Moco Jib, and a Moco Tilt (to compensate for the jib-movement). This seems more a Moco job to start from and then enter the grippery ;-). I would suggest to contact Mark Roberts for a customized rig. I am not done in getting my head around a decent solution... <_< I'll be back!!!! Good Luck, Onno
  2. Hello Tony, Does it really needs to be MotionControl? Or could you do with a repeatable movement as well? Maybe this could do the job aswell: Move 'n shoot Good Luck, Onno

  4. Hello All, I would drop the idea of heated track straightaway since it will surely melt the supporting snow or ice which will demand the need for continous power on the tracks or an icesaw for repostioning the tracks... :-) It seems to me a lot of hassle where a simple solution is given. I just imagine people warming their hands on the tracks and the fingers I will run over when tracking :-) Good luck, Onno
  5. Hello, PB swisstools is a manufacturer who does have them in their program: PB tools I have the impression that you are looking for the 138/6 Good luck, Onno

  7. Hello All, Last year the local government forced me to buy new trucks as well. I have made an objection that replacing my trucks would be a destruction of my company and will cut down my business, all accompanied with a statement of my accountant. So now they have given me a permit for driving my trucks for a year. I am sure there is a hardship available....? Good Luck. Onno

  9. Hello All, Before I start redesigning my TrussDolly I am wondering what the brands you are using or which are available from the rental houses? Is triangle a commonly used truss? or mostly square? Is 1ft, 1ft, 1ft a commonly used dimension? Do you carry them as a standard item in the griptrucks? Thanks for any reply, Onno
  10. Hello Marc, Don't go there, even a slight turning of an overloaded car wills surely make your rig hit the streets! Simply dont!!! Maybe an hostess-tray with an airballoon (from an air-suspended-truck-trailer) in between the camera and the rig can give you the handheld feeling? Test before shoot. An other option could be to have a kind of bunghy-mount: get an O and rig the camera inside the O using bunghy all the way around, from top till down, from left till right, from front to back and rig it to the hostess tray. Also worth a test. Most of all: try to get a skilled grip!!! Good luck, Onno
  11. Hello Dan, Besides my own-made turntable I have been very happy with the diasassembled pan-motor of a remotehead. It moves very smooth ( :-0)!!! good Luck, Onno
  12. Hello Jason, Building a "bridge" is a good option. An other solution could be is setting up a (long) jibarm with the base away from the moving parts of the floor. (So the base is at a non-bouncing part of the floor.) Good Luck, Onno
  13. Okay, is the price to high? Outdated? Not complete enough (can't think of a more complete package) Worrying on shipping cost? I am not desperately trying to sell, just curious. Onno
  14. Hello Matt, I can only recommend myself.. Haha. In Holland there is a 'strict' separation in grip and electric. The griprentals only facilitate dolly, crane, tracks, camerascaffold, camerarigs. The lightrental supply lights, stands, overheads, flags, sandbags etc. If you send me a equipmentlist I can do the research for you... Best regards, Onno Onno@solidgrip.nl
  15. Hello Wesley, I am the manufacturer of BarTrack, so I am biased in replying. :) When choosing track there is a balance in weight, price, durability, compact size, joint-quality and lots more. When choosing track for rent it is mostly a choice of what is available, compact and quality For purchase you need to consider the balance of all. Most people stick to brand they have bought previously. For owner/operator you can choose the brand which need to be handled with care, for rental you can make the calculations and buy the foolproof-steel-rough-football-player-brand which will last for ever with a low quality or go for the higher standards brands and demand for regularly exchange. 15 years ago I bought 50 ft of egripment-track (comparative with Matthews) and later on some more and some curves. 9 years ago I changed to BarTrack since they where local fabricated and of a much higher quality. Also the availability of different sizes of the curved track convinced me completely. Later on the former owner of BarTrack died and I continued his business. I manufacture my track at a higher standard out of aluminum. most of the tracks I bought 9 years ago are reaching their ends and I have never been polite for them! With regards to flex: If people sell their tracks as cranetrack as well, your good to go for a dollytrack! It all depends on the design of the tube. I know that the flex of a design with just a round tubing is tremendous. When they did some welding on a round tube the size and diameter of the tube will be distorted. An I-beam profile is very good when extruded and not welded, but might have a sideways-flex when used in a sideways-force like swinging a heavy-loaded crane sideways... Hopefully this shines a light on your post and answers some of your questions. Good luck, Onno
  16. BTW: shippingcost to LA is approx 2700 euro, excl. taxes but that won't be very much...

  19. In the long gone past I had some great success with a aluminum U-profile of 20mm * 20mm, filled with fine sand, slightly flooded with methylated spirit or more slightly with benzine. You will get no or blue-ish coloured flames. For Orange flames use salt instead of fine sand, for green flames add some sanded copper and copper wire to the sand. Please take care, and try it first at your garden or open area. make sure the fire is of before refilling!!!! Good Luck, take good care, Onno
  20. Hello Eugene, I used to work with a gaffer who used to carry a box of dry-coloured-hairspray. He used the blacks to dim the practicals or highlights, or used the red/blue to change the colours. It worked well (except for the smell). It was easy to wipe away when it was to much or not decently enough. Try and test. Good luck. Onno
  21. Hello Bennet, Since you did not mention the surface of your beach (stones or sand) I want to share you my experience with a shooting on a sand-beach with an upcoming tide. Some months ago I have had some rough and impressive experiences with tide coming up and a construction: We have build my TrussDollySystem on some rostrums to see the horizon and move to a bottle landing on the beach. The tide was this strong that one of the rostrums started floating, no matter the amount of weights on it, even the water was still 6 meters away. The upcoming tide will "undertake" or "dig out" the at first seem-to-be-solid underground... (good english???). Be aware... Some pics can be found here A making of can be found here. Good Luck, Onno
  22. Hello Ed, Last thought coming in: d) If your budget is tight: Get some local curtainrail (heavy duty like they also use for lorry-sails). Make it a double railing. It is easy to get it bended in the right radius. Rig a small platform to the runners. Suspend the camera by cabling in the right angle which is needed for your end framing. for dollying you pull the top plate by a rope or gobo-arm. Sure worth some testing. Good luck, Onno
  23. Hello Mike Sorry that I did not get back sooner but I was a little blown away by the comment of Ira.. Wallthicknes: It al depends of the payload and the amount of crossties. I use 4mm but then they are being used for cranes over 2000kg. If you choose for roundtube you could decide to screw a U-profile underneath to give it more strength both vertical as horizontal (do not weld since that will change the structure of the aluminum which will decrease your straightness (correct english??) Joints: This is the weakest (and most difficult) part of tracks. if you'd make them from aluminum or copper they will get sloppy very fast, even if you take very good care. If you can do it with stainlesssteel I really would recommend that. Glue them into your tubes by using a "filling-glue" like Loctite 603. Crossties and spanners: Do not overspan your spanners since they will slightly bend your crossties which will make your trackgauge a little smaller (every 1/10 mm counts).... Spanners made out of aluminum will get sloppy very fast. Carbosteel can do the job very well. Hope this helps, Good Luck, Onno Perdijk
  24. Hello Dan, Rig the camera in frame-box or similar. Get a steelwire from a (as high as possible) riggingpoint where you can hang the box in as a pendular. Attach a steelwire (as a full stop) from the box to the opposite wall preventing the box to hit the wall. Use some bunghycords along the safety-wire to slowdown your movement on impact and give the camera the direction of filming the (not) impact.... my 2 cents. Onno Perdijk
