  2. Well... I would like to get RID of: Panther Evolution, PantherIII, Doorwaydolly's, scateboardDolly's, Tracks, scaffolding towers, rostrums, 10ton griptruck, Phoenix crane, Foxy Crane, Ronford F7, weaver steadman, Panther Jib Arms and U banghy's, Tracking Beams, ButterFly's, Carmount side and hood, welding and casting machinery, Roll-over-mounts, crash-boxes, outriggers, .............. all these belongings do carry a lot of wheight, on my shoulders...... If you have nothing to own; you have nothing to lose..... It would be my wishlist to have nothing to own and do my job as it is meant to be and rent the equipment I need for the specific job! Any bidders? Onno Perdijk Key Grip, Amsterdam Solid Grip Systems
  3. Hello, Last year I have met some people from DayLight Textiles on the BSC-Show. It seems to me that they are carying a goog quality. Based in Manchester. Say hello to them from the dutchman! Good luck Onno Perdijk, Grip Amsterdam, Holland Solid Grip Systems
  4. Hello, If you are looking for a crane take a look at Phoenix Crane. Or else cml-sales for request? Good Luck, Onno Perdijk. KeyGrip, Amsterdam www.solidgripsystems.eu
  5. Hello all, A little late maybe... In the last few years I have achieved this kind of shots using a seat swivle support from egripment. You can easily bolt it on either a WesternDolly, Doorway or egripment-crane. There are a lot of variations of this model available where you can set the actor on one seat on a little outrig, the camera in the center and the operator on the other seat. This way you can pan the camera by using your foot and since the whole rig is a full assembly the actor will be panned along with the camera and therefor keeps the same position on the frame. If you mount this support on a crane-platform you can even do the jib-up ofcours. Your shot-foreground is set by the actor. The background is set by the height of the crane. Distances can be controlled by either using a ubanghy (or slider) for camera, or using seat-offset arms for the actor. It is a very do-able shot, with easy-acces-gear. (at least here in europe) Good Luck, Onno Perdijk KeyGrip, Amsterdam, Holland Solid Grip Systems
  6. Hello all, My TrussDollySystem is designed for shots like this! Altough the original posting does not mention heights and other dimensions my system could deal with most of them. With regards of losing height by using truss or other riggings as Warwick mentioned; my system can take an offside payload of 35 kg on a off-side-arm of a foot which gives you the ability to slide te camera with its mag up to the ceiling. (see the quicktime on my website enough self-promoting. Unfortunally there has been no sales with the US yet, still awaiting and some leads coming up! I agree with Brad that all mentioned option are ok and it all depends on the specs of the shot. Good luck, Onno Perdijk, Key Grip and parttime manufacturer. Amsterdam, Holland www.solidgripsystems.eu
  7. Hello Buddy, When going for a DIY motorized dolly you need a lot of time at first! There are so many options, all depending on speed, payload, accelaration, deceleration, exactness in speed and position, available current.... I have been working on nearly all options available, from powerdrill-driven-ropes and pulley's up till motioncontrol units and only for the lower-payloads (uptill 75kg) and I do not want to disencourage you but for the options in between powerdrill and Moco it will be hard to find a way to control the motorunit. For a DIY in a low-payload-configuration you could start with an electrical step/scooter with air tires. Remove the airtire and use this as a pulley with a rope with no stretch, with a pulley at the other side of your track. This will give you a speed of 2meter per second with a 50kg payload on a flatbed dolly.... Good luck! Onno Perdijk KeyGrip, Amsterdam www.solidgripsystems.eu
  8. Hello Rolfe, I manufacture a 10m70 wide curve made from aluminium precision track (and ofcourse tighter curves) and sell them worldwide. Unfortunally none of the owners are UK/EU-based. At this moment we havn't got a full circle available in our rental . However we do have half a 10m70 and half a 8m02 circle available. If you combine these two circles in a certain way (a 10m70 piece, a 8m02 piece, a 10m70 piece, a 8m02 piece..etc ..etc..) you get a circle of 9m36 outside diameter with a floating "center-point"... Just visit my website for contactdetails. In march/april our range of curves for rental will be complete again... If you are on a stage there is the option for rigging a 5 meter jibarm from the ceiling, upside down...? I am not this satisfied with dancefloors myself, there seems to be always something wrong with them. Good Luck, Onno Perdijk KeyGrip Amsterdam www.solidgripsystems.eu
  9. a videotap is the onboard/inbuilt videocamera to retrieve a video image from the filmcamera. Most of the times it is integrated in the camera. a videotop is the replacement of the optical viewfinder of a filmcamera by a just-video-top or a blank-top to decrease wheight: http://www.pstechnik.de/en/35-bl-evolution...st-videotop.php videodoor: The older camera's did not have a videotap. You could add a videotap to it by replacing the door of the camera: http://www.pillefilm.de/en/products/produc...show=16%7C8:200 Hope it helps, Onno Perdijk www.solidgripsystems.eu
  10. When it comes from Panther they call it a High-Low-Rig, a very usefull multiporpose tool. Onno Perdijk, Grip, Amsterdam
  11. It looks like a ronfordbaker. I would not try to do this at home... It has been previously mentioned as being a ladderpod: http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/lo...php?t14021.html Original design by Joe Dunton. Best regards. Onno Perdijk, Amsterdam
  12. Another design work-around I've seen is to use multiple wheels of different diameters (obviously each wheel axle has to be positioned for the diameter wheel being used). This is supposed to mitigate the bumps by distributing the flat spots across different areas when rolled out. Whoow, that is a very decent solution! I will take that one under considiration on my next developments... Meanwhile: the wheels. Hard wheels (96A): will not flatten this easy. They will "feel" every uneven bit of your tracking. They also make more noise and your platform of the dolly will act as a loudspeaker. When you will drive at high speed with hard wheels they will start vibrating. Softwheels (78A): will flatten easily. The will not make sound and your tracking will be very smooth if you would use 16 or 32 wheels, also with heavy payload on the dolly. The Tracks: Making tracks is not complicated. Manufacture them in such way that the are soundproof gets more complicated. Make tracks in a way that you can joint and extend them is the most important and most difficult thing. Good Luck. Onno Perdijk. Key Grip, Holland www.solidgripsystems.com
  13. Wheels like they use on trains (here in holland) run flat on the tracks. The sides hit the tracks as well. When using them on a filmdolly you will either have "the difference of surface speed" between the sides and the running-surface of the wheel or you will have the side of the wheel sometimes touching the track which will result in more resitance for the dolly-grip, so a non-continues unpredictable speed change. The flanged wheels on the fishers, hybrid and peewee do have a little "track-rounding" so in theory the should have this surface-speed-thing, on set you will not encounter them this much. 14. Hello all, There is a lot to comment on this topic, nearly to much to start doing it. here is a try First the advantage and disadvantage of U-grooved wheels: The andvantage is the shape wich will prevent de dolly from sliding of the track. T The disadavantage is hard to explain for not being native-english: If you'd take a slice-cut (cross-cut?) of the wheel on the track you will see that a U-wheel touches the round-track nearly everywhere. (if this is not the case please neglet this post). The rotation speed of the wheel is everywhere the same, (say 12 rounds per minute) wheater you are on point A or B. The surface-speed however is different, since in one rotation of the wheel, point A needs to clear a distance of say 18 cm, point B needs to clear 12 cm and point C is nearly in the centre of the wheel and does need to clear les the 1 cm. This difference in surface-speed creates internal-forces in the material (rubber, nylon, ...) of the wheel. If the material is not soft enough it will be torqued (split). To prevent the outher side of the will from having this surface-speed people tend to use WD40 or teflon or other kinds of lubrifications. This will let the wheel glide instead of roll. So for U-wheels you will need very soft material or loads of WD40 or silicone-spray on the tracks. Soft wheels tend to flatten on a heavy payload. The lubrifications gives a dirty track. Concerning the heavy dollies on scateboard wheels: The scate wheels are flat on the track so no difference on surface-speed. The more wheels to carry the payload, the less resitance on the track. The more bearings to run each wheels, the less resistance. Although with a long line of scate wheels on a row it is hard to push the dolly through a (narrow) curve. With a line of scate wheels the weight of the dolly is evenly distibuted on the track, so if you have a track-joint the dolly will have just two wheels at the same time hitting the joint. The other wheels are still running smoothly and carrying the weight. Hopefully this helps. Onno Perdijk Amsterdam, The Netherlands KeyGrip crosscut.bmp
  15. Michael Uva wrote some books about grip and grips. It has some great tips and tricks. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b/002-82...ywords=uva+film good luck, Onno Perdijk Solid Grip Systems Amsterdam The Netherlands
  16. This is what some manufacturers call a rockerplate (e.g. MovieTech.de) It is commonly used for lowangle shots without the need for a Ronfordf7 or other type of underslung-head. You could use it on car-rigs as well as in underwater circumstances. You can pan and tilt with this heads but they are defenitly not fluids! Rebuilding it to a geared head could be not this cost effective... Good Luck, Onno Perdijk Solid Grip Systems Amsterdam Netherlands
  17. With the risk of being banned: Take a look at this small dolly: http://www.solidgripsystems.eu/truss_dolly2.htm Years ago I made a dolly like this for personel-use only. Nowadays I manufacture them for everyone. I find it an easy to handle multipurpose dolly, very stable and not expensive. My primary occupation is still grip. I post this as being a grip, not a manufacturer. Onno Perdijk Solid Grip Amsterdam Netherlands
  18. Hello, for small movements you also could use a truss (trilight / lightbeam) as track. Just let the doorway run on the aluminium. Easy and quick setup; just shuffle through the sand long enough until its stable (no need for leveling as the beam are a straight line) Good luck, Onno
  19. If you take a look at their websites you'll see a real difference in the specs concerning the payload and height. I do not know a price-comparation.
