  1. Hi Battery talk . I bought a 6 volt, 4 amp dry cell that fits easily in my 15eps control box. No problems running at 24fps and 32 fps. Easily shoot 1000 feet without recharging. Roy
  2. 2009 Deadline for admissions in Undergraduate and Masters programs approaches. www.cinema.concordia.ca
  3. Allen, I suggest you check out http://konvas.org/ and join the discussion list. Post your motor and see what happens. If it is indeed a spring-wound motor for an older Konvas camera it is a desired item by some. Best of luck Roy
  4. Hello Andrew, How many many feet do you have? And where are you located? I teach at a film school in Montreal, Canada and we still do a lot of double system projection and editing on Steenbecks. Let me know... Roy
  5. Hello: I'm looking for a good used 35mm splicer. I don't need the angled sound blade, just a straight cut. Although it must be tape, not a hot splicer. Looking at all options but prefer a CIR if the price is right. Thanks for reading. Roy in Montreal
  6. Hello: Just a reminder that the deadline for applications to the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada is rapidly approaching. http://cinema.concordia.ca/ Three programs of study - Film Production, Film Animation and Film Studies. Celluloid is a staple of the program and is used almost exclusively across all three years of the Film Production program - 16mm, Super 16mm and just recently 35mm. The program is situated within a Faculty of Fine Arts so all aspects of filmmaking are encouraged and explored. Check us out. Great city, great school! Roy Cross Associate Professor Head of MFA Film Production Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema Concordia University
  7. Hi James, I'm interested. Have you shot anything with the lens and seen results projected? Thanks, Roy in Montreal
  8. Hello Steve: I'd start with Olex in the Ukraine. olex@a-teleport.com Roy in Montreal
  9. Thanks everyone, I'm looking to unspool some in my Konvas so 100' loads of bulk still film would be ok but I too wondered about issues of sprocket holes and pitch. I'd be looking to print it for projection. I found some of the 35 bulk pricing to be a bit steep. I shot some about 8 or 9 years ago when I was testing stocks for a feature I directed. I really liked it but was convinced otherwise because of my DOPs preference and some stats produced by a guy at the NFB. He basically said unless I was prepared to have it processed and printed in the UK (where I guess they used Ilford chemicals?) there wouldn't be any real difference. However, I stumbled onto some tests I did for said feature and I'd really like to revisit the possibilities. Thanks again... Roy in Montreal
  10. Hello: I realize this is a stretch, but does anyone have some 35mm Ilford HP5 or FP4 sitting in the back of their fridge that they want to sell me? Roy in Montreal
  11. Marc: I'll look in the fridge but I think all I have is 5222. I have many short ends as I shoot with a Konvas and 60 meter mag. If I have any, I'll get your address and ship it over. Roy in Montreal
  12. Hello John; I think Raf machined a Follow Focus for the 2M. He found a solution to getting around the motor but it required sophisticated machining which drove the price up. I vaguely remember but it was about a year or so ago that it popped up on one of the sites. Roy
  13. Hello: Sounds very, very interesting. Have you contacted Eastman House? They might be helpful. And they are located in Rochester! http://www.eastmanhouse.org/ There is also a yearly event called Home Movie Day sponsored by numerous museums across North America. People can bring in old movie footage and watch them at the museum. Your footage sounds like it might not make it through a normal 16 projector but I am certain that an archivist would be very intrigued by your find. http://www.homemovieday.com/ Roy in Montreal www.roycross.com
  14. Yes, I second those comments by Bruce. Many thanks Olex. Roy in Montreal
  15. Hello John: I just wanted to send a belated thanks to you for all your help on this site. Most important is your kind disposition when answering all kinds of crazy stuff. Like when someone is processing film in their bathtub or toilet or kitchen sink with old stock and nearly exhausted chemistry and comes looking for tips on how to make thing look grainier or have deeper blacks or more contrast - you never condescended or patronized anyone. Through your selfless nature, you educated, informed and encouraged us. So for those of us who would rather do it ourselves than send it to the lab -- I salute you! Respectfully yours, Roy Cross in Montreal
  16. I see the auction has ended, but for future reference if unsure, check to see where he is located and tell him you're gonna be in his town and can you come by and have a look or could you pick it up and pay cash in person. See what type of response you get. Roy this advice from a guy who bought a Konvas from Kiev, Ukraine and wired the guy money directly to his bank.
  17. Thanks for the friendly advice on finding some Kodachrome 16, but all my colleagues with Kodachrome 16 are holding it close to their own Bolex. My ebay search turns up display boxes that have been in a mom and pop photography store since 1965. I'll keep looking. But as far as I know, Dwaynes will process long after the end of this year. As far as I can tell from their web site, Kodak intends to keep producing Kodachrome in 35mm for consumer slide photography and I am assuming that means chemistry will be be available for a place like Dwaynes. I had a roll of Kodachrome 16mm that I bought during a trip to LA in 1992 and didn't get around to shooting it until 2003. I sent it to Dwaynes and it came back as beautiful as anything. There is a lab in Indian Head, Saskatchewn , Canada that runs old and acient film process. It will process film that your granddad shot in 1965 but never got around to dropping off at the lab. Sadly, they can not colour process any films without dyes in the emulsion (like agfachrome). http://www.filmrescue.com/ For your interest. Roy
  18. "It seems such a shame that there is still so much stock lying around which is only a year or so out of date which could be put to good use. Its not really cost effective for those in Europe to send their carts to America." So much of this stock laying around? Where? I'm interested in buying 16mm Kodachrome. I just sent my last two Super8 rolls in. Roy
  19. Hi Stephen: How much for the 5222? Where are you located? I'm in Montreal. Thanks Roy roko@alcor.concordia.ca
