  1. LTO is not the best digital option by any means. Hard drives will beat LTO by 10-15 years, all other factors being equal. Best strategy? Keep it moving- from drive, to cloud, to whatever's new. 16GB on Amazon Web Services costs what, two dollars?
  2. I have to admit, I wasn't really looking at Nikon because I wanted to stay 1080p....but the motion artifact problem make the Nikon compelling. I shoot stills on Nikon D300 and D200, and use old Zeiss Hasselblad lenses with an adapter. The Zeiss glass, some of it 20 years old, is still noticeably sharper than new Nikkor or other Japanese lenses....but they are all completely manual.
  3. I'm curious to know what TC setup most people use with their 5D/7D/550D in multicam shoots. Ambient? Horita? Denecke? Do you use a Beachtek, or just make cables and use an attenuator? And how about post- do you sync up ahead of time, or just eyeball it? Sync map? Let us know!
  4. Really nice. The only criticism I can offer is that I might have kept the camera on a tripod instead of those handheld shots- I think moving in and out of focus got the point across well enough. Well acted too.
  5. Does anyone here have in-depth info about George T. Clemens? He shot most of the Twilight Zone original series, I absolutely love his look.....formats, stock, cameras on Twilight Zone? Thanks. E. Steinberg Producer S.F., CA
  6. Here's my round-base (Rex 2), converted by JK Camera to Super 16. It performs beautifully with the short ends I get from NFL Films. That's a 10mm Switar and a 3 inch Bell & Howell on there...and it's sitting on a Bilora tripod that has a leaky fluid head (anybody know where I can get the head serviced? Bilora.de won't answer my emails, perhaps because they're not in German....) http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Wh9vR...feat=directlink http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/MEU6f...feat=directlink http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/gvQph...feat=directlink http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/hGHt9...feat=directlink http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Cu7i9...feat=directlink http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-sOLE...feat=directlink
  7. Thomas, dude, that is the gnarliest run-on sentence (outside of Finnegan's Wake) that I've ever seen..... :P
  8. Beautiful. One shot looks soft- spectacled guy on bed with photo. Love the b/w, gangster in a wheelchair. REALLY love the short skateboarder clip.
  9. Another recorder, possibly? http://dveo.com/broadcast-systems/hd-digital-recorder.shtml How about using the Iconix and converting it to ASI? http://www.evertz.com/products/2405EO-HD You can then record using something like this, attached to a laptop: http://dveo.com/pdf/DivCatch.pdf ....I've used all of the above items, in various combinations, and they work well. Steiny (415)819-2009 Sand Francesco Producer
  10. Northwest Film Forum: http://www.nwfilmforum.org/ ....has one of JK Camera's digital workprinters, but it's only Regular 16. I think they may have converted it to video as well. Actually, some of these new point-and-shoots could probably be adapted to something like this; there goes your shutter issue. I've been very interested in this device for a while, can't afford one (Jakko wants $7500 for one), certainly can't afford the next step up in "quality" (Cintel Ditto). I imagine the servo contol of a projector would be very easy to program, using basic stamp or arduino or something like that.....I like the RGB LED idea on the Cintel....what's the best (gentlest) projector movement to use? And what about turning this whole thing into a lens attachment on a D200? Sealed housing, self loading, you could even do wet-gate if you were careful......anyone here know where to get drawings for a Nikon lens mount?
  11. I love the Plus-X and the Tri-X, but my favorite right now is the Hi-Con (7363?) ASA 8. I'm sad that it's only a dual-perf film; I'd love to shoot that film in Super. I shot a few indoor scenes with a roll of that stuff, and way underestimated the light.....what came out was just highlights in a sea of black, the most amazing effect.
  12. OMG!!!! Are there any other JK Camera- style setups for rent or in use? USA? Anywhere else? -Steiny producer SF, CA
  13. I think the best deal out there is the Tascam HD-P2. It records timecode, uses flash media, and costs approximately half of what the Edirol R-4 is going for....
