  1. Hi Richard. I also have an unfulfilled Orwo order from Dec 15th. It’s only 4 x 100ft rolls but still irritating. Hopefully you will get yours fulfilled soon. Cheers.
  2. Thank you very much. I suspected that the optics were different. Thanks for clearing this up. I will check out the EBay listing.
  3. Quick question for an expert. Is it possible for a Switar AR lens to be converted or collimated into an RX version that will work with the Bolex reflex prism? The lens in question is a Switar 16mm 1.8 AR. Thank you.

  5. Color reversal. Surprised Chicago doesn't offer reversal processing. Thanks for the info.
  6. Looking for a Lab in Chicago that will process 16mm color reversal. It looks like I may have to ship to New York or Seattle. Any ideas? Thanks.
  7. Hey, does anyone know where I can get that kick ass Cylon voice from the TV show? I have not been able to duplicate it accurately.
  8. Last year I emailed Bolex in Switzerland about this conversion and their reply was; ' The Bolex M camera cannot be modified to Super 16.' I then talked to JK camera (in the states) who said they would be happy to give it a shot. I wanted this camera for time lapse photography, but then figured out how to use my already converted EBM for the same purposes, and abandoned the quest. JK camera sounded enthused about the project, call them.
  9. Please excuse my lack of experience in asking this question. I am interested in push processing 5218 2 stops to create a look similar to 'Eyes Wide Shut'. (blown out highlights, etc.) My question is; will a print, pushed 2 stops from a negative that was processed normally, look the same as a print exposed normally from a negative that was pushed 2 stops during processing? Bad question? One has to learn somehow. thank you.
  10. you can try Procam in Arizona; http://www.bolex-usa.com/ He should be able to hook you up with replacement battery or new battery system.
  11. I rented a car for an 'escape' scene where the actress kicked the passenger window out. I had paid for the insurance and when I returned the car, no one even blinked. My mental state was so warped at the time, that it seemed like a rational option, (major sleep deprevation). I would never recommend this type of behavior, unless you know you won't get caught. Then I would recommend it completely.
  12. Yes, it fully covers Super-16 and is sharp. It's also my favorite lens for 'run and gun' style shooting. For fun, I sometimes use this bad boy with a regular 16 Bolex M camera, (which has no viewfinder). Since the entire depth of field is in focus, I just point it in the general direction I want, and shoot. I am always surprised by how good this 'blind man' footage turns out.
  13. I also own a Super-16 Bolex EBM and use a Kinoptik 5.7mm TEGEA (in a c-mount). I have had great results with this lens.
  14. That was all acting by the dog - fantastic. Stunt dogs from that era were skilled professionals who could perform these astonishing feats in their sleep. Today, these dogs are overpaid prima donnas who show up to the set late and often intoxicated. A real shame.
  15. need help, Regular 16mm image shown (fully) on widescreen TV leaves black vertical bars on right and left borders. I want to slide full 16mm image to the right side of 16x9 frame, leaving a larger black space on the left border where I can overlay animated artwork and graphics. Is this framing something I must do during the telecine transfer, or is this an 'effect' I can achieve later? My final destination for project is to finish on DVD. Thank you.
  16. "Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone who has actually had a camera converted by either company can share their personal experience regarding reliability, image quality, useable lenses and anything else of interest." I've had 2 Bolex bayonet mount cameras converted to S16. One at the factory in Switzerland, and one by Les Bosher. Both conversions were well done, but shipping overseas is a pain. Factory conversion uses all new parts but you pay for them in a big way. I have heard that JK conversions are excellent. Send your camera to him.
  17. I just bought one of these and it works well. Records onto a flash card that inputs via firewire directly to the mac for editing. This will free up your sound guy. Of course, long cables to your camera is the way to go if you want to save cash. good luck. http://www.tascam.com/Products/hdp2.html
  18. Shoot regular 16 and concentrate on your story. Grain is a small issue compared to content problems. I wrote and directed an outhouse that would still be unwatchable if I had shot it in 70mm, with the finest cinematography known to man.
  19. I shot a low budget feature on a CP16R. Loved the camera. I think it had done a tour of Nam in the 70's and we all gave it the respect it deserved. When I started the editing process however, I discovered that the camera's crystal sync had not worked. All audio from the dialogue scenes would wander off like a drunk dog. Luckily, our film was a comedy and this unexpected 'bonus' was used to our advantage. I still like the CP16s. Just make darn sure that you service that bad boy, and know that everything is seaworthy before you start.
  20. If you want to stick with your current Bolex model, here is an option; Chambless Cine Equipment will add a magazine saddle to your H16 Rex 4 for $200.00. Here's a the link, scroll down to the bottom; http://www.chamblesscineequip.com/catalog/catalog.htm I think that JK camera (Meritex Inc.) does the service for them - JK does great work on Bolex cameras. http://www.jkcamera.com/meritex_products.htm You should get the camera motor and a take-up magazine motor (WM over the MM). I Had trouble with the MM motor jamming. Good Luck, Duncan McDougall
  21. I have also been 'terrorized' by camera mics in the past. Eventually, I began recording sound separately to ensure quality. It's important to place the mic as close to the source as possible without compromising the shot. I don't know enough about mics to advise you, but think there is a related sound forum that could help. I use an ancient Sennheiser mic that could double as a dinosaur fossil. Yes, I have looked at steadycam.org before and was impressed with Mr. Lee's creation. The demo videos look good for such an inexpensive item. Duncan
  22. I do plan to record sound separately, but will go with a prosumer model like the DVX100. I'm quite new to this field & wasn't sure if my little camera could 'cut it'. Thank you for your response. Duncan
  23. Hello. Do you think that a consumer level mini DV (Canon Elura $500 approx) would be too low end for documentary footage? My guess is that I need a better camera. I plan to intersperse 16mm shots in places. Thank you for any advice. -Duncan
