  1. Hey all, after my K-3 crapped out on me i have decided to stick with SD video for a while longer. at the moment I have around 1300 to spend, and am looking for one of the two pre-mentioned cameras. I know its not likely that anyone is willing to part with one for so little, but its worth a try I suppose. thanks, dory
  2. I'd roll with the XL2 and a good wide angle adapter for what your talkin about. I love those mountains as well, and like to shoot there whenever possible. Stay away from hi def tho.
  3. Lenses are no longer avalible as I fixed my K-3.
  4. Hehehehe! I just fixed it :D :D :D :D !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just a couple of reflectiosn.... ALWAYS have a good set of VERY SMALL screw drivers around when you tear into your K-3. DONT remove ANY of the set screws. If you do, make sure to magnatize your screwdriver, as it will save you a TON of trouble. DONT Remove the loop formers yourself, it could very well end up in you needing to remove the fil counter. I'm having to re-build my own   <_< . Make sure EVERYTHING is fit JUST right before you are done. Run a test roll and get it developed before you use it for a serious shoot. I still havent done said action.
  5. SHHHH!!!! nobody, touch, anything. <_<
  6. yeah man you should stab me in the jaw. i'm going to try and fix it myself, but i doubt it. it would be so nice if i could.... the thing that realy tears me up is that i did it EXACTLY how NCS shows on their website.
  7. Well, this may be a bit of a blessing in disguise, because I know have the chance to get a super 16 K-3 cheep. If not taht one, ten atleast one with a screw mount.
  8. Hey all, now that the body of my K-3 is broken with only 100 feet of film run through it, I am selling my two lenses i have. One is the stock zoom lens, clean glass, no fungi, with both caps and the lens hood. The other is a 12mm prime with a minimum focousing distance of .25 meeters, so its good for close up work, as the stcok lens only goes up to 2 meeters. It is clean and has both caps. The Meteor Zoom will be 200 dollars (thas 95 less then NCS charges) The Prime will be 100 dollars (its a rare one, and I was lucky to come across it) you can have both for 250. Both are bayonet mount.
  9. Hey all... I just got some bad news for myself. I was trying to get and the film gate on my K-3, and somehow mannaged to mess up the mainspring :( :( :( :( :( :( . Now I am told that it would be cheeper just to get a new one off of eBay. I talked to Bernie O, he says its not likely that it could be repaired for less then a new one. maybe I'll poke around in the internals a little more and see what I cant mess up more now. Anyway, I am now very dipressed. I feel like an idiot for actualy going and opening it up. Someone slap me? Later, A very depressed Dory
  10. Alright thanks. I think I'm going to use 250T stock with a tungston to daylight filter and a yellow filter to get he effect I'm going for. SHould be cool.
  11. I'm a little confused about this one. I thought that there wasnt any T/D ballancing in BW film because there isnt any color? Am I wrong?
  12. 1/48 is the standard film shutter speed for 24 fps (realtime). On a video camera, you can set it higher for a smoother immage (less moion blurr, but I find motion blurr contributes to the film look) but ou will need to open the iris more.
  13. If you'd like, I can give you limited acces to my FTP site for this. Wont charge you a damn thing and its realy easy to upload stuff. Send an email to undrgrndtw{[at]}gmail{dot}com if your interested.
  14. same buddy, SAM-FRICKIN-E! except, I'm, not, realy an.. old fart hahaha.
  15. snoop around the rental houses and see if you can get any deals on used ones.
  16. Titles don't make you anything special. Non of the Warren Miller Entertainment, Matchstick Productions or Freeride Entertainment cinematographers are part of ASC, and personally I don't think ANYONE can beat those fools! I'm not noking anyone and defenetly have great respect for all cinematographers, but You could honistly be the best one out there and not be part of ASC or any such union/what ever it is.
  17. nope. i proufly roll without any type of TV:). We just have on for movies hahaha.
  18. I watch CSI on DVD since I am without cable or satalite.
  19. As far as I know, non of the Sony SD cameras offer cine controlls. I'd say snoop around and try to find a good deal on a used but in good condition Panasonic AG-DVX 100A or 100B. The B has been prefected over the A, although it doesnt have the timelaps function. One of my friends uses them exclusively for his projects and I must say the footage it yields is pretty damn good for a sub-5000 grand SD camera. Good luck!
  20. I'm gonna go along with Tim on this one. Check out the Arri 16s. I havent used one, or even played with (held/looked at in person) one, but they seem to e very popular. Look around eBay and then send it up to Tim for service.
  21. 24p isnt all there is to a film look on video, but the DVX100 B or A will give you plenty of controlls. Good luck!
  22. I'm pretty sure its grain... something else I noticed, Casino Royal has a lot of grain, more so then I recall seeing in any 16mm shot, wasn't shot on 65mm? Odd. Oh well. BTW a lot of the nutty colors in CSI LV are just well used gradients.
