  1. Got to play with it at IBC . I was equally impressed and dissapointed. It's hard to figure out who this camera is aimed at.I would guess the 5D owner user who really would like to have a RAW option. The footage I saw was very good both the graded RAW and the ProRes but that is hardly surprising. It's the camera itself I had more worries about it has a kind of "My first RAW camera" feel to it. For example the audio input is Jack and I know you have XLR to jack converters but that's going backwards I think. But it is $3000! Though I'm guessing you'll be closer to $6000 when you've Bought some extra lenses SSD cards, and an external battery option. Anyway Philip Bloom likes it!

    IBC

I'll be at IBC tomorrow anyone going? Going to try and catch the CML party in the evening.
  3. Nice job Andy Looks great! The pink and blue is a different approach a bit "Murphyesque" Really liked it!
  4. Wonderful interview with the man himself ever seen this?
  5. One of mine to, have'nt read his autobiography yet though can't find a copy under 50 quid!
  6. Hilarious !! I love the diffusion overkill in the 80's. Cut to a woman's face and it looked like the frame was painted with milk! To be fair it was normal for the time.
  7. Thanks Stephen! Another true artist. There's a real shortage of this kind of documentation and I would guess a reasonable niche market. Would be great if a publisher like Taschen would pick up on the idea and just run with it.
  8. Thanks Stephen! He truly was an extraordinary artist.
  9. Also check out a Dutch film " Rabat " shot entirely on the 5D and 7D! Once again It's much less about the gear and more about the story, the performance and the skill of the filmmakers. If you want a film look shoot film!
  10. Well that was just well said Bill! Got breakfast in bed and a bottle of Ardbeg!
  11. Really? come on Bill you might be disappointed by Prometheus but when you calm down you can't stand by that statement can you? He's just a filmmaker like you!!!
  12. This was always going to be a difficult one for Ridley! He set the standard for this genre. Then goes back after 33 years of veneration. You almost wonder why he did it, I think the maverick in him has melowed and the demographic has the upper hand. This is a film for the demographic. Ticks all the boxes and leaves the old fans wanting more. I saw this film with my 16yr old son Tristan. when the titeles came up and we stood to leave I said " so what did you think" he said "awesome film! just awesome!"
  13. Treasure chest David Thanks! Fascinating to read how things really haven't changed that much in terms of new technology. Also fascinating to read that it took another two decades before it was seriously embraced. Also good to see that ten years ago you were still considered "a nice young man"
  14. Also the problems he describes with the film rubbing the edges of the magazine and buckeling. True pioneer!
  15. Thanks David that was a great article! And I think the phrase "Grandeur film" should be reintroduced into our vocabulary.
  16. We were based in Addis but went all over the place, the country is huge! The size of France and Spain combined. some of the locations were very remote, 1 hour flight, 4 hours in a 4x4 and then another hour by foot. Spectacularly beautiful places we went to and the people are hospitable and genuinely warm. We did have 2 guys with AK47's with us all the time though which does take a bit of adjustment!
  17. So I get a call in September of last year if I would like to go to Ethiopia for 3 weeks to shoot a doc about seed farmers. No real budget, very low pay, no crew! Just me and the director. I loved every second of it! https://vimeo.com/38926351
  18. 30 days is not long Ben! I would start worrying after about 60 days! have you contacted them? I was once payed 13 months after wrapping! It's not uncommon in our business!!
  19. It's a story not often told this one. I remember reading Sebastian Barry's "A Long Long Way" And being shocked that I new so little about what these boy's went through, and the dilemma they found themselves in. Fighting in the same army that was killing there people back home.
  20. A different look for you Stephen! Beautiful photography! as always. You really nailed the look.
  21. The Scarlet Isn't even shipping yet is it?? You can only put a deposit on it!
  22. Take her on a "London walk" if there still doing them, they are very good! The "Jack the Ripper walk"was particularly good I remember. Anyone from LA will love it. I think they do a Dickens one as well.
