  1. Hi Clive, Any chance of your IIC crystal motor returning too? :) Babar
  2. Thanks for the reply John! That sounds like a good possibility. Wonder where some of the rental houses get their 16V belts from?
  3. Hi guys, I bought an Arri IIC recently. Unfortunately the belt that I got with it is an old Cine60 that appears to be a 12V not a 16V. I have the Arri VS motor. Where can I get a 16V belt or battery for a reasonable price? There is a local shop that will make me a 16V block but they want to charge me $1300.00 for just the charger alone. Please advise! Babar
  4. I just saw the film last night too and I agree - every composition was gorgeous which I appreciated. I thought the lighting was weak for a lot of the film though... and the decision to print on the colour stock... there were a lot of variations in the print I saw going from magenta to neutral to green at times - disappointing and distracting. Kind of wish they had shot on 5231 or 5222, or at least printed on B&W stock so there would be no colour shift.
  5. Just saw a trailer for I'm Not There tonight. Looked great... especially liked the black-and-white sequences. Wondering if anyone has any tech info on how the film was shot/stocks workflow etc.?
  6. According to the Arri 90th Anniversary book, it was shot with Arri IIBs.
  7. Hi there, I believe there is such an adapter on EBay right now (something about a custom made one by Les Bosher for Bolex). Cheers Babar The lens covered Super 16 with no problems on the Arriflex 16SR and the Aaton LTR that I used it on, so it should cover Super 16 on a Bolex with no problems. My only concern would be that I don't know of an adapter that would allow you to use a Zeiss lens with ARRI bayonet mount on a Bolex EBM. Maybe there is one, I just have never seen it.
  8. Hi, You can get this package from Complete Film. Best Babar
  9. Hi all, I have a shoot coming up next weekend. My DP wants to do some Steadicam work, we will be shooting with my S16 Bolex RX5. I am wondering if someone can advise me where I could rent a lipstick cam to use as a video tap? Any idea of cost? I am in Toronto. Also might very well need to rent a Tobin variable speed motor, and a couple of RX lenses (> 75mm, 16mm) that I don't own. Where would I get these?? Does anyone have some of this stuff and would be willing to rent to me? Thanks!! B
  10. Jonathan, Are you looking for a C mount to PL adapter? Babar
  11. Bernie is indeed a great guy but he doesn't do S16 conversions on Bolex - I asked him before getting mine done. He does do the laser brightening if you want to improve the groundglass brightness though.

  13. 1. All great options! I have a Rex 5 that I recently had converted to S16 by Jaakko Kurhi (www.jkcamera.com). He does a great conversion including a viewfinder upgrade if necessary. Cost for me with a complete overhaul/lube was about $1450.00 or so. Camera is running absolutely beautifully now. For specific costs check his site (depends on camera model etc.) 2. I stumbled across a C mount to PL converter last month, at Visual Products designed for Bolex, which looks beautifully made. That is the only one I know about. Les Bosher makes a Bayonet to PL mount adapter should you end up with a SBM.
  14. Thanks so much guys! Very helpful and much appreciated!
  15. Hello, I was just about to send my Rex5 to JK to convert to S16 until I saw this auction: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...ADME:L:RTQ:CA:1 Now I am wondering if I would be better off getting this camera and possibly selling my Rex. Can someone confirm that this is a Bolex factory S16? Is this the 13X or 14X finder? Late model? I'm not that familiar with the newer Bolexes coming out of the factory. This seems like a very good deal to me considering the price of a conversion. Also can someone tell me if there is a weight difference between the Rex5 and SBM? Any other internal differences to be aware of re the movement? Thanks in advance!!
  16. Hi Andres, I have a Rex5 that I am just about to have JK convert to s16. I am assuming you don't plan to ever use to 400ft mag? The only reasons to go with an SBM would be if you wanted to use a PL-mount adapter at some point to put some modern glass on the camera - or if you planned to use some heavy zooms/35mm primes that would weigh your Rex4 turret down (e.g., bayonet-only mount Kern zoom lens). Even so, you could always get Les Bosher to convert your Rex4 and he would replace the C mount with a Bolex bayonet (a little bit more $). So I would say go with JK unless you plan to use PL glass.
  17. Truly wonderful film! Just attended 35mm screening here in Toronto at Kodak. Congrats to Mr. Mullen! A real testament to the generosity of these DPs and a reflection of their passion and obsession, and humility.
  18. Helpful thread! Wondering your advice as I am also thinking about converting my RX5 but I'm confused. Would you suggest going the Les Bosher route and getting a bayonet front put on, so that you could use the PL adapter which he told me allows the the use of modern PL mount glass with no problem? Or would you go the JK route and leave the turret and be limited to the C mount variety? Or should I sell it and get an SBM? Really appreciate your expert thoughts!! Cheers Babar
