  1. Hi, 10mm cinegon is 39mm, 6-66 is 62mm......If your 6-66 has the original two part metal lens shade, a 72mm filter sits inside the two halfs of the shade ;)
  2. Hi, transportation of the 100D was superb thru the leicina, via an 814xl-s i get a build up of emulsion in the gate, i am still waiting for the 814xl-s results to come back from the lab. Results with the leicina+10mm cinegon and a 0.6 nd filter were great, except for the skin colours. Skin colour was very red, even though the subject was taken in the shade on a sunny day. Wittner 50D surpasses on the skin colours and sharpness. I have found images via the bolex ds-8 loaded with 100d to be less saturated and more accurate on the skin colours?
  3. The 50mm f1.4 pentax lens is a better lens, there was nothing wrong with my lens or adapter. I also recall using a 50mm f1.8 canon fd lens, again this didn't really inspire me. I did shoot some 'Concorde' footage during its last year of operations on the R16 via a leica 180mm lens, now that was razer sharp. Amateur Photographer 50mm lens test from the 1980s gave the 50mm pentax 50mm f1.7a only a good rating on the optical quality, whilst nikon, leica and canon ( 50mm f1.4 ) faired a lot better.
  4. Hi, i did mess many years ago with a pentax 50mm f1.7A lens on an R16 via an adapter, the resolving power of the lens was poor when compared to a proper 16mm lens on the camera ( namely the schneider cinegon 25mm f1.4 ). Unless you require longer focal lenghts on the camera, i would be inclined to stick with super 8 lenses designed for the camera.
  5. Hi, looking to transfer some anamorphic super 8 100D ( cartridge based ) to digi beta in the next few weeks, at the same time, i'll add a few minutes of DS-8 K25, will post, once transferred.
  6. fyi:- A conversion was once available to convert the standard 6v 10w lamp into IQ lighting, ( 2 pin lamp ), this company may still hold the necessary parts for the conversion http://aavon.com/bristolcine.html
  7. Hi, i went the ds-8 route a few years ago, as stocks of kodachrome 25 were still available long after 16mm k25 had bitten the dust. I went the canon ds-8 route at first, but i was disappointed with the lens quality. Finally purchased a bolex ds-8 with the 3 primes, k25 images via the bolex are absolutely stunning. I'm still shooting k25/40 for now. Kodak ds-8 100d looks very good through switar glass, images seem to be less saturated than cartridge based super 8 wittner 100d ( still waiting for kodak loaded 100d to come back from the lab ). If k25/40 was still an option, i would invest in converting the bolex, but given we only have 100d or wittner 50d in the format, i would be inclined to shoot standard 8 100d or 50d. I shoot regular/standard 8 too, R8 wittner 50 ( velvia ) looks a lot sharper than super 8 100d via the same optics despite the smaller image area.
  8. Your film, exactly mimic's my finding with the stock, i've 100d with blown out highlights, i doubt a pro transfer would be able to correct this?. Art how does the actual footage look projected? are the highlights actually blown out? LOL, all this negativity from me regarding 100D yet i'm loading up the bolex ds-8 with some for this weekend... Andy ps, hope you didn't mind me posting your link?
  9. I'm certainly not clinging to the iconic ideal kodachrome was, and still is for me. The evidence is on a projected screen, colours, edge definition is much better on a kodachrome original over 100d. If kodachrome looks mudy and dark, then you must be doing something wrong. Agreed k40, is not the best on a grubby day, k25 was the better film for daylight compared to k40. Look at this test footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqe4Ho6_YiY 'blown out highlights' my main gripe with 100d.
  10. Each to his/her own. I find 100D suffers from blown out hightlights and lacks the sharpness of 64t. Its a high contrast disneychrome colour film that appears to be sharp due to its high contrast. I certainly get no fix with DS-8 100D and 16MM 100d. K40 is sharper than 100D and looks better projected, their is a bite to a k25/40 image that 100d sadly lacks, unless on BCU. I hated 64t at first, but after using 100d, prefer 64t over 100d any day. Hats off to kodak for supporting super 8 and releasing 100d, and yes i'll probably be using quite a bit of the stuff....
  11. Hi, many thanks for the reply, i'm tending to obtain slightly over exposed footage with my 8-36. Just wondering if the iris is kicking back to compensate for the bolex prism? something i've already compensated for? Although i'm setting the iris ( on the white line ) for f5.6, once the trigger is fully depressed, i'm finishing up with aprrox f5.0-ish...... Perhaps the answer is not to use the trigger release mech on the lens. Thanks again Andy
  12. Hi, i've trawled the net in search of some info regarding the 8-36 vario switar lens for the H8rx. There are 3 markings on the barrel, attached is a photo, i'm afraid i've blacked out two of the markings either side of the screw. My question is, which mark do i use for setting the exposure?. When the trigger is pressed, the iris opens up, then closes down, but the iris always presets back to approx one third over exposure, ie if i set the lens to 5.6, i press the trigger, the lens opens up to 4.5 !! Thus, i'm tending to over exposure footage with this lens... Any help/info would be greatly received...
  13. Hi, you need to use the macro setting on the 6-66 lens with the UWIII... Use the 6mm end of the lens, then obtain focus by moving the macro lever till all appears sharp in the viewfinder.
  14. Will a Petition make any difference, kodak took no notice of the super 8 user when they announced the end of k40, recall there were approx 5000 names on an online petition.
  15. Hi, kodak gave us plenty of notice back in 2005/6 regarding the deadline for super 8 k40 processing, September 2006 was cut off for super 8 cartridge processing (k40) and Dec 2006 for 8mm, ds-8 and 16mm kodachrome. Yes we've all trumped up for process paid kodachrome, in my case 100 plus rolls of ds-8 and 16mm kodachrome. I'm surprised that you found it difficult to locate the only k14 lab left in the world. The lab in Switzerland is closed, my understanding is they will only accept pre-paid slide film ( which is forwarded to Dwayne's ). All cine formats should be sent direct to Dwayne's irrespective if they are European process paid, something i've been doing since Jan 2007.. Good Luck with your kodachrome, hope you mange to expose some of your stock, you have till Dec 2010, after that its the end of the kodachrome era :(
  16. Hi, i have a letter from kodak announcing the discontinuance of 64t ( 7280 ) and Plus-X ( 7265 ).. Andy
  17. Hi, noticed this on filmshooting.com, and its no April fools joke, announcement is Tuesday 6th April http://www.schmalfilm-online.de/news/Sensa...uper+8+Film/175 Fingers crossed its no joke....
  18. Hi, use 64t with an 85b and vision 200/500t with an 85... An 85b is a slightly more deeper orange than a 85...
  19. I'll keep you posted, the only stock i may off load would be either double 8 or double super 8 k40....
  20. Hi, have you tried the time lapse without film stock? is the film fresh or an ebay purchase, early 64t were not lubricated and some caused transport issues. when the camera fails, what does the battery indicator show, is the needle still swinning accross the blue area. Could be a sticky cartridge, try another cart of film...
  21. Hi, fyi, once available was a isco-gottingen 10mm iscorama-cinegon f1.8 1.5x lens, look here http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?sh...25830&st=20 scroll down to ''post 33'' The lens was a 10mm schneider cinegon, with the iscorama lens attached to the front, the two lens are one unit, so no support rods etc are required. The only downside is your stuck with the 10mm lens. These were available with the beaulieu LCU or as c-mount... They are also extremely rare....
  22. WOW, how on earth did you root out that k25, thought i searched every corner of the planet for k25.. After twenty years of filming on kodachrome, its the end of an era this year. Busy year, have 17000 feet of ds-8 and 8mm kodachrome along with 16 rolls of 16mm k40 to expose by December :o ...
  23. ''Stoppage of 64T in S8 is just a made up rumour of one of these forums'' Only a rumour, but there has to be a knock on effect, especially once the super 8 stockpile of 64t is exhausted... 100D from kodak at 64t prices :)
  24. Hi, 16mm k40 is sharper ( down to my last 16 rolls :( ), ds-8 k25 also has more bite than fuji 50d on a projected screen. However the 50d is certainly the best current super 8 reversal stock available. I've seen a fair amount of single 8 R25 projected last year at a film show, taken with the zc1000. The same film show k40 and ds-8 k25 was also projected. The fuji R25 looked good until the kodachrome footage was shown.. I have a project that requires modern looking, clean super 8 and the fuji looks to be the only option. Given the price is the same as Wittner 100D, the additional sharpness of the fuji stock make it a real winner, shame about the cost...
  25. Hi, the film was purchased from Wittner and processed at Andec. There seems to be so little feedback on the net regarding super 8 wittner 50. I've previously used 16mm w50d and the w64t, but never there super 8 offing. Camera was the leicina special running at 18fps and 54fps. Price wise, eek, one can purchase two carts of kodak 64t for the price of one cart of 50d... Whilst kodak 64t is a great stock for sunny days, the downside, is the grain on a dull day... Placed an order for ten more 50d, will report back in a few weeks...
