  1. Seems to me I'd want to see the image on the Monitor in B&W on Set... not wait till it is in FCP to see what I had.... how else can you make your corrections while shooting? Enjoy the Project!
  2. Per the rules of this forum, please go to My Controls and change your screen name to your real first and last name. Also, why list yourself as a DP when you aren't one?
  3. This Boom might be available... just remember it is not always the equipment, but the operator of the equipment that makes it sing.
  4. I just bought the Junior Version of that cart. This Cart. I was told it is more popular and easily fits in (a) car. The 4ft one you have linked may not fit in many vehicles. They said the Junior is better when working a lot of interiors. It all depends on what you are doing.. if it was for Stage or a lot of exterior work, I would not hesitate to have the extra real estate the 2x4 cart provides... but for me.. the 2x3 made more sense. They said mine will also have a baby pin (not pictured)... that now comes with that Package. Also having some Grip and Electric carts being built by Noma Fabrication... don't get me started on carts...!!!
  5. I worked with an awesome 1st AC (Chris Taylor) for years and years and he always referred to 'Soft FX' Filters as 'Soft Focus' Filters... I tried them once and found their ability to defocus an image (way) too powerful.. I did not like the effect at all! Never used them again.. but that doesn't mean they don't have their 'place'... it's just not in my particular Filter Case. ;)
  6. Again Saul, you are wrong on every account if you assume each of these items did/ does not trouble me deeply. Best ascribe those attitudes to someone who it applies.
  7. Yes Tom it came from the State of California, however, California just doesn't come with these things and enact them on their own... I mean, it is a failing State (financially) with many many businesses hurting (and /or leaving). This came from Washington and California always goes first... so this is coming to a State near you soon. And geez, do you really think that book insert was a fake.. and the audio track edited to make her stumble? Wow... they sure fooled me  LOL! As far as Maxinne Waters goes.. here it is unedited: Socialism?.. unedited To everyone else, I included the video link in the original post because our 'leaders' say they are 'for' small businesses, after all, they employ 80% of the work force so surely if we want to get people back to work the stimulus money will go to small businesses so they can continue to hire.. and get no/low interest loans to purchase equipment such as generators. Ya Right! They even went after the Chamber of Commerce who represent small businesses. I hate to see my friend get hammered. Obviously some here could care less as it does not affect (them).
  8. I Lie?!... I see... That is easy to say all the way from Alaska. You are sure going to look the FOOL when other companies express their dilemma regarding this issue (should they visit this site). What kind of jerk would call someone a liar when they are sharing something very real that affects our industry? Why the hell would I conjure up such a fib?... Farmer spam?... are you an idiot? Unbelievable Michael! btw... as far as the digression is concerned, I only responded to topics (you) brought up. It is hard to defend these things caught on tape I know... I don't blame you for walking one bit. At least Scott acknowledges he embraces death panels and socialism. Adios Compadre!
  9. Well.. that says it all Scott. Wow. I have answered.... you are just blinded my friend.
  10. You need to watch this Kill the Grandparents ...and to think people clap for that :( ..and this ...as for selling our children down the river.. take a look at our climbing debt. ..anyway I digress.. I just pray my friend is able to cope with this small business 'friendly' administration.
  11. Huh? Don't you get it? He will have to close up shop... send his employees home... liquidate... Obviously this topic will only have meaning for those who actually 'run' a business.... or for those unfortunate ones who work for a company such as the generator rental house in San Francisco who are affected by such sudden Governmental demands.
  12. Ya.. you're right... it is his fault for risking all his capitol and purchasing a couple generators and over a period of thirteen years building his business into San Francisco's largest Movie Generator Rental Company! What a fool.... and (naturally) since he is the largest company, he certainly has 2.3 million lying around to purchase another 23 generators. Mr. Collier... see Mr. Perdijk's post. btw... I did not say he just got the letter with a two month warning.. I said he received it "this year"... and my friend does not want me to post a copy of the letter as he does not want to be harrassed any more than he already is. Yes Onno, he recently received a one year extension as did you... but so what..? He STILL can't replace them all. I hope you have a hell of a year to replace your Truck(s). I wish you well my friend! And Saul... he has what (until now) is considered STATE OF THE ART Generators... that is why he is the largest in his area.. he HAS the goods! Saul, your post does not ring of callousness but of ignorance. * I thought about posting this in Off Topic but it is NOT Off Topic as it directly affects (our) industry.
  13. Well that's refreshing! You are one of the rare people who make the change without making a 'scene'. Welcome to the boards! ;) As a rule, if you are not getting paid as you work, you won't get paid in the end. So, take the show for experience, for the credit, for the thrill or for any other reason than for pay.. and you'll be fine.
  14. Andre.. don't do anything without a contract... but first.. per the rules of this Forum, go to My Controls and change your screen name to your real first and last name. The Members thank you in advance.
  15. Due to the Obama administration's policy of GOING GREEN..... a good friend of mine who rents movie generators in San Francisco received notice (only this year) that ALL of his generators will have to be replaced by 2010.... :o thus putting him out of business! The producers of the "new clean burning generators... green generators"... can't make them fast enough nor can my friend afford to purchase them during a RECESSION! And to whom can he sell all the equipment that he has so heavily invested in now that his (state of the art) generators have been outlawed? Is the Federal Government going to get into the movie generator rental/ sales business as well? Farmers are getting the same notice.... a farmer that has a back-hoe he uses a couple times a year.. no no.. you can't use that! You gotta buy a new 'green' back-hoe... and good luck getting a loan! Ultimately all this stuff is going to be sold to Mexico where they will run and run (anyway) in Mexico... instead of San Francisco... not to mention all the staff my friend will have to let go. God help us from this insanity! The 'Chicago' Way Video
  16. If you want it to look like the natural light coming thru the window (as you expressed)... the placement of any overhead Lamp will be very important... unless you want it to look like it is lit from an overhead. Frankly, bouncing a Lamp or mounting a Lamp in the ceiling is how most people would light this but I like what you described in your initial post and that (too me) is much more cinematic (and sophisticated) and takes a bit more finesse to achieve, but in my opinion... will look much better! The only way I'd be taping them to the ceiling is if you have 5500k Kino Globes, you could tape one/two to the ceiling above the tub against the mirror wall and butted against the window wall.... this way you can wrap that window light around and into your actors face assuming he/she is looking into the mirror. You won't need to Gel the window and that will allow even more daylight to stream in... you will need to cut it off the wall as not to reveal the source. If it fits your story, I'd recreate what you have pictured.. that is a nice (natural) image. Good Luck!
  17. If you are shooting from the angle you are at in the still (?).... and going by what you described the look to desired.. and you only have small units.. I'd look at gelling the window with just CTO and placing a diffused tungsten Lamp camera left and wrap that natural window light. You can then time the scene warmer or cooler depending on the time of day and feel of the scene. Have Fun with whatever you do!

  20. If you are shooting a Heineken Bottle... GREEN SCREEN is the LAST thing you'll want to do! Blue or Red Screen yes.... Green... no! A piece of foil glued to showcard (cardboard) and cut in the shape of the Bottle and free standing a couple inches behind the Bottle works great... the rest is a nice Soft Wrapping Key... and any specials. However you matte, be ready for some Inferno Work ($) due to contamination.
  21. A good Dolly Grip won't need to do all that.. (he) will maintain the same speed (as humanly possible)... take after take.
  22. What a grossly inaccurate statement... you have not defined what an 'employee' is... you assume all workers are 'union' and you act as if 'nobody' is affected by healthcare because, well, it is a benefit anyway... Have you ever run a business yourself?... I mean a real business?.. or have you always worked for others all the while holding them with spite? I'd bet the latter.
