ADVICE ON EXTERNAL HD FOR FOOTAGE
Christopher Santucci replied to Christopher Frey's topic in General Discussion
The Western Digital Mybook drives are very good and very affordable. The Pro Edition is a triple interface unit with Firewire 800. . -
It's Punch Drunk Love. Here's the original Mattress Man commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGelfTwJWPI Here's a little bonus: .

Try your local musician's union. .

You can wrap yourself and as much of the camera as possible with black velvet or duvatene and try to not shoot with too wide of a lens. .

Urgent Help : PanaHVX201 or Sony EX3???
Christopher Santucci replied to ricardo de gracia's topic in Sony
The EX series is almost double the price of the HVX200. I'm not sure why these are even being compared. . -

Trovato. .

Do yourself a favor and check out eBay for the lowest prices on US HVX200's. I bought 2 US models in the past 9 months each for under $4K from the same seller on eBay. You don't have to buy an HVX200 from an "authorized dealer" to get the exact same camera you'd get from a non-authorized dealer selling a US model. .

I think Richard gave the budget away in another older thread... .

Does HVX200E shoot 24p in 1080i?
Christopher Santucci replied to Ismail Jamaludin's topic in Panasonic
Yeah. And it makes its best image at 1080 24PA. . -
Does HVX200E shoot 24p in 1080i?
Christopher Santucci replied to Ismail Jamaludin's topic in Panasonic
Shoot in 1080 24PA. Don't bother with 720 since it's inferior as compared to 1080 from that camera. . -
Tie-in advice. Recources.
Christopher Santucci replied to Phil Gerke's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
I thought tie-ins were pretty much illegal by now. -
You probably won't find a reversal that's fast enough for what you describe, so you'd have to push whatever IS available as reversal at least a full stop, possibly more. It's risky using reversal and when you're using someone elses lighting, it's even more risky. You could just shoot a roll as a test with reversal and then you'd have a better idea. Also, you could just take a roll of same ISO 35mm slide film in there and shoot some frames just to gauge how reversal at that speed will need to be exposed/processed.
-
Unless you need a specific "reversal look," I would avoid it. Especially if you're doing a digital finish where you can make it look like reversal anyway (if you want to.) Reversal film has about a 4 stop range, while color negative has at least a 10 stop range. If you underexpose reversal or overexpose it by one stop, you will end up with unusable footage. You can overexpose color negative by many stops and still have usable footage, while you could underexpose by a stop or 2 and possibly get away with it. Color negative will work better and look better, also if you're going to transfer the footage to a digital medium.

Determining HMI draw.
Christopher Santucci replied to Phil Gerke's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
Well, the draw is ultimately created by the heads and most electrical devices have tags on them with information printed that shows how much the device requires. And, I'd guess since there is a step up in voltage at the ballast that you are actually drawing less than you normally would for a 120 volt fixture. -
Determining HMI draw.
Christopher Santucci replied to Phil Gerke's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
The formula is P=I x E Which means wattage equals current times voltage, or current equals wattage divided by voltage. As for draw during strike, check on the ballast to see if it's marked or call the manufacturer. -
When nobody on set speaks up
Christopher Santucci replied to Tim O'Connor's topic in General Discussion
Celebrity enough for the national media apparently... -
When nobody on set speaks up
Christopher Santucci replied to Tim O'Connor's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, it's a little different when celebrities as opposed to the regular folks do questionable stuff isn't it? I was on a feature once with a B list actor who unbeknownst to me was manhandling female interns and PAs to the point where one intern quit and went home in tears. The actor was known for that type of behavior and was never dealt with as he should have been either during or after. If I had been one of the 15 people who stood there and watched that idiot golfer fire golf balls at a bird, I don't think I would have cared about losing work for standing up to him. -
You'll need handgrips for the rods and possibly a shoulder pad. I got mine from Cavision. As far as the adapter goes, you might want to look at Letus and SG pro also. The M2 hasn't been upgraded in a while and it's generally considered to be softer than the ones I mentioned even though it's built well. The Letus offers less light loss than the M2 and SG pro. Oh also, the price for the SG pro is lower than the M2.

opinion on this "contract" for talent?
Christopher Santucci replied to Tim O'Connor's topic in Off Topic
There are talent contracts and deal memos all over the internet. I don't understand why someone would not use a standard form and rework it as needed rather than come up with something like that. It looks real sketchy and definitely is full of holes legally. -
Any East coast USA grip manufacturers?
Christopher Santucci replied to JD Hartman's topic in Grip & Rigging
I recently discovered Advantage Gripware and I'm really happy with them. -
The Cinelike settings are definitely flatter than Black Press.
