  1. Here are a couple of Tri-X stills developed as negative from a music video I shot. Thanks to Justin for his blog, and Sebastjan at Niagara. (interiors were pushed 2 stops, exteriors were developed as normal), I will give the video an official thread later. I am waiting for it to play at a couple festivals first. For those of you attending the Salford Film Festival 11/22, it will being showing as part of the Super 8 in a Digital World event
  2. Super good work, top quality. i agree on the black levels, however it applies in the very dark scenes. The normal lit scenes levels seem fine. Is that sample "check it, to wreck it" a sample from Funkdoobiest? I haven't heard them forever... :)
  3. Looks fantastic all around. I especially liked the interiors with the girl and the dress, shooting through the lace, or curtains or whatever was going on there. Truly superb. It looks like all available light too.
  4. Solid advice George. Years ago, an industry insider told me, "if you want to earn a living in hollywood, you are better off with an MBA than an MFA". I think he may have been referring to moving into the production side of the house, but like you say ... so many of the concepts overlap.
  5. I think with some cameras you will see a few flashed frames between takes. Possibly the film is getting up to speed. My Nautica does this. Either way, the first second or so is not really usable. But all my other cameras seem to be fine right from when you press the trigger.
  6. Bauer makes a slide mount for their cameras, you just put the lens in Macro and shoot away.
  7. 1 -3 is correct. I've used 1) for super8 and 2) for 16mm/S16 and 3) never really used a pilotone. note that syncing by sliding around in Final Cut can be very time consuming. At least it has been for me at times. As far as 1 (finding a place in AU) I don't know. And 2 if you were to film at 18fps and playback at 24 it would introduce more motion blur, not less. the individual frames are being exposed slightly longer, thus smearing the image slightly.
  8. I've been flagged at London Heathrow flying back to the States with undeveloped footage. I had to go to a room, and they waved these magic wands around the cans to make sure it wasn't anything bad. I told them it was film, and they didn't open it.
  9. Once you have your demo reel in place, you probably are going to want to look into the following path; A business plan is just that. It describes the market conditions and how you believe your product will fair in the marketplace. It can't really be used as an investment vehicle, unless you have a coupe of active investors deeply involved in the project. If you are looking for multiple passive investors (those who have nothing to do with production side of things), then you'll probably want to prepare a PPM securities disclosure agreement. Which basically details where the money will go and how the individual investors will get paid. These are regulated by the SEC and sometimes state governing agencies, so you'll want to consult with an entertainment lawyer. You will probably want to setup your business as an LLC to limit your liability as an individual, as well... Sorry if I really didn't address the question at hand, but I think this may be the direction you are going...
  10. This does not look like a swindle at all. You are unproduced. If you decide to go with it, that is completely up to you. But do seek out the advice of an entertainment lawyer (you may make a life-long connection, I've been introduced to people through an ent. lawyer). 2.5% is pretty normal, oh and try and get your floor to be the WGA minimum, if possible.
  11. I remember all the colors being shifted too. Like all the prints turned red/magenta. I am of the age where I saw 16mm in elementary school and by middle/high school it was VHS as well. I bought up a bunch and showed them at a movie night I hosted. It was a blast.
  12. Thanks! I shot all tri-x in San Jose del Cabo, figuring it would retain a type of old time aesthetic. The intro was one roll of plus-x, the Nautica doesn't meter for it correctly (or at least not in my experience), resulting in a very grainy high contrast image.
  13. Attached is a copy of my Los Cabos - Travelogue submitted to "Your Trip" on the Travel Channel. The footage was all shot in and around Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. A lot of questions have come up regarding E64T and the Eumig Nautica, whether you can shoot it underwater, how it exposes, if you should use the PMA adapter. The underwater footage attached was shot with the PMA stacked on top of a Hoya 85b filter. Here is a direct link (I've noticed it streams better when the video is fully loaded) http://yourtrip.travelchannel.com/clip.asp...&type=video Enjoy,
  14. Sounds like it did flood. Maybe just a few drops. Then when you took it out of the water the temperature change caused condensation, therefore clouding up the viewfinder. If in fact it is just in the viewfinder your images should be fine? But the clouding could have occurred on the back element as well? how would you know? Try shooting a test and framing with the paralex attachment. To fix, you will need to have your camera serviced. Bolex in Switzerland does this, as well as others. I've worked with them and found them very helpful, but they are not cheap. regards,
  15. E&O is generally (if not always) required by distributors. If you plan on distributing yourself, thats an option. However if find out, they can send a cease and desist to you and if you don't comply they can sue you... So it's a terrible business practice to follow. You have no protection in the eyes of the law, it is not fair use, and you do not own the right to display their performance / likeness / or voice performances. Plus the likelihood of selling the film to anyone is non-existent, no company would want to take on the risk, considering you never cleared the rights.
  16. So far, USA and UK viewers have successfully been able to view.
  17. I logged out and was still able to see it, it is right below the title. Try clicking here, its a direct link. http://www.imdb.com/video/wab/vi1709637913/
  18. Please visit the IMDb page for my 2007 super 8 short, There May Be Pleasure, and check out my newly uploaded trailer. I was contacted by IMDb, last week offering to host either my film or a trailer as part of a pilot for their new IMDb Theaters initiative. As the film has a distribution deal with Ouat! Media, we opted for a just for a web trailer. 19. the third man... click here for the scene
  20. Not sure? But I'll throw out a couple guesses. Field order was set the the wrong setting (odd/even), or it was something in how you handled interlacing / de-interlacing? Oh, or 23.96 vs 24 vs 29.97 vs 30fps maybe? I liked the piece too, very cool.
  21. Some great ones were already mentioned, I have a couple from Japan, both freeze frames. Sword of Doom (1966) & Yakuza Papers: Battles Without Honor and Humanity part 1 (1973), both after 400 Blows mind you ...
  22. That makes sense, I forgot the blue layer is more sensitive (ie faster), and the difference is made up. Remember your balance will be a couple hundred kelvin off. Which really isn't a big deal, like I said before, I had to have them add a lot of red in telecine to make a usable image.
  23. If you set it to Daylight, won't it meter for ASA 25 (ie 40/25 160/100)? thus over exposing 2/3rds of a stop? That is why the 85b / tungsten mode works. Because the camera thinks the film is 40 ASA Tungsten but really is it 64T brought down to 40 ASA through use of the external filter.
  24. I just use one from Hoya, its not all that thin, but I've had no trouble with the PMA on top of it. Like it doesn't throw off the focus or anything.
