  1. In a pinch I've used a decorators' mirror about a foot square under a tap with a 650W profile/ zoomspot bounced off it.
  2. Clicked 'My Controls' Clicked 'Edit Avatar Settings' Browsed to image file Clicked 'Update Avatar' If there's a color wheel to the left there, then it worked. Is it different for Basic Members than Sustaining Members? NB It seems the avatar pic is not the same as the personal photo
  3. Does anyone know how to get chocolate sauce out of bedsheets?
  4. The Lee 'Designer Series' swatch book includes the whole range, but is only that inch by four. The 'Glass Series' swatch book is three by four inches. It's much less comprehensive, covering only straight color gels, but you're not going to white-balance through black scrim or ND frost are you. And they're both free.
  5. Longest day I've ever done was 25 hrs on a !$%#%^#$ theatre show (I'm not overly fond of theatre), lighting and set rigging. 8am arrival and didn't leave until 9am the next day, with two half hour meal breaks. Made more than a week's pay that night though. The ridiculous set was designed by some shiny-bum (someone who spends all day sitting down) and they thought it would be really cool to clad the whole structure in metal sheeting. Including a solid ceiling. A whole 40ft semi trailer full of just this one touring set. Someone else drove me home.
  6. I'll bash open (suspect it's a hammer job) one of my batterys and check what's inside. Have a spare battery shell I'm going to recell, so I need to do this anyway. Will email or post pics if you like.
  7. Gasp..never heard of Tiffen? I think you should get rid of that tagline buddy.
  8. A vintage strobe that uses electrolytic capacitors instead of the polypropylene(?) power factor caps that most current strobes are using will give you a much longer flash. The ESR (equivalent series resistance) of electros is much higher, meaning they can't dump their whole charge anywhere near as fast, hence the longer flash. Regarding the DMX idea - it would be far simpler to build a synced strobe from scratch than try to turn DMX into a useful timebase. Most lighting desks are smart enough that they will only transmit the last channel with data greater than zero, so the actual frame (DMX frame, not film frame) time is usually much shorter than all 512 channels. However there are disco strobes with 'remote' or 'audio' trigger inputs, which are pretty easy to interface with. One more item on the ever growing to-do list is a 'gen-lockable' strobe sync-box.
  9. The all-new http://ProductionSoundForum.com might get you closeer to an answer, but I suspect the answer is 'tough'. I think you'll have to take Phil's suggestion of riding the levels of each track the whole way through.
  10. I don't like stupid movies, or funny movies, or movies with lots of boobies. Put them all together though...and I still don't like them.
  11. So..um...how is a still going to tell us anything?
  12. Regarding Ultra16 - Matt (Pacini) was going to convert one of his cameras. I'm thinking of converting my CP16R for an upcoming project to post on HD, and of course I'd rather have widescreen in-camera rather than crop in post. If you're there Matt I'd like to hear about it.
  13. Heck, that nearly had me fall off my chair laughing.
  14. Blackmagic have a very cheap SDI IO card - the Decklink Probably as cheap as a converter would be.
  15. PWM amps are becoming more common in professional (as in sound reinforcement) active subs due to the big efficiency increase over traditional linear amps, and the weight savings, and the cheapness. I have to fix the bastards when they break. At the low end of the spectrum fidelity is not anywhere near so critical, hence the sub part.
