  1. Just back from watching this in IMAX 3D laser projection . I now want to see it in 2D on a large screen. I loved the film , Dan Mindel ASC,BSC has done a fantastic job with the Cinematography it looks stunning , thats all I am going to say for now .
  2. David is correct Stephen Murphy is a BAFTA member so that how he has already seen it.
  3. I have just booked for the 11th Jan. at Odeon Leicester Square London . Stephen Murphy watched this last week in Ultra Panavision 70 . I can not say just how impressed he is with it in all departments .
  4. I really hope it gets lots of nods in this awards season .Maybe the best film I have seen this year .
  5. Dom I was 25 when I watched it on a huge 70mm Screen and as you say that space ship opening was amazing the sound the picture was something never seen before !
  6. I went for Dinner at David Watkins house just me and him . He had turned down Star Wars because it had to many shots at sea ! He didn't like working at sea . He said to if he had met me two weeks earlier I could have down the sea stuff ! and he would have taken the job and stayed safe and dry at Elstree . I never saw that script so if anyone here did can they confirm that it was set on a water planet ? This would have been in 1974/75.
  7. David Watkin was also asked and turned it down .
  8. Yes he did spend loads of time in prep and then shooting not so sure how long he spent on post. The thing is his films never really cost tons of money , small crews the same people he worked with over many years . Adjusting for inflation "2001" must have been his most expensive film .
  9. Just imagine how many 8x10 Reversal Ektachrome plates must have been to taken to get the perfect exposure to then been front projected on to the very large screen used on that set !.
  10. I have never seen that still with the Todd-AO camera and Bug Eye lens thanks .
  11. Maybe but I think it would have been easier to shoot everything in the same format .I don't know wish I did hope someone else knows .
  12. Interesting a Mitchell BFC 65mm which sort of confirms that Todd-AO lenses were used on this .And then on the high shot with the 2 x 10K's a Panavision 65 mm .
  13. It has just be re=released today here a 4K showing in some Cinemas . I remember taking my Mother to the Empire Leicester Sq when it first opened a 70mm presentation shot Panavision 35mm anamorphic but a fantastic blow up done by MGM labs Culver City one of the best ever I had seen until " The Wind and the Lion " a good few years later that looked really stunning !
  14. Just watched first 3 episodes great idea and production values ,looks nice.
  15. "The Charge of the Light Brigade" 1967 is another fantastic example of David's years ahead of anyone else soft lighting .
  16. So when can we expect the remake of Citizen Kane with who ever is the current flavour of the month ?
  17. I have just watched "Dirty Harry" again 40+ years old 100asa film Panavision anamorphic fantastic night scenes only the areas you need to see for the story are lit backgrounds still have practicals such as street lights Not like now where night scenes are so over lit sometimes it looks like a day shot .
  18. Ok the story was full of holes ,but I really don't understand all this negative thing about how it looked !!!
  19. I support 100% what Tyler says ! Get off your arse and look what has been made in the past and maybe learn something !!
  20. Sorry to say but I do have a bit of inside and yes it is Alexa 65 . Sorry I feel as bad as you about it . Along with a lot of other Cinematographers and the BSC and the two labs that that process and transfer film to 4K plus Kodak we are trying very hard to keep film an option !
  21. Think you will find the Planet of Apes film is being shot with the Alexa 65 , not film .
  22. Yes more film use the better !! But this has been sold as a big film thing if turns out to be a pile of Shite it will be another nail in the coffin for the use of film .My big worry !
  23. Just to point out it's Ultra Panavision 70. I agree I think this is going to be bad ! Think it is going to be waste of shooting 65mm film , don't know for sure but looks like mostly interiors with to much dialogue waste of Ultra Panavision . And for me Samuel L Jackson is a good reason not to watch a film !!
  24. Having just watched "Spectre" on a very large IMAX screen all can say this a beautiful shot film , the majority shot on film looks fantastic the Thames night scenes at the end of the film blend in without any problem ! This is a great Bond film loved it .
