  2. i did think that thinking was long gone , Do remember Hiro Narita A.S.C wasnt allowed by Paramount to use Agfa 320 on "The Rocketeer" but was a long time ago , glad to say dont seem to have such a problem over here . John Holland London.
  3. David , why did Warners need convincing on your choice of Fuji ? . John Holland ,London.
  4. This movie hasnt been released here yet , but have heard / read that a lot of pov. running shots weredone using 16mm cameras ! . Seems that people who have been argueing about shutter angles etc , couldnt tell that it had been shot on 16mm. doesnt say a lot for Genesis as far as i am concerned . John Holland. London.
  5. Yes Max you are so right , shouldnt matter what format you use . One should be able to compose good images in any format , but "Scope " is the best . And i mean Anamorphic . wish some of the people who post on here would spend a bit of time looking at well shot films includes just looking and taking how things are lit !. John Holland . London.
  6. Hi think you really have lost the plot , making movies is mostly about cheating , if this story of yours was set on the Sun , happy to go there and kill the crew , just as long as equipment is not damaged !!! . John Holland , London/
  7. Hi are sure he said 3 stops over , i am all for over exposing max 2 stops me .Anyway Conrad Hall did get an Oscar for it think it it is a beautiful film , went to cinema everyday for a week to just look at images . By the way its George Roy Hill , the director of this picture .
  8. Phil, me neither never mentioned 500 stock , most of that stuff was shot using 50/ 100asa stock . John Holland , London.
  9. And rest was Super 16mm, and some 35mm, bye the the way film is hi-def , there is no thing as special hi-def film stock , shouldnt belive what you read on backs of DVD boxes . John Holland , London.
  10. No havent a clue ,but why bother ??? . Not anyway best WW 2 , with terrible effects , Gil Taylor B.S.C had his hand in those . Make something original please fed up with remakes . John Holland ,London.
  11. For goodness sake ,the punters dont give poop about "bokeh " and to be honest nor do i , just want a great story , great acting and nice well lit pics . john Holland ,London.
  12. David , did tests with Watkin in Spain as an A/C for " Robin and Marion 5274 , at that time it was the pits , i think we called it red ,green fashover .Red faces and really bad green shadows , and terrible latitude . Watkin i know really did push any the stock to its limits ,but had serious trouble with this one . Just compare it to The Three.Musketeers , 5254. same lab ,Technicolor London. John Holland. London.
  13. Sorry to be boring ,said this so many times on here , 5251 50 asa and then the best 5254 100asa and [The Most ]important thing is when high speed neg and higher temp process was bought in , for Kodaks wonder stock 5274 , which then took about 3 years to get right. So many pics shot in the States at that time and to here to a lesser extent , looked really bad. There was a bit of revolution here {UK] lead by Mr Unsworth and Watkin . Kodak then got there arse into gear ,but it took a vey long time .So main reason David Watkin shot loads of his films using Agfa neg . Sorry for the rant . John Holland ,London.
  14. Stephen , yes and doesnt it look great !! . John Holland.
  15. Yes i think you are right , but people seem so scared to shoot wide open nowadays. John Holland ,London.
  16. Have to agree with most of your comments about "Torchwood" also has some very weird "video look " on panning and tracking shots , can anyone explain this to me ? John Holland ,London.
  17. Hi yes he is great cinematogapher , but i thought "The Aviator " was the a great let down , S/35 and Di was poop , he is a guy who knows how to use Anormorphic , shame it wasnt used on this film . John Holland ,London.
  18. Hi ,no not 65mm, it was shot 35mm. John Holland ,London.
  19. How about a 5k tunsten fresnal with lens removed , might still be able to hang blinds in front of lamp , depends on if you can power the 5k and reduces your shots as the lamp is in the room ! . John Holland , London
  20. I also have never owned a colour temp meter . Never seemed an important thing to own , why do you think you need one ? John Holland ,London.
  21. So David , were happy with the end result of "opticals " being done DI ? afraid the film didnt have a wide release here , so not able to see it on a big screen , prob. not be able to notice anything on a DVD. John Holland , London.
  22. My main problem with CGI is its over use , if used to add a touch to scene that would not possible to do in real time or life thats fine with me , my teenage children "say thats done on a computer " all the time now without any prompting from me , so we have lost the "Magic , which is very sad . John Holland, London.
  23. I agree , also VX people like S35 rather than Anamorphic , it make life easier for them , so we suffer a loss of quality, because of digital fx kids . John Holland, London.
  24. I thought this section of this site was about Cinematographers ????????????? . No F - - - ing shoes. John Holland , London .
