  1. Hi James, firstly please add you full name its one of the rules on this forum. 3D: 3d is a really difficult thing to master if your new to it a few tips are. Using IBL (image based lighting) that means at every live action shoot u need to capture a 360 panorama in HDR so around 3-6 stops for every photo. Then this can be used in your 3d package for your lighting and environment. I recommend VRAY for your rendering. And using 3dsmax but It all depends on what your doing. Best realism really comes down to two thing "mostly" - Lighting - Textures!!! this a extreme but on the Dark Knight they used 18K textures for some models Compositing: If your willing to learn the best to go with NUKE or NUKEX These are great 32bit float suites, Nuke was originally developed by Digital Domain back in the day, there now one of the top VFX groups. If not use after effects. All this is very advanced stuff your better of learning bits and pieces over a few months and finding people in your community that are already learning this stuff like at a university who are willing to help you, But obviously I don't know your full situation.
  2. That's pretty much it, the image colors look milky trying lifting your white and black points. If it's what David said you'll need to look into changing your gamma space, hit it with a log lut, I would imagine?
  3. Cheers, I'll run some test's once I receive my new roll's :)
  4. In terms of refraction, can I shoot nice clean image's at 90mm f22 on 645, I know on 35mm they say don't go to f22, ideal is f16 does that change for medium format? The lens can go upto f32 and the other lens f42
  5. I do agree film is film 24fps magic. It's the movement at 24fps that creates the illusion of disbelief, But I think people like jc are tryin to push for this ultra real experience. I heard the 70mm 48fps looks amazing. Can't say from for myself tho
  6. I could point out all the problems with the film but instead ill leave it at, "emotional journey" or lack there off. I did like some of the scenes at the end (not to say it had a good ending) the operation scene was my fav.
  7. Hi Josh, Remember if your filming DOF is a big issue you don't want those import moment's to be out of focus, So you want a wider angle lens but not too wide so that everything looks fisheye. But I thing i realized is that's all good but when your too far away you either have to switch lenses or my recommendation would be get something like a 18-110 or something along those lines, but don't go crazy with the zooms,
  8. http://www.scribd.com/doc/14506019/Sample-Invoice something like that can give you a example you'll probably need to list expenses, time, rates, issuance anything you can think of look to your union for advice as well, I couldn't find anything on ASC but that's because there private so we can't really know maybe David Mullen ASC can help. Also don't do it in word I found a really great online website that can generate customs ones for you and keep track of all your activities etc. for you there's a few websites out there that can do similar
  9. Hi Freya I think It's real at least for the most part, It does look a bit off place but I think it's the keylight(helicopter) that make's it look fake, If you look at the last scene a camera projection like that would of been out of there budget (IMHO) as usually it would of cut just before the camera comes up past the roof, but cause it keeps going that would require Allot more work or to be real, Don't know if that helps
  10. haha I like the BC thing. I believe there in the US
  11. Found this for anyone interested They do Motion picture film processing for still http://www.ecn-2.com/
  12. Thanks guys, Travis if you can find out that would be great please, I have a Mamiya RB67 Pro-s with a bulk magazine so It could shoot around 200ft of 65mm looks like a mini IMAX camera haha, I think I might just experiment with a few rolls use it for artsy stuff not for professional work.
  13. Too much Russel crow for my liking lol, he forgot that one with leo and Russel "body of lies", im sure he'll make a cameo :P haha I like most his films.
  14. Hey guys, Iv'e got about 2000ft of Vision 3 at home and since im a film photographer as well I was thinking I might just use it for photography. If my maths right that's 470 rolls, around 16941 frames, whats a bargain considering I payed only $200 for the film. I know you can cross process but how hard would it be to source the equipment and to develop it properly, is it worth the trouble, any tuts?
  15. So technically you can go lower than F 1 but then does that mean T 1 would be 100% light? if the T relation is how much light is actually passing through the lens
  16. Does anyone know what kelvin the light bulbs inside Telecine machines are?
  17. http://carltonbale.com/1080p-does-matter/ http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html http://s3.carltonbale.com/distance_chart.html those should answer your question
  18. I really want to see that film, but my guess is end of this year there only doing the Australian premier now so still a while I think:(
  19. Its reboot/prequel and sequel season, where all the studios either have run out of idea's which I doubt or one did it and now there all following to compete, even 21 jump street references that there just recycling old material and feeding it to the unaware population what I thought was funny especially since the audience still didn't get it haha .I do think people are starting to catch on this finally what makes me mad casue ive been going on about this since last year arrrgh lol And this could just be my wacky conspiracy idea :P but I think the indie market has expanded significantly since this has started look at how many big stars are doing indie films possibly cause there sick of the same old crap. enjoy these lists: http://www.imdb.com/list/WUNCarSomaM/ http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/450292/75_movie_remakes_and_reboots_currently_in_the_works.html but yep ur right to soon
  20. I'm kind of finding hard to tell what your asking But i think Gregory covered most of it but from what I can tell you would want to shoot your actor on a green screen and shoot bg plates, with each character and or object shot as separate plates so you can have more control when composting, you want the character be at normal speed then just shoot him at 24fps and the rest at 300fps, could try even shooting your character at 30 or 40 and then slowing back down to 24 just so he doesn't seem so out of place, but that's just a thought
  21. Hi Freya as far as I've been told it's not scope. So it would look similar to this image http://i.ytimg.com/vi/NHI65K1Akao/0.jpg Black bars inside of each 4perf frame. Because HD would be 1920x850~ 2k should be around 2100x1080
  22. Hi, I need some one who has good experience. I'm doing a scan of a 35mm trailer for my friend, there's no Oneg to work with. Can someone check my forumala. MTFlens x MTFnegative x MTFi.p x MTFo.p x MTFprint Based on late 90's stock's and equipment I estimate the resolution would be around 1k or 2k would you get a HD scan or 2k scan The Format is: 35mm 4 perf Aspect ratio: 2.35 Print year: 1997
  23. I thought you might be interested I asked some one about that at event cinema's always thought they were 2k "Hi Paul Vmax is currently serviced by a 2K projector, however we do have several 4k projectors in other theatres in the complex. Vmax is shortly due to be upgraded to 4K quality, however this has been delayed somewhat due to the limited availability of 4K product to screen through these newer projectors. Kind Regards #####"
  24. I was just working on this same problem not long ago. You can use software called Vuescan that outputs to RAW which off course is not real RAW but it does leave you with a undefined color space and then you could batch convert say in Photoshop to 32-bit EXR
