  1. Hi; I would not leave out Plus X B&W reversal, it's ideal for S8, fine grained and sharp with great contrast, it's the B&W partner to 7285 100D colour reversal.... Also, even though I'd love 7201 in S8, in the Beggars can't be choosers scenario were in 7217 rated at 64t with a W85 filter is probably not too far from 7201. It seems the 7285 100D colour reversal is more likely to happen and this at least is a BIG positive, I've also been reading that it should actually work better with the auto asa cams than the 64t did? Olly
  2. Hi; Thanks John, I must say I'd rather the 7285 and It certainly seems this is echoed by the majority of people using the format, judging from the major film forums at least. Olly
  3. Hi; Bummer, any news on the 7285 reversal? Olly
  4. Hi; I agree with David on this, Asking Kodak to produce smaller rolls of S8 is like trying to get an oil tanker to make tight turns, With S8 it's more a beggars can't be choosers scenario unfortunately, just portion out a part of a cart for a test and then save the rest for something else, this is the brilliant thing about the cart system. Come on kodak 7201 and 7285 in S8 please.... Olly
  5. Hi; In the UK 16mm is probably the favourite music video format. Olly
  6. Hi; Andy, the old visa details across two sepperate emails from preferably two sepperate email accounts trick... They seem very used to this method and although a bit funky it works, just give them half the info etc on one and the other half on the other and make it all very CLEAR whats what. I used the online order form to actually make the order which keeps things simple. Olly
  7. Hi; Andy, I ordered some S8 50D around mid june but waited on payment and have had zero response, I kinda get the feeling they're still trading but are sinking under the weight of unexpected orders, seems slightly insane to be taking out large adds in Small format etc when you can't handle the orders. Wittner on the other hand responded quickly to my 100D order. Good luck Olly
  8. Hi; Cool! much like Eric Edwards did for My Own Private Idaho... I would just love that, Good luck and enjoy it. Olly
  9. Hi; I've never used a Beaulieu but I use a Leicina Special and can safely say it helps to make super 8 look all together a different animal to the soft and jittery stuff I used to think it was, of course it can't save you from bad work but we all know that dont we. Olly
  10. Hi; I very recently ordered 5 carts of their re- packaged 7285 S8 and had immediate responce and very good service! Olly
  11. Hi; Chris, mind if I ask who and where your getting the sync work done on your 6080? Cheers: Olly Hi; Spares......? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAUN-NIZO-6080-SUPE...1QQcmdZViewItem Olly

    Lens mounts

Hi; I sure did, it was a tad pricey but I must say it's amazing, I'm more excited about what I can do with super 8 than any other format right now and I shoot a fair bit of S16. S8 shot with the Leicina and Cinegon has such a solid sharp look but still has the character and personal touch of classic S8. I have also been very impressed by the 6-66 Optivaron zoom, also a great lens it seems. Olly
  13. Hi; Thanks for sharing this, very interesting. I use the Widescreen-centre's flash scan 8 sytsem quite often but I would never dare ask them to transfer neg and actually have to grade it, they are just a bunch of nice fellas with a decent little machine, not colorists by any stretch. I've found however that using them for reversal transfer where I've worked hard on building 99% of my look into the stock has yielded very decent results, despite what some may say neg is strictly for pro colorists with Ranks and Ursas to play with, hence the cost which really makes neg super 8 in the UK a tough decision when as you say shooting S16 is around the same if not cheaper in the end! On a positive though since re-discovering S8 reversal these last few years and how to make it look it's best I've made so much more personal works on film instead of DV. Olly
  14. So if you've ever thought of visiting Los Angeles you might want to combine your super-8 work projects and vacation all in one. Hi; Ahh what a lovely idea Olly

    Lens mounts

Hi; Well I sure see a difference between the cinegon on my Leicina and the zoom on my Nizo.... Olly
  16. Hi; I've had some reversal transfered on the Flashscan 8 and was very impressed, I've had S8 transfered on Rank and Ursa before and this was arguably as good for best light stuff (probably scientificaly not quite as good but to my eyes.....) I'd like to see some neg results as dirt could be a problem. Olly
  17. Also if your planning to use something like a Bolex EBM in your test remember the camera and the lens will be 30 years older than an HD camera, which doesn't make for a very fair comparison for film. Hi; True but the box is just the box really, if it's well serviced and maybe has a PL mount adapter it should be great, it's the film stock that is the HD sensor of the film world. Olly
  18. Hi; Not noticed this myself, sure your not mistaking it for the beaulieu? I recall hearing about this with one of the models.... Olly
  19. Hi; Well if you shoot the neg stocks it's the same with more grain. I started with K40 S8 then went to 16 and super 16 but have recently really got back into S8 since it was revived by new stocks, I love the texture. I'd say look at the higher end cams Leicina etc as stability can be an issue, also manual ASA, however I really think well shot S8 neg stocks are more than a match for dv/hdv in terms of sheer quality. 20. Hi; Just got back my 1st two rolls, I shot the first 30 secs with only the in camera filter inplace, then I threw on a 1.5R warming filter (a VERY subtle orange) The difference was very clear, without it was a little cold and blue, with filter it was.... well warmer and richer, I will be using the warming filter in future for this stock. Must say after the dismal reports I thought this stock was actually not bad at all! Although it was the 1st rolls I'd shot with my Leicina Special so that could have something to do with it ;) Olly
  21. Hi; I would kill for this on my bolex REX-5 (13x eyepiece) I'm sick of gaffa tape..... Olly
  22. Hi; Different strokes... I like the sepperate motor as I can strip the camera back down to a little clockwork mos cam for shooting on the road, what you say makes perfect sence for what you do. I think for someone who intends to use the camera for anything from crystal sync narrative to clockwork pick up shots and timelapse the REX-5's and SBM's a far more versatile. Olly
  23. Hi; It screws into the side of the body and is powered by a 12v battery. Olly
