  1. Hi Cristian K3 is a very nice reflex camera to start with no budget. By far, the lower price you can find. With M42, you can fit easily a 8mm peleg, an incredible wide lens. Meteor zoom is very good lens, and possible to focus at 1m with a diopter. And a good 24 or 28mm is handy for focus very closely. I got mine 28mm Pentacon for 5€ in a flea market. You can easily upgrade it to super16 just widenig the gate. Just forget widenig viewfinder. In this case, you have to use SLR lenses : a good set would be 8mm Peleng (F/3.5), 16mm Zenitar (f/2.8), 24mm Kiron (f/2) 35mm and 50mm Pentacon. And Pentax, of course, with more money. Many tele you can fit. Anyway, you HAVE to get off loop formers, a very easy operation to do (video on NCS site and ond different youtube and others). Have fun and don't forget Foma 100R, just great with the special yellow/green filter in all K3 set ! Have fun, Philippe (France)
  2. Thanks everybody for so many answers. I will try ASAP. Of course it is better to know how to load a magazine, BUT B&H 50' magazine are VERY special ones, very little and quite uncomfortable to load. In fact, i have seen a big black charging box with a IR camera in it at a military base where missiles were filmed by high speed cameras. And, of course, somme problems of jamming, I suppose... But I was wondering if it would be very special military camera, or standard. So, I will buy a cheap IR led camera, and see what happen... In case it's easy to do, B&H 50' magazine cameras could be a poor man Ikonoscop...!
  3. Hi everybody, Just as said in the tittle, i was wondering if loading 50' B&H magazines under infrared camera is possible without causing damage to the film ? B&H magazines are very special and very difficult to load it without looking just a bit... I poligise for my poor english. Philippe
  4. Hi Philip, Yes, I intend to make a little blog one day (the only thing I'm able to do...) about my two favorites movie cameras i'm currently using : Filmo 70DR and Krasnogorsk K3. Many little tips could be usefull, just like DIY modifying turret central screw for being able to fit modern lenses... I would be happy to receive tips too...
  5. I poligise I forgot this post after a time with no answer. Some rushes are about to be processed by Florent at the the very new Bioskoplab in south of France. As soon as I can get a decent telecine, I will try to show something shot with the 70DR. At that time, I stopped planning on Autoload, because I would want to build a charging box with infrared camera inside. Because it seems difficult to load in blindness.
  6. <<<Anyway, I have it on my website as an H.264 in a <video> tag, so make sure you look at it in a browser that supports that codec for HTML 5. K-3/Vision 3 500T Test It seems that it doesn't work for me. Don't see nothing. What do I have to do ?
  7. Fixing the problem was very simple, in fact : critical focus has a small screww inside, so you can adapt to your own eyes... Work absolutely fine at this time. Wonderful camera !
  8. At a time, there was a store called "Java photo/java cycle". After a little research, it seems it does'nt exist anymore. But you can find B/H 16mm magazine at this kind of link (there is currently on Ebay) : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5-KODAK-PLUS-X-16MM-MAGAZINE-FILM-TESTED-/200401334532?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ea8d9b104 I bought a lot of 5, never used at this time, but it seemed to be fine. I just intend to build a black box (like a charging bag) with a infra red camera inside, juste to be comfortable when loading it. These camera used to be fine, don't forget jean Rouch performed his movie "Jaguar" (and a lot more) just with a B/H filmo autoload, a 25mm and 1'20 magazines. As you can see here : Long life to hyperfocal !
  9. You can find magazines on Ebay, currently with B/W. If you open a new one, you will understand how to load it again. It is only two perf and not too easy to load, but it's possible. And these cameras are so little... Poligise for my poor english.
  10. Hi there, I just glanced at "bh_filmo70." and Yahoo home page told me that it doesn't no longer exist... Perhaps gone to another corner of the great net ? It was a nice usefull little site, with a lot of info in there. By the way, a special B&H entry would be nice here too. So, if anybody knows anything...? For my own, I got two, a Filmo 70DR just as new and some incredibly little Autoload, very handy and cheap with a wide lens. And the 70 shutter is opened at a 1/40, very usefull with 500 ISO and a f1,3, for just no money...
  11. Thanks Stephen, Yes, this thread is interesting. To be more precise, image can be properly focused a little bit before infinity (as far as I can see in the focusing device). And I noticed that I was clearly focused on 0,7/0,8 m for objects that were at about 2 meters (with the Cosmicar 12,5 mm). So it is clear there is a problem. I don't think that the turret had been changed on this camera, or something else modifyed. And camera seem pretty new. Lenses are OK. Of course I can burn a test roll, but I suppose what I can expect. I suppose rather than this focusing device has been shiftted off. So I can buy one of these Bell n'Howell repair manuals available on Ebay. If it is simple to fix. Or I send the whole marvel to "the great man", but who? As far as Visual Products can fix B&H Filmo (it doesn't seem so on their site), it is far from France. Great Britain would be less expensive. Anyway that's not the point, but the man who can fix it, or the best way to do it myself, if anybody think it is simple to do. Really don't know what is the best to do.
  12. Help, everybody! I bought a nice Filmo on ebay, I gently modified (reduced) the central screw which holds the turret to fit nice new C-mount lens (they are a bit larger) and now I see I cannot focus properly on infinite. When I set the lens on "infinite", it is not perfect with my Cooke 75mm, a little more bad with the Cooke 25mm, and definetely crappy with the Computar 12,5. I don't thik modification of central srew is for nothing in this problem. Turret is on her good place, with no more problems after than before. All these lenses focuse properly with my Beaulieu super8, so I suppose the focusing Filmo device is shifted a little. Anybody knows if I can fix it by myself, of who can fix it and where ? With a lot of light, hyperfocal will supply proper focus, but I bought this marvellous "just as new" Filmo to film in very low light (1/40° sec. with f/1,4, who say better ?) like in old romance churches and so on, so I need to focus very precisely...
  13. Hi everybody, I was looking for an "how to load a bell howell magazine" topic around here. There is one here (http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/lofiversion/index.php?t6473.html) but unfortunately the links are off now. Anybody know another link ? My "new" Bell Howell 200 turret seems to be a nice jewel, but I have no fresh food for her...
  14. By the way, my Beaulieu is on sale. A pure jewel, in a perfect state : my camera Beaulieu 6008S digital (n° C7304082) + objectif Angénieux f/1,4 6-90 (n° 1478769) Little been used, quasi new state, no scratches, impeccable lens, revised at ATR (Paris) especially for the sale (invoice n°3576). Very stable run, easy to quartz, focusing on the totality of the groudglass, digital image counter. If somedy look for it...
  15. Hi Jean-Louis, Thanks a lot for your suggestion. Of course I thought to this kind of problem. As far as I remember, C-mount lenses can be used on CS-mount with 5mm adapter ring, but CS doesn't fit C-mount anyway. The problem is more simple to say, and impossible to solve. When focused to infinity, the rear lens element goes back longer than the C-mount standard allows. So it goes back as far to touch the camera body and cannot focus propely. So this good deal IS NOT a good deal with a Filmo or a Beaulieu 6008S. With Bolex or 16mm Beaulieu, I don't know. Anyway, with this kind of lens, (I got a 12,5 Cosmicar too), I have to change the central turret screw, because it too large, and that touch against the periphery of the lens. Good nice little Filmo, but mind the lenses !!!!!
  16. Hi everybody, I bought a nice Carl Zeiss Tevidon 25mm/f:1,4 (n° 13617) to fit my "new" Filmo 70DR (without any lens). Ebay link is : http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...N:IT&ih=002 It is C-mount, so i see i can focus on the little focusing device of the Filmo. BUT it does not focus to infinity, as far as I can see. Focusing ring was a little bit hard at the first time, but seems smooth now, but perhaps doesn't go far enough...? Anyway, this is not normal, or I forget something ? Many thanks to all. Philippe Lignières (poligise for my poor english)
  17. One year ago, I have seen Belgium cinematographer Boris Lehman's movie called Babel, a kind of filmed diary. 6 hours, all 16mm, projector inside. It sounds pretty good, I was surprised because of the very short band-width. Boris Lehman is very poor and have only one or two 16mm prints of his movie. Moreover, he always come with his film, to be inside and talk with people after screening. It is a very good and not very expensive solution. Interesting to try, anyway. Buddha said : Be low fi ! Philippe
  18. I do a lot of handheld shots, mostly with XM2 Canon and a little with K-3 or Kinor 16mm. I always use camera with monopod and a rope (or a piece of leather) around my neck, basis of monopod locked into the rope. With that device, handheld shots are rock steady, even if not wide lens used. And after many hours, especially for documentary shots, you are not so tired. Philippe
  19. If you bought a bayonet mount K3, you can find easily a 12,5 mm prime (not expensive). With M42 mount, 8 mm Peleng is fine too, very nice for nature, outdoor, etc. Not very fast too (3,5), a bit distorded, but most of wide angle converter for camcorders are worse curve than that. Distorsion is not saw outdoor, more problems in squares indoor. Last but not least, here http://www.geocities.com/russiancamera/16m...asnogorsk-4.htm you can find Olexandr Kalynychenko, a guy able to convert a 10/100 mm to bayonet mount K3. If you buy this lens on ebay, he can do the conversion for you. All that is very few expensive. I poligise for my poor english. I forget one thing : i tried once to put on my 17/69 meteor my 0,75 converter from 10/100 lens. It seems it work. the result is the same : 12,75 mm.
  20. I look for labs still processing VNF at a goog price. Last time Forde made me a good job, but they said they stop VNF. Andec and Rockymountain are a little bit expensive... Philippe (in France)
  21. <<<<<<Is there any chance that the dialogue and the film would be able to match well enough to be a "Faux sync sound Film"???? Yes, of course, Kircules, you just have to adjust sound lenght in post to telecine lenght. In most case, adjust sound lenght cannot be heard. With super8 which electric motor, you can clap on beginning plus end clap, it's easier.
  22. Do you know what is this 11mm lens ? http://www.owyheesound.com/owyheesound_ins...ogorsk_k-3.html It is M42 I suppose ? Hard to find, I think.
  23. One thing I never read here is to use the special 0,75 wide converter (made for 10/100mm zoom for Kinor) on a 17/69 meteor for K-3. I made it quickly a few days ago, just putting it on the front lens with a little bit of gaffer. It seems it work fine. I just looked in the viewfinder, not seen the result on film. The minimal focus distance seem to be around one meter, so half the usual distance and all look as a 12,5mm. Anyway, sharpness is less than normal lens, so anybody could know...
