  1. Looking for a suitable lens across many brands i found the Stemmer Imaging search quite helpful: https://www.stemmer-imaging.com/en/products/category/fixed-focus-lenses/ For my application (recording a medium format image with a 1" sensor) I ended up with a 24MP lens from Kowa: https://www.kowa-lenses.com/en/c-mount-lenses-machine-vision Some sites explain, what magnification ratios you can achieve with a given focal length and extension tubes of different lengths. (I think Schneider even has it in its data sheets)

    Y16

No battery on the inside, the camera is battery agnostic as long it has the required voltage and can deliver the amps. You can mount a FXlion nano one to the side and power the camera via D-tap to lemo cable with it. Or on the back on rods (a bridge plate for 15mm rods is in the works). I designed the Y8 for the BP-U 60, which was silly, bc Sony stopped manufacturing them. Maybe I'll design a hand grip which takes two small off the shelf camera batteries, but that's not my priority now.

    Y16

https://www.yolk.org/camera/y16 I did not want to post this so soon, then again I did not expect Tommy and Lasse to switch their design to a 100ft camera as well. I was relieved to see that Galapagos has a very different design philosophy compared to my camera. I wish them success, I admire their work and find it inspiring. I’ve been working on the Y16, a tiny Super 16 camera for quite some time. The Y8 Super 8 camera project never felt quite right. It was over-engineered, and the PL mount was less than ideal for this film format. I kept telling myself I should put all this effort into a Super 16 camera…so I did. This is the companion camera I really want to my Aaton XTR Prod. Compact, ergonomic, and stripped down. Does anyone else? Probably only a few. If you can’t find a feature or function in the description, it means the Y16 will not have it ♥ I’ll post updates on my LinkedIn page from time to time, you can follow the project there if you want. I won’t post any updates here - it’s the wrong forum for this. https://www.linkedin.com/in/yolklab/
  4. I'd ask Andrée from AM camera or Charles Pickel from SeriousGear
  5. i got the quote from them: https://componentonline.com/product/299-12634/223-1609 don't know if they have the counterpart plug though. concerning if the changed the pin outs from model to model, best ask Charles Pickel, otherwise the pin out function is documented in the user manual of the XTR Prod
  6. I went down that rabbit hole two months ago for my new video tap. The connector 'Tiny Tim' was made by WPI, then by Amphenol, and now you can find some rare spare stock for 10$ a piece for the female socket. EDIT: yes, it's the same connector on the LTR as on my XTR Prod
  7. condenser lenses are aspherical - that's why in projectors they're mostly molded glass to reduce cost, which is good enough for the light beam to be collimated. it's the projection lens that determines the image quality. the condenser just makes sure you have an evenly lit slide from center to corners. the fan probably serves both purposes.
  8. Ideally you'd want a condenser lens array for your projector. The easiest would be to buy a used broken one on eBay for a few bucks and use the condenser array of that projector. Cool project ?
  9. The more distant your objects are, the more the light has to travel through the air and its floating dust particles until it reaches your spot meter. But that's also true for the camera lens, so they see the same amount of haze. Depending on pollution the blue shift might become a purple or orange shift. Or did I misunderstand your question? image by Klaus Leidorf
  10. They need a bit more maintenance, and the friction fluctuates depending humidity. But I like em - I was just wondering as you've taken apart so many different designs.
  11. Always wonderful to see your tear downs Simon ? Speaking of friction clutches, do you dislike ones with a felt inlay?
  12. Three a month Tyler? That's almost a full time job then ?
  13. Still waiting for part two and three of the tour, but I was wondering, given the enormous machinery and sophistication creating the acetate and Estar base, do the other film manufacturers get their base from Kodak? Or does Ilford create their own base? Just curious ?
  14. I can't find the article anymore but I thought at least since the MK IV, the Optica Elites are optically different to the Optar Illuminas. I also find them mechanically more refined than the Illuminas. I have a set of three Elites (12, 20, 35), and when shooting wide open they are softer, and in high contrast scenes they show purple fringing (chromatic aberration).
  15. I'm curious to see where they go with their design, they're very smart and capable engineers.
  16. The 16S movement (pin registered) is much much more complicated than the movement of an Aaton. But i I always loved the mickey mouse ears form factor, which is simpler than a coax design. Although with daylight spools you can do a relatively simple coax design, similar to the A-cam or A-minima.
  17. I engineer lightweight 5-axis machined parts all day, not only for my camera projects, but also for our legged inspection robots at the start-up I work for. I know pretty well how much a 5-axis machined part costs, depending on its geometry, material, the tolerances required, and the price curve for 1,5,10, 50 and 100 parts. There is no way to make a clone of an XTR Prod or 416 (body alone) under 55-75K (manufacturing cost) today, given a batch size of 50 cameras. The viewfinder alone will set you back 12-20K in manufacturing cost
  18. I don't know. Jeff Kreines would probably know more, he's quite an encyclopedia when it comes to film cameras.
  19. the cinematheque doesn't list it: https://www.cinematheque.fr/fr/catalogues/appareils/collection.html?search=aaton So I hope it's still at Aaton Digital
  20. below the YouTube trailer there's a link where you can rent or buy the full length documentary - it's wonderful. https://www.capuseen.com/films/48-l-oeil-mecanique
