  1. even 7 around here... hm. i'll have to reconsider that, thanks!
  2. well, i was hoping that some of the things max mentioned where available online. subscriptions to oversea-magazines are a tad too expensive for the poor student i happen to be...
  3. I couldn't find anything... Would you probably be so kind to post links? thanks in advance, alex
  4. well, first and second ac are very important jobs connected with enormous amounts of responsibility and zero prestige.
  5. well, but it is no problem when shooting mos. i have previously used zeiss highspeed primes on a 16bl. there a few things to mention tho... .) because the mount is so low on the bl, you need some kind of distance plate in order to fit a follow focus in there. .) the mount is embded in rubber (!) most likely for noise reasons. so you have to be careful when focuspulling to infinity for example. when you hit the dead end, the lens might move and so does the image. .)it's noisy as hell. .)sorry for my bad english here are a few pictures.
  6. I was gaffing a shoot with the Movietech Magnum dolly some weeks ago, and i must say that altough i'm quite a semi-bear i would rather not want to carry the center column up some stairs alone, since it's got about 80kg (circa 180lbs). The base is a little less bulky, it could technically be carried by one person, but it has still got 60kg (130lbs).
  7. the in my opinion best movie i've seen this year was "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan".. not cinematography wise of course.
  8. well, lighting wise one big soft source should do it, shouldn't it?
  9. i honestly don't understand all the wuss about using real names.. personally, i don't like like that slightly geeky second internet identity thing with the nicknames very much, my previous username was my last name so adding the first wasn't a very dramatic change.
  10. That means the offset time between shutter and film transport would have to be different when trying to achieve the same amount of streaking on different fast stocks, doesn't it?
  11. hi i was just fiddling around with photoshops "levels" function.. so you won't have any problem with a professional color corection guy, even on premiere 2.0, head up! hope i could help.
  12. nice idea. this is quite a bit related and also damn funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8suLNxKBoIY
  13. they were rather underexposed. it was a matter of about 20 seconds to roughly fix it in photoshop.
  14. i wish i could say/do that. in my yet short career i have already had to work with an awful lot of extreme jackasses.
  15. i read that the 535A has 16,8kg, while the B has only 14.. (with 120m mag, without lens) does anyone know where that almost 3kg weight difference come from?
  16. bump. this is rather urgent, please don't let me down. thanks,
  17. well, i only know of one colleague that plays an instrument. he's an AC and an amazing jazz bassist. i play the drums since the age of 17, i had one lesson that i found to be rather boring and went autodidact from then. the band i founded with some highschool friends back then does still exist and also still has the occasional gig every now and then. but we have some trouble playing our older songs, it's kind of embarassing, since the lyrics are highly puberty-driven stupid (involving either penises or booze or both)... oh, and i played some other bands over the time, but nothing too longlasting. and i also picked up my guitarist's guitar every now and then and bought my first one shortly after, but i'm definately better at drums.
  18. HA! twixtor was the name!! thanks a bunch, phil!
  19. hello the title basically says it all.. is there a difference between shooting slowmotion in 25pn mode with the framerate set at 50fps to shooting in 50p mode? (for the PAL version) thanks in advance,
  20. hello gang. i will be shooting a jesus smashing television sets with a hammer in 50p mode on a hvx200.. what i want to do is to slow it down even more in post. and i remember a videoclip someone posted here long time ago, and i think it was some hiphop combo. shot on a xl1 or xl2 if i remember correctly and the one posting it also mentioned it was slowed down 1000% or something that astronomical... but it looked flawless, absolutely non-strobey. does anyone remember or know what plugin or software this might have been? thanks in advance,
  21. smoking. just kidding. i just keep reminding myself that behaviours like loosing ones temper are most likely not considered professional.
  22. mr. mullen, with all due respect, but as a (cigarette) smoker myself, i find comparing my brood to potheads a bit unfair. just like every other working professional i know, i am strongly against pot, booze or any other mind altering substances on a set. since everybody has certain responsibilities, duties, and work that should be done agile, effektive and skillful, i consider not being sober irresponsble and dangerous to ones self, others and the final product. i would not hesitate to fire someone who is high or drunk on set, or plead to so, given i'm not in the position. and as a cigarette smoker, i consider it my duty not to show others that i'm craving for a cigarette, or go smoking one in inappropiate moments. so does any other working professional i know. maybe there are more black sheep where you work, but the industry here is rather small, so anyone going for a smoke between takes or being obviously unconcentrated because of his nicotine addiction won't have a very long and/or glorious career. so, being a controlled, concentrated and focused worker as a smoker, also on non-smoking sets, is possible, and not to be compared to someone who does obiously not take his job seriously and is high or drunk on set. phew... that was definately my most eloquent post, given that english is not my mother tongue. must have been the fact that this was something "personal" .. ;)
  23. this brought back memories of a rather russian ligting rig i once pulled off... i was gaffing this music video, and we had to light the drummer from above, same as the other musicians. but since he was so far back in the greenbox we had to hang the 2k on this 6m (if i remember correct) pipe. it bended a bit too much in order for me beeing totally relaxed. i was happy when we wrappend without anyone havind a blonde stuck to his head.
  24. a lens with a focal lenght of the image size's diagonal is called a normal lens. for 35mm still photography it's (roughly) 50mm, for 16mm it's 14mm, and for 35mm 1:1,37 it's 32mm so, a normal lens always has angle of view (if this is correct english term) of about 46 degrees, which is said to match humans angle of view.
