  1. This is a large size camera bag that can hold a lot of gear in it. I bought this last year but only lightly used once. It is like new. Excellent condition. It has two removable dividers and also has a ton of pockets. Very well made, heavy duty bag. You can see all the detail of the bag at filmtools.com. http://www.filmtools.com/supergripbag.html Retail price is $280. I'm selling this for $120 OBO + shipping cost. This is with blue tabs. pm me if you are interested or want to see more pics of the actual item. Thanks, Ryosuke
  2. Thanks for the reply, Alex. Glad to know nothing was wrong with the kit on that gig. I wish the relay lens can lock on to front of the HVX lens... I wonder why ps technik didn't design the adaptor the way it locks to the camera securely. It seems to be a design flaw to me... Ry
  3. Hi, I was 1sting on a lo-budget music video gig and we were using mini35 on HVX200. I wasn't given a time to prep the equipment so I just followed the DP's instructions. HVX and mini35 were already assembled. So I just set the back focus and checked a couple of lenses we were gonna use heavily. I noticed HVX wasn't securely locked into the mini35 relay lens. So I disassembled the whole thing but there's no locking system on the relay lens, so I just let it sit tight and tried not to touch the camera as much as possible. The DP said it's just the way it is, but I didn't feel comfortable at all. I was constantly in the fear of the camera sifting slightly without being noticed and mess up with the back focus. Is this the case of this HVX with mini35 combo? I just want to know for the future. Ry
  4. hold the slate still for a second after you clap. then take it away. place the slate in the right positions for different lenses. (ie 5ft away for 50mm, 2ft for 20mm, 100ft for 100mm, etc.) don't clap too harsh when the slate is close to the actor's face. write the correct number clearly. am i forgetting anything? i wouldn't worry about the smart slate. just let the sound dept take care of it.
  5. Hi, I've seen that happened. Just send the camera back to rental house and they should be able to fix it easily. Also there's a chance that the timing is shifted. So check the timing of the camera. Ry
  6. I've always wonder how come samcine dof calculator has T-stop measurement as every lens has slightly different degrees of compensations. Does anyone have answer to this?? I know it's slightly off the topic but Mr. Williams post reminded me of this question...
  7. As long as you are not using super long electric cable between the outlet and the ballast, it should strike with regular house hold outlet. If you are using very long electric cable to draw the power from far distance, the voltage might get too low to strike the HMI.
  8. They are just under different lighting environment. Ones on the top are obviously under sunny day sunlight and have quite a bit contrast. But the ones on the bottom are under cloudy sky. I don't know they really look overexposed (actually I didn't think they were too much of overexposure) but they sure look like the different lighting environment. Ry
  9. Do the test before the shoot with the lab you are thinking to use. Contrast test, latitude test, etc. Underexposing a stop or so is usually recommended by a lot of labs. I rated my meter to ISO500 for 7217 stock and got a good result. Ry
  10. Some parts of Spike Lee's Inside Man were treated with both cross process and bleach bypass. The look is very very contrasty and weird. There is a whole article on that film in the recent AC magazine. I have seen a lot of online reels that contain cross process or bleach bypass footage in this forum. Just look around the archive and you'll find a lot. Ry
  11. Hello, I am shooting a Super16 short flim next month and director wants some halation effect on highlights (Hopefully, rims and practicals.) So I suggested to use Classic Soft 1/2 which was mentioned a few months ago somewhere in the forum. However, the director does not want the softened images. Is it possible to get Halation effects through Classic Soft not softening the whole image? I was thinking of pushing one stop or doing skip bleach to increase the contrast to sharpen up the softened image. Or should I just leave it and do these contrast control in the post? We are using 7218 and finishing on tape. Thank you for your help in advance! Ry Ohio
  12. "March of Penguin" and parts of "Pola X" I don't know which stock they used. Ry
  13. I saw the trailer on Apple website. It looked really Great!! May I ask what gel you used for the moon light in the night scenes? It looks like lagoon blue or some blue that is more close to cyan. Ry K
  14. Thank you for your suggestion! I'll try to contact with them. Besides that, I am contacting with Colorlab and Duart in NYC right now.
  15. Hi, I am doing tests for my film which I will shoot on March. I am testing Ektachrome 100D 7285 for cross processing and cross processing with one stop push. And Vision2 200T 7217 for two stop push process. If the budget allows, I'd like to test bleach-bypass with Vision2 500T 7218. All the test will be ratio test (2:1 to 16:1) with one stop of over and under exposure. The idea is to get the latitude and contrast of those stocks when you do these kinds of processing. I'll be shooting Super16 with Arriflex SR2 with zeiss zoom lens. Does anyone know good lab for those processing? Anyone had good result for these processing? Anyone has any sort of lighting tips for these kinds of processing? I was watching Three Kings the other day. In the special feature, I saw footage before cross process or bleach-bypass was done and it looked like it had some kind of lo-con filter on the lens, and I supposed it was for the extreme contrast you get with these types of processing. So maybe I'll test lo-con filter as well. I have another question. I'll be shooting my film all interior and if I choose to go for cross process, I'll have to shoot interior with 100D stock. Does anyone have experience with that? Any ideas or suggestions are very much appriciated. Thank you all very much in advance!! Ry Kawanaka Ohio
  16. Are those high speed reversal stocks (7251/7252) still available?
  17. It's hard to tell how you light things from this piece. I can tell that you can make experimental films but I wouldn't know if you are capable of lighting a scene. I think you can put a bit more interior shots in it. Ry K
  18. I don't know about USC, but this is not true in every school in the US. Foreign students get financial aid money as well as american students do. But he is not totally wrong. It is true that foreign students sometimes have to pay a lot more tuition than other american student and there are less financial aid available for foreign student. Mr. Boddington gave you a realistic number. That's how much you have to pay. Also, you must finance films you make in the school unless you get grants. It is huge amount of money that you need to graduate USC. But, look around. There are a lot of schools that might offer you good financial aid. It might not be a famous school like NYU or USC where people still want to go regardless how much the tuition they pay. I'm in relatively infamous school in the US, but hey, they guaranteed tuition waiver and some stipend. I was also accepted by more famous schools but I chose infamous one because of the financial aid. Yes, indeed. I'm a foregin student myself too. So I suggest you to consider and apply different schools as well as USC. Ry K
  19. I think anybody can be successful if he/she has a talent and is lucky enough. It doesn't matter where you are from. I don't tihnk most of people would hire you just because you are Ukranian in Hollywood or elsewhere. If you have a skill and knowledge, people would hire you and you could be successful. Especially in the US, foreigners are just everywhere. I don't know if your nationalilty would give you any advantages. It's all up to you. Not your nationality. Best of luck, Ry K
  20. It's 100v and 50/60 herts in Japan. Usually you cannot find ground wire in any electric outlets in Japan. So you should be careful if you are importing the light kit. In addition to 1k plus a couple of fresnels, I would have a few small fresnels (maybe 200-300w) with a bunch of scrims, nets, and flags if it's dark interior scenes. I like using small fresnels very much. I don't know if you are in the Japanese production, but Japanese producers tend to dislike spending much time in lighting set ups. Good luck. Ry K
  21. Bring a BUNCH of black flags with you. And flag the lights like nuts. Ry K
  22. They do have daylight balanced and tungsten balanced films for still. Most of consumer film stocks are daylight balanced though. It is just not explicitely stated on the consumer film rolls. You can find various types of film stocks in professional photo store. If you shoot the negative, most labs usually correct the brightness and color without being asked. They just try to give you as decent photo as possible. That is probably why you think color balance in still is not an issue. For learning purpose, you can also request them not to do any brightness or color correction. I often do. As for the differences in stock, still photography has various different film stocks just as cinematography film has a lot of different kinds. They are just not sold in 100ft or 400ft rolls. It is absolutely different from cinematography in a lot ways, but at the same time it is same in a lot of ways. You can definitely learn whole a lot from it. My MFA program requires a couple of graduate level photography courses. Ry K
  23. I've done similar shot last year with super8. I used 200T negative 7217. I figured it was hard to change exposure or shutter speed setting while it is being shot. It might look abrupt change unless you have extremely precise way of changing the setting. So, I measured the light it would get when the sun's up. Tthe bright was absolutely too hot compared to the light I got before the sun rise. So I threw a very very slight soft light for the overall fill and put some ND and half CTO gels on the window in order to keep all the light level within the latitude somehow. Then I just ran the internal intervalometer and it turned out to be a pretty nice shot. I forget what the interval rate was. Although it was super8, it's basically a same deal, I believe. Hope this helps you. Ry K
