  4. Has anyone out there tested the ARRI Alexa XT's Open Gate mode (1.55:1) on 2x Anamorphic Lenses verses a Dragon at (3:2) with Ana's for close to a 3:1 output ratio with cropping? Or even just the two against each other at all. I cant find anything online at all. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Cheers! Karl Janisse
  5. For Sale: MItchell Light Weight Geared Head - Black. I purchased this 3 speed geared head directly from Panavision L.A. - it was in brand new condition and has seen little use since then. The action on the gears is extremely smooth - no slop at all. Panavision did their usual dilligence and have slightly modified the head for smooth operation. This Mitchell Model #135R500 with built in tilt plate comes with: Head # 276, 150mm flat base tie down, 2 wheels, Riser, Panavision shipping case and original owners manual. I am the only owner.   6. Hello, I'm in the market for a super-16 camera with video assist/tap, 400ft mags, crystal sync at 24/25. Got my eye out for an Arri SR2, SR3, or an Aaton, although a reliable Eclair NPR could do the trick. A camera in Europe is preferable as import duty costs a fortune. Looking to spend £1000 - £2000 ($1650 - $3300) depending on the model and condition. Thanks, Greg
  7. I have the opportunity to purchase a used Arri D-21 from a local rental shop for $6000. I have heard that the D-21 footage has a unique film like quality that surpasses most cameras, even the Alexa. Although it's dynamic range is limited to 11 stops and low lightcapabilities seem to be quite poor. Can those of you who have used the D-21 please share your experiences.

ALMOST BRAND NEW (used once) with Cable ARRI Heated Eyecup HE-4 The new and improved Heated Eyecup HE-4 fits on all ARRIFLEX and ARRICAM cameras. Completely redesigned electronics and a new heating element make this a much more robust unit than its predecessor. In addition, the connector housing can now be rotated, which allows the HE-4 to be easily mounted on all cameras in all positions. Popular features of the HE-3 have been kept, though: the HE-4 can be set to 2 power settings (OFF = heating off, HI = constant heating with maximum power, LO = constant heating with reduced power) and it still uses the same Fischer 4 pin connector, so all existing cables can be used. As I understand it, most big-budget feature movies record on film as opposed to digital; the common claim being that film provides a much more cinematic image, etc. Does anyone think that we'll come to a point when digital cameras are able to produce an image, indistinguishable from film - and that cinematographers will choose digital over film due to artistic choices instead of being led by financial considerations?
  17. I am in pre-production of a film at the moment that will require an 'aerial work platform' and a lighting rig to imitate moonlight above a wooded area. It's part of an ambitious project and none of the crew members have had any experience with this kind of set-up other than our University, Greenwich, is often a film set (twice a month) and we often see similar set-ups, for a beginner with this kind of project, what would you recommend? Extra info: filming in an area in the UK where no films have ever been made and its a bit of a novelty. Some rough terrain and at least 400ft to the nearest power supply if we get the location we would like. Currently we are looking at a 60ft high platform holding a single 12k Arri HMI Fresnel. Any advice will be hugely appreciated (I understand that I have recently posted in a similar topic however it was 6 years old and I would prefer much more recent experience as advice)

  19. Hey folks, Slightly urgent issue here. I've just loaded an SR3 magazine and when I close the first door the film advance wheel (not sure what it's called) is very hard to wind. The other two I loaded spooled the film out quite easily. Should there be a lot of stick when winding the film out? Cheers for the help.
  20. Hey folks, I'm shooting a music video on an SR3 soon with some superspeeds. I had a look through the viewfinder the other day, wide open at t 1.3 and I 'seemed' to be able to pick the focus fairly accurately. I don't want to eyeball the whole shoot however and get back soft rushes. Has anyone judged focus by eye and been ok? Or should I always be measuring? By the way, I'm not going to be shooting the clip at t1.3! Cheers!

  25. Hello everybody, Came here today to ask for advice on building a set of Schneider Primes (arri st or c mount) for use with my black magic pocket camera. I have these both Arri ST mount primes: Schneider-Kreuznach Arriflex-Cinegon 16mm f1.4 Schneider Cinegon 10mm f1.8 So I was thinking on a 25mm and a 50mm to complete the set. Maybe a 75mm or up as well. And I need to know which ones should I get (the names, please) to have a set where they could be interchangeable, meaning I could keep a balance in the quality/looks. So I can chase around to buy them. Thank you all in advance.
