  2. Hi folks/students/eaters of knowledge I’m holding a workshop for cinematography set lighting. There are two four hour sessions being held at The Cove studio on Markfield Road, Tottenham, London on Saturday 18th August as part of the Fountayne Road Open Warehouse Day. It's aimed at people who haven't had any or little set lighting experience to come and educate their eyes by trying out things for themselves to see what the results are. A set is being specifically built for the workshop and it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn some real set lighting techniques whether for commercials, drama or music videos. We will also have a translight from Rosco to add a bit or reality to the set. So far Arri Lighting, Cirrolite (Dedolight and KinoFlo), Greenkit, Lightpanels, Rosco and Hive have expressed in interest or committed to supplying lighting, so a big thank you to them. This is being done at a really low cost due to the generosity of the studio owner Malene Oddershede Bach, the lighting sponsors and a number of other people contributing their help for free. As a result each four hour session is only £10! Here are the two links to book the sessions at Eventbrite, one morning session and one afternoon. Read the details of the sessions here and note that one session (afternoon) is women only just to try and get better numbers as women are under catered for in our industry for behind the camera (or light). https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cinematography-workshop-session-1-interior-set-lighting-daynight-tickets-48718216497 https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/womens-cinematography-workshop-session-2-interior-set-lighting-daynight-tickets-48626522237 Jonathon Sendall DP, London UK

  4. Hello Guys, Getting into The Industry I am creative writing student and have a few questions and queries regarding the industry of film and cinema. I do not have the benefits of nepotism, so I am starting from the bottom. I have worked for three years at some top companies in London (Liberties & Claridge's inc). Those experiences have exposed me to the realities of corporate companies, job ladders and management. They have given me the guile and awareness of what happens with the high-status businesses and sharpened my outlook regarding Industries. The paid roles I am looking for (all entry positions) Art Department Assistant Film Administrator Assistant Concept Artist Assistant Storyboard Assistant Junior Producer Assistant Film development Assistant Screenwriting Internship DOP Apprentice / Internship Portfolio / Experience / Relatable Knowledge I am creating a short online portfolio with my screenplays as a prospectus for my work, portfolio for jobs. (6 Months available) Studying a Creative Writing and Media Degree Undergoing a Film Music Score course with Berklee University Online. I study creative writing degree and understand the enterprise of having an innovative presentation/portfolio/C. V/ Compliment letter for getting a job role however what are the additional requirements of my pitch I could do to gain a contract? How would I go on about contacting a company directly to express my interest in working with them? Is this a useful approach? As I am not in the industry as of yet, would I need to get involved in an entertainment recruitment agency or hire a consultant to advise and guide me through the pathways and pitfalls of the Film scene via networking and contacts? I do plan to make a short film and supply it with a printed leaflet which gives a brief snippet of the Cinema I aim to create, my skills, and showcase my relatable talents that could help their companies grow. How should I market this in regards to the job role I am keen? Would I then aim to promote it to as many consortiums as possible? My most pressing question is regarding the ‘other side’. I do not want to work for people that are the creative talents; I want to be the ‘creative content producer’, therefore is there a route in 2017 which would be monetary instead of a freelance Cinematographer, Screenwriter, Videographer? If so what is it? Moreover, what would be the best alternative, that would be an expressive job role which I can create in that pays As I am in England London, the industry is very minimal however it still exists, but I am sure there were many people in my predicament in their early days. If you have any advice on how to ‘break’ into the industry in the associated roles, I mentioned, please provide me with some information as it will go a long way to shaping my future and next career step. Many Thanks Michael okorodudu

I've previously been finding my own work and wondered if having a diary service/agent has helped you get more work at all? Is it worth the money? Or just a waste of time? Thanks! Davey

Hi, I'm looking to further my career in cinematography and was wondering if you could help me as I'm trying to find (if there is any) an apprentice scheme in the UK to be mentored by a cinematographer or a few cinematographers? Just thought I'd put it out there to see if anyone has been involved or knows of any schemes, etc. Cheers All James Ian Gray

  18. Hi everyone! I am a 25 years Italian boy just arrived in London and I am very interested in working in the field of cinematography. After my cinema university studies I have been working for two years as editor, best boy, camera assistant and operator. These experiences helped me understand what I really want to do, which is working in the camera department. Actually, I am still learning to acquire new knowledge and experience with an aim to become, some day, a professional DP which is my dream. I have decided to move to London as it is the most interesting and dynamic European staging post, concerning cinema and video-making. I think that is a more professional environment, in Italy now the situation in awful! So I'm looking for someone so kind to keep me as a intern! I'm very interested to learn film workflow (and digital too) with a specific attention to movies. I've tried with rental companies but they are already busy… now I'm studying some books and manuals deal with the job of AC, cinematography, image composition etc… and I'm trying to improve my english too! So I'm here! If someone is interested please leave me a message. Thank you! Filippo
