  1. You all know that I hate reels but after much consideration I ended up making one. Now, I have no idea whether is good or not but I do think that it is tailored to narrative work and maybe it would help somebody when cutting their reel! It took me 4 months to find the song I thought that represented me a bit and cutting the reel has been a great way to realise even more that I just want to shoot wonderful human stories instead of commercials. Also.. I just graduated from college (believe it or not ??)
  2. Hey there everyone! I am a colombian film student and wannabe cinematographer and I am looking for some advise for an upcoming short film me and some classmates are preparing. So I am going to be the DP for this short and in terms of lightning I am looking to have an aesthetic close to the images I attached below for the interior daylight scenes. Logic tells me that to achieve this I should have some strong key lights motivated from the windows on the characters and expose to those bright areas of the face, so everything else will be darker to achieve that high contrast ratio. We´ll probably have like 2 or 3 arri 1000 and maybe like 6 arri 650, it really depends on what the faculty will have available at the time and the budget that production will give us (which will be very, very low). So really I want to have a realistic view of our lightning capabilities with such few lights, can I achieve this look with the lights that are available? If so, what tips can you guys give me to achieve it on an extremely low budget? One of our likely sets is a house with really big windows, so one of the strategies I came up with is partially blocking some windows to control and limit the entrance of light (because it may be too much and spreading everywhere). Am I thinking about this the right way or am I completely off? Thanks in advance!

  4. 15 Minute Pit Stops In 2025, it will only take 15 minutes to recharge your car. In these circumstances, what would you do with those 15 minutes to recharge yourself while you recharge your car? Send in your pitches for a 3 to 5 minute original short film that tells the story about a future where you have 15 minutes to yourself to do whatever you want while you wait for your car to recharge. A total of 3 pitches will be chosen to make into short films. If your pitch is one of the winners, you will receive a production budget of $15,000 to produce and deliver your short film in three weeks. Your pitch should be in English and include an original title, a written script, a concept explanation, a budget breakdown of your proposed 3 to 5 minute film, your biography, and links to your previous work. Bids may also include visuals such as story boards, mood boards, or sample images. The finished films will be promoted through a paid social media campaign and live on BASF’s website.
  5. This is a short film I shot earlier this year - Buden (Awake; directed by Simon Moe and Lara Lovrič). I also worked as a 1st AD, editor, producer, sound designer and colorist. The language is Slovene but it has HQ English subtitles. We are enthusiast student filmmakers with aprox. 4 years filmmaking experience. International festival Zoom 11 chose this film as one of the "Top 10" film (503 were submitted).I would be very happy to get some honest feedback, specifically on my cinematography. Majority of the film was shot on Canon EOS cams, the slow-mo sequence was shot on Sony A7s and some internal shots on Nikon D3300. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tg5angkY8Ig&t=72s Thank you and best regards, Martin
  6. Hello there everyone, Well i'm shooting my final short film at 3rd year in film school, the script takes place in a night interior house, my problem is that due to the shooting script in a few shots we see the window. We have to shoot in that hours (daylight) because the film school requires it. I asked one of my teachers and he told me that one easy solution could be to make kind of dark boxes in the windows for putting the lightning equipment and not allowing to pass the sunlight, then put Hampshire Frost filter in the windows for defocus the light and use little lights that seems to come from the street. It seems to be a good idea but do you have any others?, I have time until the shooting day and I want to explore all the posibilities. The shooting will be 10 hours and we have 8 Ronin shots, the camera is the BMCC 4K with one and only Samyang XEEN 20mm, I want an f/4.0 and my gaffer will be prelightning the other two rooms in wich the action happens. Thanx!! -Alex

  8. Link: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/deep-sleep-short-film/x/268202 Deep Sleep is a short film about a self-loathing teen, Derek Harper, who's sick of his severe idiopathic hypersomnia (sleep addiction). He lives in a generic apartment, and works at a late-night cafe for free coffee to keep his life somewhat moving. His one and only friend Hay Tyler, helps him find the answers to his condition. You're important because you guys are the most vital part of the film. You determine whether this film will be good or bad. Your funding determines how much creative freedom we have, and how close we can tell this story to its envisioning. You are even more important because you're the key to the film's success. Not only will you help me make a beautiful film, you will get me further to my dream. Why Is It Important To Me? 'Deep Sleep' is an important project to me not only because its the most biggest challenging project I've tackled so far, but because it can be a film that can allow me to prove my talent and potential as a filmmaker. When I went and saw 'Inception', I had no idea what it was about really, and went into the theater unexpected. As the film finished, and I walked out of the theater, a feeling came over me that inspires me everyday. I was completely blown away. I want to create that same feeling in everyone of my films. Thanks for taking the time to read this, it is deeply appreciated. Please take a second or so and spread the word around about this project. It needs it! Thanks again, Will Jacobs Actor, Director, Writer, and Producer of 'Deep Sleep'
