  8. In both, I'm referring to filming with a Panasonic GH5 on V-Log L 1. Why do we need correct exposure for a particular log? Do colors shift when using wrong IRE? Or is it more for retaining details, not colors? 2. I've seen someone on Youtube (can't remember exactly who) saying that to get proper exposure on V-logL, your subject should be at 42 IRE. Using an 18% gray card, he adjusted the exposure until it's roughly 42 IRE. So i thought to myself that I can adjust exposure even when the subject/actor hasn't arrived on the set yet. I'll hold an 18% gray card on where his face would be an
  9. My name is Jack Lam, and I am a working cinematographer. In my blog site, I wrote an open letter to Panasonic titled: Long-overdue Innovations in Manual Focus Will Make LUMIX-S a Winner for Professional Cinematographers The article can be viewed here: http://www.jack-lam.com/blog-post-1.html We have not seen much fundamental progress in the tools for professional focus control since the rise of DSLR cinematography, and it is an area that is badly in need for some innovations. I think the launch of LUMIX S is a great opportunity for Panasonic to do that. In the article, I explai

  12. Panasonic Varicam 35 Package For Sale - $19,500 I am Los Angeles-based director/producer and purchased the camera for a production. It was barely used (161 total hours). It's like new. I am happy to provide professional references from reputable industry professionals. This is an excellent camera at a steal of a price. All functions of the camera work perfectly. It has been extremely well kept at a rental house in LA. All functionality can be tested before purchase. The Package includes: ||CAMERA|| - Panasonic AU-V35C1G Varicam Camera with PL Mount - AU-VREC1G Recording Modul

The TVLogic is a workhorse with its hard buttons and easy programming. Its slightly sharper, I trust the color a little more (and highlights), and its incredibly reliable. It also manages every format properly, so you aren't thrown a curv

  17. Hello everybody ! I wrote a table comparing most of our favorite cameras and their technical specifications (Sensor info, recording info, weight, Mount, Power Consumption, Price ...). I was bored searching in the manuals and documentations, so this should make it a bit easier ! DIGITAL CAMERA COMPARISON Next time, I'd like to make it dynamic with an auto ranking when we click on a particular category. Cheers, Romain
  18. I'm thinking about buying a camera at the end of the year. I've been assessing what I can afford and what's available. So far, I've narrowed it down to either the Panasonic GH4 or the Sony A7s. I like the GH4's native ability to shoot 4k but I'm concerned about the 4/3" sensor size. I'm impressed with the Sony A7s' shooting capability especially in low light but disappointed that shooting 4k requires an expensive peripheral. I'd appreciate any advice, opinions and first hand intel anyone can give me. If there's another camera system that anyone would recommend, by all means. Mind you I can
  19. Hey! We're looking for a DP based in London UK to work on a micro budget road movie (Set in the US) that will be shot on Andromeda DVX100, with Elite Letus 35mm adaptor. If the budget allows then we will be shooting on Aaton XTR, S16mm film, or combination of both. Synopsis and more info here: Awaken The Giant Within At the moment we're looking for the right DP and we want to, soon, start shooting some tests. You must have experience on micro/low budget productions and be based in London, UK. If you are interested please send an email with the following details: Cv, camera/tech ski

  21. Buyer beware: Panasonic is introducing the Varicam 35 in a hobbled state. 60 fps initially, with higher frame rates to come “in a future firmware update.” In 2013, I took delivery of a Panasonic PX5000 P2 ENG camera. It shipped with 60p/50p and 60i/50i (who shoots interlaced any more?!?) enabled, with 24p, 25p and 30p to come “in a future firmware update.” OVER A YEAR LATER, the camera STILL does not shoot 1080 at 24p, 25p or 30p. Last week they released a firmware update with those frame rates… FOR A 720 DOWNSCALED IMAGE from the native 1080 sensor. I’m told the 1080 update wil
  22. I'm planning to shoot my next film, "Self Help" on DVX100B, Andromeda, Reel Stream, 4:4:4. I bough a barely used gear from a Texas based production comany that went bust. No idea how to use it but I have a manual. That's a start :) Anyway if there are any DP's out there that can share their experience or give advice then that would be well appreciated. When the time comes we'll be looking for a DP but until now I just wanted to shoot some tests before I decide to shoot the film on andro instead of S16mm Aaton. Here's a photo of it: http://www.ivan-samu...-for-self-help- Ta!
  23. Good morning everyone J I am new to the idea of making a feature film and especially trying to make it look professional. I have played with video work and editing for many years but my photography skills in terms of manual use are at the moment beginner, I’ve been told to make a film by a uk film maker I know and really excited about the prospect of giving it a go. If it’s possible I would really love some guidance, I would like it to look as professional quality as possible but of course budget is really tight (same as everyone I would imagine!), I’m considering between the Panason
