  2. I've recently acquired a Cartoni Beta fluid head from a production company and it has many miles on it. I noticed the tilt action (fluid and spring) has "play" or an "air gap". As I tilt, say up, then turn to go back down, there is a small gap in the transision. It's slight but noticable enough to make a shot jerk during an innapropriate time. Pan is fine. I've never encountered a fluid head with this before. Is this inherent of the Cartoni Beta? And most importantly, how do I get this fixed? 5. Selling my Sachtler DV-8/100 SB fluid head with Sachtler ENG 2 D 2-Stage aluminum legs and SP100 ground level spreader. While this head has been discontinued by Sachtler (B&H offers the FSB10 head as the current equivalent and currently sells that head with the ENG 2 D legs for $3263.00) I have to say that both the legs and the head are in incredibly good condition with little signs of physical wear. All of the parts work as they should. The legs should have a retractable cable for binding the legs during transport, but the cable has been missing since I bough this whole package. The package I am selling also includes the quick release plate with mounting screws, handle and I will throw in the Vinten brand soft carrying case as well. Head: Sachtler DV-8/100 SB The DV8/100 SB Fluid Head, with its payload of 26.4 lbs, offers high-precision and extremely fast counterbalance. The 'SB' in the DV-8SB stands for SpeedBalance - it has a 12-step indexed counterbalance system for fast, repeatable setups. Similar to larger filmic fluid heads, it features 5-step fluid drag, a self-illuminated Touch Bubble for leveling with the 100mm half-ball base, and tap holes for mounting cine-style finder supports. In addition to finer counterbalance graduation, SpeedBalance heads also have an increased payload range, including a reduction in minimum payload, this makes them ideal for cameras ranging from lightweight camcorders to broadcast and digital cinema cameras, along with accessories. The DV 8/100 SB has a 100mm half-ball base for easy leveling. With all these new developments, Sachtler has continued to follow its secret of success step switching. It allows camera operators to optimally balance the fluid head and camera in no time at all. While stepless systems often require time-consuming adjustments by trial and error, graduated-step counterbalance gives you perfect set-ups on demand. • Indexed Counterbalance and Fluid Drag For fast, repeatable setups with varying payloads • Touch and Go Quick-Release System For speedy setups and take-downs without compromise • Left-Hand Rosette For left- and two-handed pan arm configurations • Ground-Level Spreader Ensures maximum stability, and protects delicate floors Weight: 2.6 kg / 5.7 lb Payload: 1 - 12 kg / 2.2 - 26.5 lb Sliding range - plate: 60 mm / 2.4 in Counter balance: 12 steps Grades of drag: 5 each horizontal and vertical + 0 Tilt range: +90 / -75° Temperature range: -40° to +60° C / -40 to +140° F Camera fitting: Touch & Go Plate DV 8 Tripod/Pedestal fitting: 100 mm bowl, integrated flat base fitting Pan bar(s): 1, Type DV 75 Level: self-illuminating Touch Bubble Tripod: Sachtler ENG 2 D The Sachtler ENG 2 D has double extension dural aluminum tripod legs with a 100mm bowl and a maximum load of 77 lbs. 9. Hi everyone. I've been trying to determine what support system would be best for my ARRI SR-2. At a given time, I would have the following accessories attached to it: ARRI Dovetail, Sliding Base-plate & 15mm rods SR-II Follow-focus MB-17B 4x4 matte-box I have don't have any long lenses. I've been looking at Sachtler items, primarily, and I want to make sure I get spreaders, too. I'm willing to pay for quality items (3K - 5K,) so if anyone can advise me, I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks in advance.
  10. I'm starting to look into purchasing my own fluid head and sets of sticks. I typically work on set with the Sachtler 80 and O'Connor 2575 heads, but would like to invest in a head for my own equipment kit. While I'm not in the market to purchase neither of the heads mentioned above, I would like to look into a possible vintage head that would work well with my RED One MX package. Typically my package is fully kitted and lensed with Zeiss Super Speeds, but I occasionally use LOMO Anamorphic lenses, or an Angeneiux 25-250 zoom. I'm currently looking into the O'Connor 50D fluid head, and would like feedback on the model. Also, if anyone has other recommendations I would like to hear those too! Marcus
  11. Dear colleagues For sale is a beautiful Ronford-Baker F15s Fluid head with +.15 Fluid Boost Module Ronford heads are well known tools in the film industry yet recognized as a standard in the motion picture environment so this doesn't really need any introduction. In brief, this Fluid Pan/Tilt head is designed for 35mm motion picture cameras, has multiple lever resistance control, and a +.15 'fluid boost' resistance module. The Ronford Head is popular around the world for its smooth and constant resistance and capacity to handle the heaviest loads. This specific tilt head has been used by a single owner for several years now and supported the cameras that shot "Outbreak" and "Air Force One" among others. It is in perfect working condition, with just a few dings and nicks on their blue steel surfaces to give it character. The head comes with a standard operating handle, camera quick-release plate, and a sturdy, well-padded metal shipping case. Put this head under your camera, grab the handle, and make some movie magic. This head has done great work before, and has the potential to help you make your own masterpieces for years to come. Be advised this head comes WITHOUT the PAN fluid module as it has been modified by Ronford to be used in dutch set-up. So don't miss the opportunity to get it now at an incredible reasonable cheap price. Item is located in italy, buyers pay for shipping charges or must arrange for pick-up. Buyers are welcome to come and try it out before purchase if need be. Asking price is either €1.200,00 or USD 1,300.00 but slightly negotiable for a quick sale. 13. Venerable Brand Unveils Lightweight Support Crafted Specifically for Digital Cinema Cameras BURBANK, Calif. (May 27, 2015) - OConnor, a Vitec Group brand and premier provider of fluid heads, tripods and camera accessories for film and television production, has announced the release of its new 2560 Ultimate Fluid Head. The latest addition to the company's successful Ultimate range of fluid heads, the 2560 is ideally suited to the configurations of today's camera set ups. Specifically engineered to support fully accessorized smaller cameras in studio configuration, the lightweight fluid head has the flexibility to be used with many of the film cameras and large-sensor digital offerings available currently available or releasing soon. Crafted for "cine-style" shooting, the new head design delivers cinema standard positioning of controls, including brakes and rosettes, for easy and intuitive use. The 2560 fluid head also includes OConnor's patented sinusoidal counterbalance system for true, accurate balance at any point in the tilt range. In combination with the company's stepless, ultra-smooth pan & tilt fluid drag, the 2560 delivers the control and stability that have been characteristic of OConnor for over 60 years. "Whatever camera configuration our users need to support, whether digital or film, the Ultimate 2560 will accommodate them without compromising on performance," said Steven Turner, Product Manager for OConnor. "Offering many of the same features as our flagship 2575D head, the 2560 provides the quality and reliability synonymous with OConnor in a lighter weight, smaller form factor. Whether you're looking to support an increasing number of accessories, gain more flexibility and mobility in the field, or future-proof your camera support system, the 2560 delivers a perfectly balanced solution for digital cinema shooters." The Ultimate 2560 fluid head is housed in lightweight magnesium, ensuring a best-in-class performance and a superlative power to weight ratio. Weighing less than 18 pounds, the 2560 is capable of supporting camera payloads up to 66 pounds at a 6-inch center of gravity above the platform. In addition, each head comes with a carbon fiber cover for improved stiffness and maximum durability in extreme conditions. "The new 2560 offers the same solid feeling and form factor I'm used to from OConnor, but in a much lighter weight package," says David Mahlmann, SOC, who recently used the 2560 on an indie film shoot. "This makes for faster and easier setups for the camera and grip departments, allowing us to take full advantage of today's lighter weight cameras." As camera technology continues to evolve rapidly, OConnor's newest fluid head is one of several products the company is introducing to meet the shifting needs of cinematographers and operators. "All of OConnor's products are engineered to meet the demands of today's challenging camera work, and now, more than ever, flexibility means everything," added Turner. "The Ultimate 2560, with its high latitude of range and infinite, accurate balance and drag, is the very definition of versatile." The Ultimate 2560 Fluid Head will be available worldwide in June. The suggested list price will be $13,750. For more information, visit OConnor at www.ocon.com.

  16. Hi there, This is my first post. What I need to know is how to get a 'happy ending' when whip-panning. What gear do I need? Also, I have £1,000 to spend ($1,476) a week on the feature we're shooting in September. Half is outdoors, the other half has a control room (think The Bourne Ultimatum). What gear will cover me for the two aspects. It would be great to hear back from some of you on this. Thanks, Haydn

The Ace L 75mm tripod head can now be conveniently converted to a flat base, through the removal of a bottom screw, and mounted on a range of sliders. The Ace L is extremely versatile with a payload range of up to 6 kilograms and can be used with three different carbon fibre tripods - the floor spreader, mid-level spreader or telescopic tripod system.
