Joseph Meiri
Hi, I'm looking for some recommendations on professional cinematographer's gear (such as shoes etc.) - either brands or places I could find such items.
Dan Salzmann
With all due respect, that is one hell of a first post on a cinematography forum. Nike has cinematographer shoes with retractable spikes on them for giving people reality checks.

Premium Member Chris Keth Posted October 6, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted October 6, 2007 Lightmeter(s). Contrast filter, perhaps. There's not a lot one really needs since the equipment is taken care of already. Comfy shoes and perhaps kneepads if you're operating.

Premium Member Mark Sasahara Posted October 8, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted October 8, 2007 A nice, soft angora sweater and black pumps-three inch heels are about right. Guess I'm from the Ed Wood school of film making. Be sure that your sweater has pockets for your lightmeter and walkie.

Saba Mazloum
Hey guys, To the Dp's out there, do you always use a grey card and color chart for each mag?
Premium Member Kevin Zanit Posted December 26, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted December 26, 2007 I try to at least get one at each setup. In actuality, I run out of time a lot, and thus it never gets done, and I just make sure to leave good notes and or call the place doing the dailies. Jonathan Bowerbank
To the Dp's out there, do you always use a grey card and color chart for each mag? Usually for the color timer's sake, I try to do one at the beginning of each new mag. Even if you plan on doing some special grading in post, it's good to have that reference for what is "normal" in reference to what you shot. Basic DP Gear? Depends on the situation always. If you're a one man crew, the list goes on forever. If you have a good sized crew of your own, then just your lightmeter, comfy shoes, and a shoulder pad & kneepads if you're operating handheld. I'm a fan of New Balance shoes, but find they don't breath enough for longterm comfort. Recently I've been wearing my pair of checkerboard slip-on Vans, and been incredibly comfortable on shoots. I know another DP who wears open toed Teva sandals, no matter what!
Scottie Mei
new balance is for sure comfy shoes for walking on set with long hours, and i have to agree vans is pretty comfortable too. i recommend getting sunpath software for exterior shoots, and ear plugs if you shoot a lot of music videos.
