Matt Stevens
The normally reliant Canon 310XL went wonky on my recently and an tire roll of Tri-X was just not focused right. I've no idea what went wrong, but it DID go wrong. So I just edited some of it together in a little video. Transfer by the guys at filmmaker8.com and they do good work with a quick turnaround. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYTOl7yFCe8
Premium Member Vincent Sweeney Posted November 6, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted November 6, 2011 Was it just one roll? That was odd... did you hit the lens at any point? Is it loose at all?
John Salim
I wonder if the film cartridge's plastic pressure plate has been pushed in beforehand ? ....though I suspect the claw wouldn't engage properly in that situation. Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted November 6, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted November 6, 2011 At a guess I'd say the film wasn't flat in the gate - it's noticeably softer on one side. Which could be the cartridge, or something in the gate.
Matt Stevens
It was just that single roll, so likely correct, Dom. I have a lot more footage from that roll, obviously and will make something out of it. Some of it looks perty weird and cool.

Premium Member Vincent Sweeney Posted November 8, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted November 8, 2011 He was joking because it looks like a cool effect of some kind. Yeah, if it was just the one roll, I agree with the cartridge plate.
Geoff Howell
looks cool whatever it is! The registration seems pretty good, if the pressure plate was even a little bit out of whack wouldn't the film be jumping around? Is it at all possible that this happened in the telecine? Premium Member Will Montgomery Posted November 8, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted November 8, 2011 Is it at all possible that this happened in the telecine? Just project it to see. I have a feeling that whomever transferred it would have investigated the problem at the time though. Which means it's probably on film that way. Matt Stevens
Exactly. I know Tom at filmmaker8 had a look at it and he warned me there was something off with that entire roll. poop happens. B)
Premium Member Will Montgomery Posted November 9, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted November 9, 2011 poop happens. B) I've had many more 35mm rolls go bad on my Eyemo than I've ever had issues with Super 8 even on my cheapest cameras.
