Roger Haney
Which 16mm projectors are capable of recording on Mag Striped Film? Were there ever any that were capable of recording and playback on a balance stripe? 16mm editors?
Brian Drysdale
You could get 16mm projectors that recorded onto the magnetic stripe. I know Bell & Howell had a model that did this, it came with a separate audio recording panel that plugged into the projector.
Mark Dunn
The Steenbeck replays from 16mm. stripe. Very, very few super-8 sound editors could record- I'd be very surprised if anyone ever put that on a 16mm. viewer. It's just not a professional feature. Nicholas Kovats
Roger, That would be the Siemens 2000 16mm projector that could record on magnetic stripes on the 16mm film , i.e. http://www.van-eck.net/itable.php?lang=en&size=&cat=film&merk=151&type=2000 They also had a 2nd variation that duplicated the transport that was basically a two track 16mm projector. One for picture and the other was for 16mm fullcoat magnetic film. Both were interlocked for sync.

David Leugers
The Bell and Howell JAN 16mm projector has a version that can record to as well as play back from magnetic striped film. It has a separate unit that attaches to the projector via cables for recording. Very well made. International Cine Equipment Co (ICECO) in Miami may still be able to provide such a setup with a synchronous motor powering the projector for exact 24fps film speed. I purchased mine from them years ago.
