  1. Anyone on the forum work there currently? Let me know. Jamie
  2. I hate white cyc shoots. Ktop in Oakland has a white room with lots of gear. Beware of the woman who runs the place, she curses more than a sailor.
  3. we used a honda 6500 EU series, and it worked just fine. if I were you, I'd figure out how much it costs vs how many days of rental vs $200/day and beat that price. You might just make your money back and then some, and then you have a generator for yourself.
  4. Just worked on a feature in memphis...although I didn't experience quite the same things you did, I can say that things are different in the middle of the country. We got away with a lot of things during shooting, stuff that wouldn't happen on the west coast.
  5. I should have been more descriptive: http://www.bulbamerica.com/PAR64-Black-42-prod.htm Bear in mind that there are different sized bulbs, par 38, 46, 56, 64. The units that house these bulbs will be smaller as well, but still retain the par can shape. Check this page for sizes, distance and output: http://www.123dj.com/l_parcans.html Par cans have gel holders which are sweet. You can also build softboxes to go around them as well. I'm a big fan of spending little money and using what I have till I can afford or NEED to buy the real deal stuff (like arri lights)
  6. make sure they aren't stealing your script.
  7. you don't need a junior clamp for that purpose. A regular old C-clamp with a baby pin will do. Hell, even a cardellini would be fine, but I know we are tying to give you the best solution here. My thoughts when rigging: Least amount of gear and weight. Quick but versatile and strong.
  8. look into using par cans. I bought 3 units with bulbs for under $100. You can get 300/500/750/1000w bulbs with different spreads (very wide, wide, medium, narrow, very narrow). They look great. They are cheap, and you can nock 'em around too. They are not compact, but that hasn't been an issue for me.
  9. I dont know personally. If you can find spare bulbs for them, that's always good. Also, if you are buying online, you will want some kind of return policy, since you can't check the cables...etc online. Make sure you protect yourself. Jamie
  10. Robert: Where are you in Pacifica? I live in Pacif Manor, and I also agree that Gorilla BBQ is good, but not great. I still prefer Hard Knox. How do you guys feel about Sunday the 27th?
  11. I worked with the GH1 with the Hot Rod systems PL mount and Zeiss Compact primes. I haven't seen the footage, but I wasn't happy (as an AC) working with the camera. No live preview. Focusing on the small LCD was a PITA. Good things: Small, lightweight. You can shoot tons of footage on the cards (not hundreds of gigs), and no noise from the camera.
  12. agreed. I think it might be standard to ask for Half rate for the few days, but make sure you make your money!
  13. get a convertible lead car and shoot the picture car from the convertible.
  14. Btw, $775 for the cart is a pretty good deal ( the deal being $200 off). Pop a mitchell plate on there and tripod hooks and your pretty golden. Also if you plan on putting this in your vehicle, make sure it fits.
  15. ^ I plan on doing something similar. There is a magliner store in SF which will sell most of the cart at a much cheaper price. This helps since you now have more money to put into accessories. I like the back stage carts, but is it my understanding that you can't fold them up as easily as a magliner?
  16. Most people shoot on Zeiss Super Speeds since they are cheaper than S4's and Ultra primes. They are a 1.3, but they are not as sharp as at 1.3 as a 2/2.8. My favorite lenses are ultra primes, but that's dependant on the project. I'm sure if you search this forum you can find tons of write-ups/opinions on what each lens looks like, flares like...etc Jamie
  17. The gh1 is a PIA to use for some many different reasons. Can't imagine shooting a feature on it.
  18. Daniel Madsen: Your video on your gripnation website is completely slanderous and without justification. You haven't mentioned anything about the situation. If you were to take these producers to court, you would have a hard time considering you are now slandering them publicly without proof. I would take that video down immediately. How do we know you are wrong or right?
  19. Depending on the insurance policy, covering L&D can cost the insuree up to $5k for the deductible. If there were $4k is damage...what would a producer do? We didn't hear the story about what got damaged and why though...
  20. Hey Steve! I was going to mention the monitor that David posted: Panasonic BT-LH80WU. It has a red peaking mode which makes it pretty east to pull off of in a pinch. I think Chater might have one. Jamie (camera PA when we shot in justin herman plaza)
