  1. While watching this Oprah segment about Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai, as the video begins with its intro about their film Mecca, i saw in one shot a set where the frame is holded with an holder i newer seen before. What is it? Best Igor

  3. Maybe the stands Walter Graff mentiones in his "What is in my light kit" article will do. Quote: "Manfrotto, sold in the United States by Bogen Imaging, makes a stand that collapses down to 26 inches long by 2.5 inches wide while still extending to 8 feet. It's as durable and sturdy as a larger stand. I have six Manfrotto stands in my kit and three larger stands from Matthews Studio Equipment for the heavier stuff." Walter is member in this forum. He might give you more details. Regards Igor
  4. Terrence Malicks's "Days of Heaven" "The Thin Red Line" "The New World" From a lighting stand point, by the most part shot with natural light. Look at the elegance and beauty of Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon": Regards Igor
  5. Try using your footage as 25fps material. In After Effects parlor - interpreting the footage as 25fps, and using it in 25fps project. Yes, it will run slower, but you will keep the smoothness. No judder from ( bad ) 30->25. If you can live with slowed down a bit action, and audio pitched down or timestretched, go for it. === I also don't like the fact that the movie mode of almost all digital still cameras is 15/30fps. No regards for us in PAL land. I am considering when using a 30fps digicam ( DSLR or compact ) for music video, to properly speed up the audio playback, shoot 30fps and then using it as 25fps. It will fit perfectly in the proper original song tempo. Regards Igor
  6. The American Cinematographer August 2002 online article might shed some light on the cinematography in RTP: AC Magazine - August 2002 - Emotional Triggers Regards Igor

  8. I am trying figuring out the line of thought old school hard light DP's had when lighting interiors for WS or MS... Bright lit interiors, not noir and in color. There seams having multiple shadows not being a problem, and BG light/s not necessarily fallowing a motivated source. It feels like throwing light on what should be seen. I wonder, couldn't they use/create room ambience (at that time) and light locally for action and talent? Even BG, but with less hard light sources? (well.. my line of thought) Recent hard lit films that i watched - Patton (1970) and Gone with the Wind (1939). I am trying to figure an order in there, cause it still looks good. Well, good... That's maybe another discussion... about the impact of the first movies watched as a kid and their role in creating the feeling of what a (good) movie LOOKS like. :) ------------------------------------------------------- It's late, am sleepy. Sorry if not being clear. Regards Igor
  9. With normal TV Cameras, regardless SD or HD, shot 50i or 60i ( PAL or NTSC), they would be able to easy extract smooth slo-mo at 25 or 30fps. I have also seen some VERY smooth slow footage, from sporting events and was also questioning my self this could not be done by slowing regular interlaced recording. Recently as i became interested in Discovery's Channel "Time Warp" i searched for info on which cameras they use for the show and found out on the camera manufacturers sites that some of their models where used at the Beijing Olimpics. So i guess other sporting events do use occassionaly highspeed digital cameras. Best Igor
  10. Try HDV/DV Rack by Serious Magic. You can zoom into your LIVE picture on the monitor. Best Igor

  13. You can switch your meter to measure EV units. For example: With film rated at 320 ASA, at 25 fps and 180 degree shutter and EV 5 you will get f/1.4 The EV value will be shown with digits and on the analog scale a pointer will show you the F number. Go to your area where your light level should be 2 stops under and adjust the light source till you read EV 3. OR... Simply use the difference function if your meter has one. Make your main reading, switch to difference mode, and as you hold again you metering button and walk around measuring it will show you the difference in F stops from your first reading. For details consult your meter manual. On analog meters with footcandles scale, the numbers are one stop appart with 1/3 or 1/2 stop division inbetween. You mentaly mark your FC (or EV) or set your memo pointer (if any) at your main area and use it as reference to measure your darker area, to see when your needle comes at 2 stop under.... Here an Sekonic Studio Master analog scale: Say your needle shows 40 fc. At 50 ASA film with 24fps and 180 shutter aperture is around f/1.2 Set your memo pointer at 40fc (the red triangular thing, here at ~5fc). Go to you area where you want 2 stops under and adjust lights till your needle comes at 10fc. Thats it. Hope this helps. Regards Igor PS: BTW, the sample meter scale is a selfmade animated GIF that i use as signature at another forum.... :) Too sleepy to find a picture with a still needle....

  17. While we are at the topic... Not wanting to open a new thread. I am wondering about power consuption. The 1.5V AA powered Minolta V says 30 Hours Continuous operation for ambient light/incident light measurement. For the Kenko equivalent (KFM 1100, same AA battery) 50 Hours. I have an eye also for a Sekonic L-358 using CR123 battery and exept for extended battery life ( cause lithium battery), i does not quote any hours or such. Just trying to balance between battery life, availability and cost... Any thoughts? Regards Igor
