  1. Got some new B&W HVX + G35 footage in there. Pretty pleased with how the HVX footage came out. I really wanna try the Canon HDSDI out to disk tho. Regardless, heres the reel I've been working on for a while. There is some 35mm, S16mm, DVX, and Varicam + Pro35 w/ Cooke S4's. Got a great new project at the end of the month with 35mm that I'm going to post after telecine. Its going to be my 1st bleach bypass so I'm stoked to see the results. If anyone has some bleach bypass tips throw em my way please. Also gonna try and test out 35mm telecine transfer to uncompressed HD 4:2:2 to disk on a music video to. Stoked to see those results. 2. I actually really prefer the Cooke S4's. I got a short film coming up with them and I think the Cookes low contrast warmer feel will give me a nice look with a bleach bypass. And I used them on a feature a few months back. The only issue i found with them is that they love to flare... but i like flares so it worked out.
  3. I have a small short coming up and I was wondering what some people thought about what the ideal camera or cameras for hand held sync sound work are? I'm looking for something light weight, with a adjustable shutter, and a adjustable frame rate.
  4. At least test it... it is a wonderful light. It "delivers 13,750 footcandles at 100 feet" and i remember reading like 24 footcandles at a mile or somthing like that.
  5. I used to repair them at William F. Whites here in vancouver. They can be very dangerous if you damage or aim the rig wrong. The beam is very hard and just as hard to mimic because its so spotty and narrow with an amazing output. They have a ballest, a warm up time, and a motorized focus on the head. When striking your 2k lamp you will want to aim it downward 40ยบ (or it may hot strike) at the floor until it is fully powered (we ran it for 10-15min to warm up)... and watch what you aim it at because it can start a fire... a lot of people don't even use them direct but use a mirror board to bounce the beam off so it doesn't cause fires or burn an actor. You probably wont need that with only a 2k but it may be a good idea to use a mirror rather then sending it what up in the air. Make sure the rental place knows how many hours the lamp has been used and just be careful when setting it up... the bulbs have a high amount of atmospheric pressure and if cracked it will explode. I mean, when changing the bulbs I had to wear a led vest and a mask. Besides that the light is great! Just tell your lamp ops what I told you and put the fear of death into them and nothing will go wrong.
  6. I heard this system works well. A cinematographer friend of mine just got one... and Im about to buy this monitor for my mac. It claims to be 14bit.
  7. You need to transfer to a format with low compression. MiniDV is like 5:1, Dvd is MPEG-2 (not sure compression ratio). Digibeta is your best bet if you wanna go to tape. It has a 2:1 compression at 4:2:2. Capture that off a Digibeta deck using its SD-SDI output into a capture card that has SD-SDI in. (Kona Or BlackMagic) Then capture your digibeta tape uncompressed to your cpu and do what ya want. For the best quality you could capture right off the telecine mechine SD-SDI uncompressed into your computer... but you would need a Hard drive system that could store this massive amount of info and stream it... probably need a RAID tower. Digibeta is your best bet... its important that you capture it uncompressed tho. Dont go doing a digibeta transfer and then captureing DVCPRO(25) NTSC.
  8. I would imagine you could use a different codec but it probably wont look as good at uncompressed 10-bit. DVCPRO 50?
  9. I did a $350k feature 2 months back and I got them too $1000 a week. Like David says, quote high but expect to settle for less.
  10. Looks really good man. I love it how your documenting the production so well.
  11. Everything. Just booming over here. Not as much as last year... but still good.
  12. Thats exactly what I was working when I was getting started. Making our own lighting packages out of nothing for our projects was a very good learning experience.
  13. Its really good man. Solid work the whole way threw.
  14. Its really busy right now. Really high demand for AC's and DP's.
  15. Damn. Finally I can see that video in a proper rez rather then youtube. That looks to me like a 16mm neg color corrected to that look. Probably threw davinci. R.I.P HAWK.
  16. That video was hdv, with the sony z1u, color correction was done with apple's shake.
  17. Tony Kaye beautify shot and Directed American History X.
  18. 15 eh. Keep up the good work kid. Keep shootin.
  19. Sounds like a stock I would really like. Thanks guys. I'll let ya know how it goes.
  20. Aye. Pick up a small little Arri S or somthing and make sure it has a sync motor. Which you could probably get for a lot less then a HVX. But if you guy are really just starting out and trying to learn about story telling and what not, DVX100 might be best.
