Leicina Special time exposure question.
Nicholas Kovats replied to Nicholas Kovats's topic in Super-8
Thanks, Bill! It was a lot of fun to shoot! -
Brian, I suspect your double perf white leader is too thick for your gate. Do you have access to regular 2 perf acetate film stock (2R-3000) for testing purposes?

And to properly conclude this thread years later. Here is a link to my experimental Leicina Super 8 film called "Bike Light", i.e. https://vimeo.com/38891161 -
Possible to change Arri SR gate to 1.2:1?
Nicholas Kovats replied to Francisco Martins's topic in ARRI
Or you could just shoot UltraPan8 2.8 or 3.1 native spherical formats. Full 16mm width with 1/2 pulldown (8mm frame height). The aspect ratio(s) are 2.8 and 3.1 respectively. The 3.1 variation is wider than Super 16 at 13mm. Here is an example of UP8 2.8 -> and UP8 3.1 -> -
That appears to be a stunner of an optical bench. Pant, pant.

Dom! Your beautifully documented work is a treasure! Thank you. Nicholas

Patrick Tarrant from London South Bank University in the UK has released a wonderful UltraPan8 sketch involving superimposition and one of my favorite modes of transportation. Bicycles! https://vimeo.com/58823776 *password: UP8SUPER *Upper case "I ran the UP8 stock through twice and hand processed at home. Scan performed by Henk Tyberghein at MediaSwitch, Watermolenstraat 10, 9090, Melle, Belgium, mediaswitch.be. Scan cost £70 for 2 x 100ft roles." Note that MediaSwitch use the sprocketless scanner Müller HM73. Patrick also had Edward Nowill reporforate single perf 16mm E100D color reversal film into 2 perf Regular 8 stock for his Bolex UP8 2.8 camera. Patrick can be reached at tarrantp@lsbu.ac.uk.

Thanks, Freya! As a Canadian I wasn't even aware of Cinevic's existence as per the the original poster's location! Very cool in terms of his potential access to some sync sound 16mm cameras. You cannot beat a daily member rental rate of $0 regarding the NPR cameras. Cheap enough to get his feet wet, i.e. http://www.cinevic.ca/equipment -
Argenti Pan-X Super 8
Nicholas Kovats replied to David Cunningham's topic in Film Stocks & Processing
David, Contact Niagara Custom Labs here in Toronto as they will pretty almost process anything, i.e. http://www.niagaracustomlab.com/. LIFT in Toronto now sells this stock locally here in Toronto also, i.e. http://lift.ca/equipment/store/adox-pan-x-super-8mm-film-50-asa-100d80t -

Ethan, I could not resist posting considering your statements regarding Tarkovsky and the classic film textures of the 1970's. And your right. He slowed down time and exquisitely observed quiet reflective moments. Very heavy massive Russian Konvas cameras and Lomo lenses were used. It took graceful muscle to move this heavy equipment and create his classic tracking shots. That being said and without getting into too much detail...here is a short film I shot with a modified Bolex camera to potentially assist you with your available options. Stock was reversal re: Ektachrome 100D color and Plus-X b/w. I have recently grown impatient with reversal stocks and aim to shoot more color negative film with it's increased latitude. For a less compressed contrasty look and a more delicate muted color. Anyways here is the film, i.e -

My apologies, Kip. Indeed you did give credit. That piece still sends shivers down my spine.
-
Lets try that again and hopefully this forum will not compress the typography, i.e. "Nice, simple and effective, Kip. Thanks for shooting on film. However you should give credit where it is due. This is a fine example of the great Russian composer Eduard Artemyev's work on Andrei Tarkovsky's "Stalker". I am known to enter a dream state when I hear this ambient piece as Andrei pans through derelict Soviet industrial sites not knowing that half his my crew will die of cancer from this shoot. Including the Master.

Read this and weep. Apparently they had designed a variable gate switchable between Standard 16 and Super 16, i.e http://eclair16.com/eclair-ex16panoram/. Aaton subsequently bought the technology and patents. IMHO, the Aaton camera is a very worthy successor to the Eclair line.
