  1. Hi Mattew! ive been shooting in super 8 since i was 8, im 29 right now so i have some experience. if you have plans to buy a super 8 camera dont buy a chinon. the lens is not bad, but not good enough for sharp image. most of chinon models only run at 18fps and single frame. chinon are good cameras for family trips, his autofocus system, the models that have it, is amazing and work spectacular! if you want a pro camera search for canon 814/1014, beaulieu 2008/4008 even russian quartz is better than chinon. this are some of my personal cameras and run like a ferrari bye!! 2. its true! i know. pro 8 is one of the most expensive places to buy film. they have good packs, stock-proces-telecine but theyre expensive too try bhphotovideo.com http://www.8mmfilmstock.com/ if looking for b&W black and white film fcatory in canada bye! Treegan
  3. Hi!! I also recomend to read this book http://www.amazon.com/Writing-Directing-Pr...TF8&s=books bye! Treegan
  4. Hi! if youre looking for S8 stock i recomend to ask in widescreen centre. http://www.widescreen-centre.co.uk/cine.php bye! Treegan
  5. Hi!! offline is way of work in less quality, not uncompressed 1.1. the film editors work this way cose its possible to digitize more footage in less hard drive space and the work station had a better perfomance workin offline. for example 1 hour of footage mini dv compression is aprox 17Gb, 1 hour uncompressed footage is aprox 100Gb thats why in offline, as i said in past post, mini dv is not recomended for projects that will have a lot of post, graphics and color correction, cose the image sampling is not enough to do that. my advice... follow the Eugene recomedations, jsut remember that if youre going to work in mac ask for .MOV not .AVI. and if you want high quality in SD or HD ask for image sequence 24 fps directly from telecine to flame, inferno or the workstation the telecine company have... and try to avoid firewire. bye! 7. hi! here i go, im pasting from another site that explains well. "Color Sampling: 4:1:1 This number is a ratio of how often the luminance is sampled compared to how often the color is sampled. Virtually all digital formats sample the luminance at 13.5 MHz. This is noted as the "4" in the above number. A format that has a 4:4:4 color sampling samples the color at the same rate as the luminance, yet it is rarely used except for high resolution RGB graphics. 4:2:2 sampling is used by most high-end tape formats and provides excellent color quality. DV25 uses 4:1:1, which samples the color once for every four luminance samples. Visually, this still yields excellent color (better than most analog formats). The only time when 4:1:1 sampling may be a hindrance is when making graphics and special effects that require very sharp colors (for example, it is more difficult to use DV for chroma keying)." 4.1.1 is offline in terms that you cant have enough quiality if youre planning to have fx, software color correction, chromakey, etc. hope it helps! 8. Hi!! here is Treegan, i work as a postproducer here in Mexico DF. i work in some ads in wich coptervision, stabilization heads and stuff like that were used. all this kind of grips or stuff like that are good but i walys had to use shake smooth cam or flmae stabilization sparkles at the end. Bye!! Treegan
  9. HI! just remember that minidv or dvcam is offline quality. i do not recomend if youre thinking a broadcsat quality. try, if you can, digi beta. bye! Treegan
  10. you mean you wanna see some footage shooted at 48fps? bye! Treegan
  11. Hi! is simple, k11 and k12 are prior to 1977. k14 is from 1977 to 1997 (aprox) if not have the date you can only identify them after processing. k14 are still color processed in rocky mountain, k11 and 12 are b&w processed. if youre gonna process at home i recomend the tmax developer. bye!! 12. Hi! the fx of shutterless camera you can see in Bullet in a Bible, the live dvd of green day. it see really good, in this case the editor use this camera footage as transitions or cut aways. as an experimental filmmaker i never try to do something like youre asking in camera. as a postproducer, the job i always do, i told you that obtaining this fx in post is possible, you will need some hours to try the best look and some renders. in my point of view, the in camera fx always looke better. bye! 13. Hi! buying directly from kodak is the best idea. you can try bhphotovideo.com too. sometimes in ebay you can find good auctions. for processing and telecine spectra and yale are both really good. but if your planning to shoot b&w, in my personal opinion, black and white film factory from canada is the best in processing. bye!!
  14. Hi! i dont know if film rescue is still processing i see it posted in a super 8 blog. rocky mountain is working and yes the process the old stocks as black and white, but the results are amazing. a little expensive but works reaaly good. bye! PS: if you try D19 handle with care!!
  15. Hi! im just gonna tell my experience with my K3 trying to obtain the effect you want. when i wanna have footage with big amount of motion blur i shoot at 3-6 fps, F 1.9, and i adjust the exposure using ND filters. the telecine at 18fps, not all telecines could do that so ask youre telecine operator before, and then in FCP slow down speed to 33%. hope it helps! bye!!
  16. Hi!! Before buying books look for handbook of after effects and shake, both books have chapters about what youre asking for. bye!!
  17. Hi!! try Film Rescue Box 44 Fortuna, North Dakota, 58844 phone: 800-329-8988 and http://www.rockymountainfilm.com/ i send some Kodachrome II and ektachrome 160 to rocky mountain last year with good results. mail the labs before sending the rolls. best wishes!! Treegan
  18. Hi! my advice as a film editor, since 1997, is to finish your cut before going to after effects. and remember this... is too hard to finish a cut, generally you leave it cose you like it, but if u want u can be cutting the same clip for years. bye! Treegan
  19. if you download a full version from limewire, aprox 600Mb, it have the manual. if not buy a book with tutorials from amazon.com. bye! andres
  20. hi! my advice as an experimental filmmaker is to shoot a short before you make youre film. so you can practice and put all in order. or better, shoot the trailer of your film, sometimes i useaful to find founds. bye! Treegan
  21. Hi Dennis!! i have a k3 and generally play with it like i think you do. just take care not to force the spring. my personal advice, if you have it fixed in a tripod, go on!! shoot the time you need, the important thing here is to shoot, make films and express what you want. best wishes!! Treegan
  22. the light meter of the k3 was made for cine cameras, i always use the internal light meter of my k3 and work really good, never have problems with exposure. it depends on the state of the camera, i buy my own from olex and works great. bye! Treegan
